    Default Preventing Stretch Marks!

    Hi,
I am 2 months pregnant with my first baby & I am scared of getting bad stretch marks. I know you all have to keep your bodies looking as great as possible, so for those of you who have had kids what did you do to prevent getting stretch marks? I know everyone says use coco butter, does it really work? I was also considering trying that St. Ives Collegean Elastian lotion, because the name seems like it would make skin more soft & able to stretch more easily, but I could be wrong. What do you ladies suggest? I want to find a good product while I still have the chance.

When you're pregnant, you're skin is stretching. DO NOT scratch your skin. When you scratch, you are tearing the skin. Cocoa butter is a good alternative. Either cocoa, or shea butter.

You have to keep your skin moisturized, religiously.Moisturize at least twice a day for the duration of the pregnancy and even after,so your skin's elastic memory will come back.

If you get them you can always go for a consultation at the Epoine center for the Coolbeam laser. Heres the link. Apparently they are very good.

I think it is hard to judge unless you've tried something with one pregancy, and went without the next. I used Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula for Stretch Marks during my pregnancy, and mine aren't that bad. I only used it on my tummy though - and they ended up being the worst on my thighs and sides (so be sure to cover those areas, and your boobs). Given that, my conclusion would be that it helped. It also helps to try to control your weight gain (which can be hard!! I gained 50 frickin pounds!), and to not stress about it too much. Unfortunately, hormones during pregnancy make your skin less elastic, so you are more likely to get stretch marks whatever you do, so try not to have unrealistic expectations. Just do what you can and be happy for those blacklights! Good luck, and congrats on the pregnancy!

topical lotions etc. aren't the best way. they help.....but the real kep is to make sure the nutrition is there from the inside out. salmon, almonds, avacado, fruits and veggies, tons of water etc. ( obviously i am a fan of tons of protien for the tone, metabolism, etc., but we r talking about skin right now)

    Exactly!!! I totally agree!!

Now, it does have to be said, that in the end, it's all about genetics. If you are genetically predisposed to stretch marks, you'll get them no matter what you do. I did what trish says and I got stretch marks (but I was 3 weeks late and my belly was HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE). I got the stretch marks the last week of my pregnancy. Up to that point, I had no stretch marks on any part of my body...and I credit that to my nutrition and water fiending.

Just keep yourself healthy. Exercise often, eat healthy, drink water and leave the rest up to nature.
