Hiya-
Yeah, I met one of the prospective buyers when I was there, and I believe Oscar even mentioned that he wouldn't be in it for too long. Too bad, he's a good owner/manager.

He turned down £7m I heard from DeJaVu to turn it into the London Hustler 18 months or so ago. Seems too expensive to me.
Tyke
I don't think so- ownership of a heritage building and land in SoHo, plus a business that guarantees a bare minimum of 4000 pounds income a night...I'd buy it! If I had the time and inclination, that is.
Gotta hand it to him with the timing, lol.

He only has a lease, the freehold belongs to Paul Raymond.
Tyke
Im going to an audition there next week so how is it?
Really? How long is the lease?
It's stressful and can be difficult, but good money most of the time. Be patient, end of the night can bring you most fo your income.

It was 25 years from 1994 so there are 12 or 13 years left.

If our Swedish friend wants to work in London I'd still say Browns was the best place. It's not easy to get taken on but they have a lot less girls and jug collections so it's much less stessful than say the Windmill.
Tyke
Well what do you mean by "stressful"?

At somewhere like the Windmill you will have 70 or 80 girls and normally maybe 30 customers so the level of hustle and competition betwen dancers is high. At Browns there are 6 to 12 girls per shift and sometimes 200 customers, the pressure on the customers is less and the girls don't all hate each other.
Tyke
Well speaking of London, Im auditioning for stringfellows next week too. So anything uoi can tell me about that place or? The website looks nice...but that means about jack squat

Stringfellow's is the top London club but still in my view has too many girls on , charges too high a house fee etc. It's well organised and gets more celebs than any other LOndon club also PS has clubs in Paris and Dublin with New York coming so you may get the chance to travel. The girls are all pretty good looking at Stringfellow's but not as consistently good as Browns.
Tyke
I am used to some pretty fierce competition.... but is there money to be made there? Is there anything I should know for the Stringfellows audition? I have an american accent, but im Swedish do you think thats a turnoff at all...
If you were to look at the top earning girls in London, where are they making their money?

You make most of your money at Stringfellow's via time and company. I never worked anywhere else in London but I'm betting that at Brown's you make most of your money selling dances and passing the jug.
My American accent wasn't a problem at work, in fact many guys liked it.
Another thing about Stringfellow's - the MOST money made there is in the vip section (was only a roped-off corner in the lower level when I was there). The staff are very partial to their favorites, and always put them in the vip. New girls don't really get into vip, unless something has drastically changed. I still made good money though; plenty of gentlemen willing to pay for the company of a pretty girl - especially in the restaurant![]()

I am told the girls at Browns make £200 to £500 a shift { normally 3 to 4 hours} about half comes from the jug collection { it's £1 minimum and the place is often very busy}. House fee is £20 to£65 there is no commission on dances. They do 4 or 5 shifts a week so I'd guess that they clear about £1,500 to£2k a week. I'd bet that the best girls at Stringfellow make more in good weeks but I'd also bet that the average net earnings of the 100 girls a night is not as good.
Tyke
Tyke, why do you push Browns so hard? Like, here, and on other websites, all the time?
I emailed them last year (and I've told you this already), and they said they do not take girls on short term, ie. you have to live in London. There is a 2-4 week lag between your audition and your start date. This is an important point; you have to ask girls how long they're staying before you just shove Browns at them nonstop!
I've never even visited a SC in London besides the Windmill, so I can't compare...I know the payouts are higher elsewhere, but then the income might be better too.
And as for the American accent thing, B, I don't know when you were last there, but I was there in 2002 and then this past xmas- in 2002 I had no problems with my accent, but as I mentioned elsewhere, this past xmas I got railed on for having an 'American' accent. They are not in love with the States over there right now...however, I don't think it will affect your money if you don't get annoyed by the comments.

It's just that all the other central London places have much higher house fees, less customers, and many times more girls. Most girls visiting London will tend to go for Spearmint or somewhere but Browns is a much better option IMHO. The White Horse down the road is even better but you will need to work at other places as you won't get enough shifts.
It is difficult to get a job at but worth it if you can manage it.
Tyke
I hear exciting things about the Windmill lately. See they are having a big partay in July! Is that new management or something?

Oscar has put the club on the market openly { he nearly sold it to DeJaVu a couple of years ago}.
Tyke
so what are all the adverts in national press??

What adverts, I'd not seen any, if it says something interesting I'll put it in my strip magazine gossip column.
Tyke
Boy, I remember going to a show at the Widmill when it was a stage show!! It was there and Raymond's Review Bar, anybody else remember??

Oscar get's fined !
Tyke
"Nobody could fault the commitment of the undercover agent sent to
confirm that Soho's most notorious nude show venue was playing songs
without a licence. A less thorough man might have been in and out in
minutes. But he was being paid by the music industry to do a job and
he dedicated two hours to it, emerging with a £960 bill for 'time
spent with hostesses.' The story of his visit to the Windmill night
club was told at the High Court in London. Counsel for Phonographic
Performance Ltd, which had sent the inspector, said: 'He was
persuaded in the circumstances of conversation with two large
gentlemen that paying the bill would be in his best interests.'
However, PPL, which monitors the playing of recorded music in clubs,
shops, pubs and restaurants on behalf of the music industry, got its
revenge on the Windmill and its owner, Oscar Owide. Mr Justice David
Richards banned him from playing music at any of the venues he runs
until he brings his licences up to date. He also ordered him to pay
costs of £2,488. If Mr Owide fails to obey the order he could be
held to be in contempt of court and be fined up to £10,000 and
jailed for up to two years. Mr Owide, a former East End hairdresser
and an ex-convict who was once described as 'Britain's biggest
pimp', has run hostess bars in Soho for over 30 years." (The Times)

Tyke 'pushes' Browns because it's an old fashioned strip pub rather than a club and so operates a lot more fairly than most of the clubs who have a "pile em high and charge em lots" ethos. With the proliferation of clubs in the UK the quality has often been sacrificed to quantity by owners who just see the business as an easy source of cash and have little concern about the girls who work for them as long as they pay the extortionate and often unfair fees and fines they charge.
P.S. 'Ello Tyke! Long time no 'see'![]()
