Default The power of the Dark Crystal

Anyone remember the flick from 1982 called "the Dark Crystal?" A puppet movie about two elf-like creatures on a quest. They are making a seguel to it. Should be out in 2007. Here's a pic from it. It's Kira' from the first movie, 500 years older and looking rather stately.

The plot of the new one is "hundreds of years after the events of the first movie when the world has once again fallen into darkness, Power of the Dark Crystal follows the adventures of a mysterious girl made of fire who, together with a Gelfling outcast, steals a shard of the legendary Crystal in an attempt to reignite the dying sun that exists at the center of the planet."

I always kinda dug that flick.

I loved that movie...I have it. I can't wait until Makayla is old enough to watch it. Of course, I remember when it came out, I was 8 years old...and even seeing it then kinda scared me.

I LOVE Dark Crystal. We started Delia on all those movies early. Her fave non-Disney movies are Labyrinth and Dark Crystal. Now we have to watch it again today.

My wife loves it, I got her the DVD a few years back. Crystal Method has a song with samples from the movie.

I still like Dark Crystal. Best Buy actually has a dvd double pack of DC and Labyrinth together, for under 20 bucks. I'll be interested to see what they do with it. My older 2 kids like DC, but the twins (4 1/2) wanted to watch it one day and the Skeksis (Sp?) scared them. On another note, my son's sideburns grow faster then the rest of his hair, and they grow into little points below his ears if you let them, and we have dubbed them his "gelflings". Yup yup. My personal favorite things were always the Striders...the big things they rode that walked on their weird folded wing type things. Man...I havent seen that in forever, now I feel like watching it. We all just watched Neverending Story yesterday, since it was a snow day.

Ah... it's part of quirky retro collection I'm trying to start.

I've Ghostbusters I and II, Gremlins (need to buy Gremlins II), Willow. Still to buy is Gremlins II, Dark Crystal, Labryth, Dirty Dancing, Ewoks: Caravan of Courage, Neverending Story (the original movie only the others suck!), Kirate Kid (all of them) amongst others.

    Yep - I remember it.

I also remember the muppets from it appearing on a Far Scape episode - or at least they looked pretty simular!!!!

Make sure to include "Time Bandits", "Raising Arizona", and "The Princess Bride". Then "The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai Across The Eighth Dimension".

That oughta be enough quirks to keep you going for awhile.

okay...we watched it again today. It still holds up, and it's still creepy in several parts.

Nautilus: I still have all the oldsk00l Fraggle Rock episodes on VHS. My favorite old cat was named Doozer. And the trash/compost heap behind my old house was named...dammit. Was it Marjorie? Something like that.

According to and , they got all the voice talent back, but then it IS imdb... Soooooooooooooooo....

I kinda doubt some of that because of what happened at the end of the first one. Unless the Urskeks somehow split into Mystics and Skeksis again (Isn't that a bitch, i remember the NAME of the combined Skeksis/Mystic race, that they become at the end, and i don't think it's mentioned in the movie), i don't see how the Chamberlain or the General could come back.

It's a major bummer that Jim Henson is dead, but (who did all the designs for the original) is involved from what i read.

    Here's something on it, BTW.

That film scared me so much, it's so dark ): Labyrinth with David Bowie, made by the same people, was much more entertaining
