    Default Ovarian Cysts, anyone?

The last 3 or 4 days I have been exeriencing pain on one side. I went to the emergency room and was told I have a large cyst on my right ovary. The doc said that after my next period he would do another ultra sound and if it has not gone away or at least shrunk, he will have to surgically remove the cyst from my ovary.
I have some moderate pain that comes and goes. He gave me some Vicodin for the pain in the meantime, but I am very worried. I hate having this alien "thing" on my body pushing at my ovary and causing pain. Unless I have to, I do not prefer to be operated on for a myriad of reasons, but mostly because I scar horribly and I am afraid of operations in general.
Anyone ever had ovarian cysts? Did you choose to operate or did it pass? How was the scarring/healing time? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I get ovarian cysts. I went to the emergency room for them once because the pain got so bad. Most of the time they drain themselves and just go away. I was in such bad pain that one time because the cyst popped, which can be very painful. But they do usually take care of themselves by either draining or popping.

I have endometriosis so I have had plenty. Back in 2001 when I was working in the hospital I started having severe cramping on the right side of pelvis. It hurt to stand up straight, to move, to do anything. I had an ultrasound and they found a cyst the size of a lemon on my right ovary. They said to give it a few days to go away but it just got worse. I had emergency surgery that weekend and it had increased in size to about the size of a grapefruit. They couldn't get it out through laproscoptic surgery so I had to be cut open. Keep going to your doc and get it checked if the pain doesn't go away. I am not saying or situation will be like mine nor am I trying to scare you but you need stay on top of it. Good Luck.

I get cysts on my ovaries and fallopian tubes. They are very painful but usually subsist on their own. I have had one laproscopic procedure to remove one that was pinching and blocking my right fallopian tube. The operation was a breeze. I was in at 7am and home by noon. Honestly, I was fine by the next day but still took several days off from work. BTW, I got pregnant the next month (which I'd been trying for years).

If you have good insurance and it is a chronic problem I would suggest talking to your doc about a lap procedure. The incision is through the navel so there is no tell-tale signs left behind. They can look for endometriosis, multiple cysts (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), and other complications.

Kaiyla..... there are many types of ovarian cysts. Some are more urgent to be removed than others. Some also grow quicker than others and could cause a torsion of the tubes and be extremely painful and problematic. You should probably go see a second physician to get another opinion and explore your options. Good luck.

I went in for surgery to look for cysts that I had known about for years. Was supposedf to have the one incision Laparscopic. But it turned out that I had a fibroid and they had to make two more cuts.

I would say to keep an eye on them. If you take birth control that is supposed to help them shrink.

I feel your pain, girl.. I went in to the ER last year with HORRID side pains, and the doc said it was either my appendix or a cyst on my ovary. Well, it wound up being my appendix (which was removed later that day) but he also said I have cysts and will someday have to go thru that pain again is one bursts or something. Ugh.. not looking forward to that. Good luck girl, and get better soon!!

    Yes, those are ungodly!

Around Christmas this past year, I woke up @ about 5am in agonizing pain on my left side. I wanted to get out of bed to go the ER but couldn't. I kept passing out. When I finally got out of bed, moaning to wake up my mom, I passed out in the hallway! It feels like someone is stabbing you and digging the knife aruond. Mine burst.

I hope you feel better and don't need surgery!!

I feel your pain. I also suffer from ovarian cysts. Most of the time I am fine but it can be quite painful when they rupture. The worst part is that they make me bleed. I do not know when they are going to occur and needless to say, unexpected bleeding is never a good thing.

I get them almost monthly at least i did before i had my baby. I would have to take Vicodin 750mg every 4hrs for the first 2 days of my period because they would pop/drain and i would burnup with fever, throwup, i'd be curledup on the floor crying in pain (this coming from a person that had 100% drug free delivery without crying) Its something that if you continue to get them you get used to them after a while and you learn what to do real quick to help the discomfort. Try crampbark tea or menstrucare pills both are all natural and worked well for me for a while. Good luck

I had really bad cysts when I was on Depo-Provera. The doc recommended that I get onto the pill which has less effects overall on your body. Check with your doc to make sure that your BC method isn't part of the problem.

Sorry to hear about your condition. When my dr. told me that it was a cyst causing my cramps he put me on birth control pills for a few months. Luckily it went away and hasn't caused anymore problems. Hope all goes well for ya. And remember don't strain on yourself. Get well soon...

Yep, I get them too. Had my first one burst when I was 15 and I had to have it removed because I had quite a bit of internal bleeding, that's unusual though, they usually go away by themselves. The Doc will give you something to ease the discomfort in the mean time till it settles down. I ended up with an apendix type scar but now they do endoscopic surgery where they make two small incisions, one just under the "hairline" and one in the navel so it's not noticeable once they heal. I doubt it will come to that, my case was pretty extreme and I haven't had a bad enough one since to need surgery again.

Yeah I'm still waiting this out. I have another ultra-sound on the 13th of March, until then the doc has told me no sex and no exercising. The no sex alone is going to suck harcore, but it's the no exercising that's really messing up my game as I NEED to lose a few pounds that have crept up on me and interfered with dancing.
Still, all I'm truly hoping for is that this thing shrinks. If not, doc said we need to operate and I sooooo want to avoid that. I don't even want to think about all the different ways that'll screw up my work situation. Blech..
