It's more based on cities I think. Here in Wisconsin, the city I work in requires one, but the club 3 hours away that I worked in over the summer does not require one, and the club 10 minutes outside of the town I work in doesn't require one. So it may not be the whole state that requires you to get a license, but it is up to the individual city.
Take the road less traveled- just make sure you have a map.
Well isnt there like a comprehensive list somewhere? Cuz there really should be...we could make one...

You could start your own list from this:
First off licensing is a CITY issue, NOT a state one. Some cities in a state may require a license while others in the same state do not.
CITIES REQUIRING LICENSING:
Phoenix AZ
Mesa/Apache Junction AZ
Tempe AZ
Chandler AZ
Houston TX
Sioux City IA
Atlanta GA
Las Vegas NV
Reno NV
Salt Lake City, UT
Seattle, WA
Detroit MI
---------------------------------------------------
These cities/states DO NOT
Tucson AZ
Yuma AZ
Austin, El Paso, Dallas.FT.Worth TX
Montana
South Dakota
Fargo, ND
Minnesota
DesMoines IA and the rest of IA besides Sioux City
Oklahoma City and Tulsa OK
Albuquerque and Santa Fe NM
Florida
Lawrence KS
Colorado
Memphis TN
Anchorage AK
Indianapolis IN
Ft Wayne,IN
San Francisco CA
Sacramento, CA
Fresno, CA
Los Angeles, CA (all suburbs but parts of Orange County)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That is a jump start and it is also sbject to change. Maybe some other girls can add to the list.

West palm beach your suposed to have a license.

tempe doesnt!???!
at least christie s...my friend just got hired there...maybe they have new rules now?

What about the Provances in Canada.. Does anyone know witch ones You need to have a liceness to dance in ?

In toronto you do and in Windsor used to but they changed it, maybe other places but I don't know.
Toronto requires a license, as well as Vaughn.
Brampton does not, neither does Mississauga or Peterborough.
New Brunswick does not and last I heard neither does Newfoundland.
I believe you do in Montreal(I could be wrong)

No need for a license in Montreal.
Okay so I was wrong
I thought someone told me you did. I wouldnt know, never been there to dance. Thanks![]()

Nope You don't need one in Newfounland ..Thats where I live....![]()

It should also be pointed out that there could be a difference between two clubs which appear on the strip club review board to be in the same city, but technically one may be located on land inside city limits, and the other outside city limits. This can translate into whether you need a license or not. Then you have situations like Las Vegas where you could possibly need multiple licenses to work at some clubs.
A list would be a good idea theorhetically, but the situation in regards to licenses is ever changing as more cities decide to add this requirement, so it would be next to useless as a resource. It would simply be better to call a club you're thinking of working at and ask if a license is needed there, and the specifics about how to obtain one.
Former SCJ now in rehab.

^^ agree with Doc that local city/county ordinances regarding exotic dancer's licenses is a 'moving target', with new requirements springing up all the time. From a political standpoint, enacting dancer's license laws are a double win situation for local politicians, since they pander to the bible-thumpers with the promise of keeping girls who have previously been charged with prostitution, lewd conduct, theft, drugs etc. from working in their city PLUS providing a new source of city revenue in the form of license fees. I would also add that the dancer's licensing background check will also investigate legal work status i.e. US citizenship, non-citizens having a US work visa specific to dancing etc.
The references to multiple license requirements refers to some states and cities having separate requirements that all businesses in the jurisdiction obtain a business license. This requirement is not specific to exotic dancers, and also potentially encompasses local branches of multinational corporations right down to hot-dog vendors. The purported reasoning behind a business license requirement is also a double win scenario for politicians. First, they collect license fees. Second, state and local tax dept's are provided with a ready list of potential tax returns to cross-check, on the assumption that anybody willing to pay a business license fee is probably intending to earn money working at that business.
For the record - You don't need a license to work in any of the clubs in New Zealand or Australia. Some of the bigger clubs in Australia do want to see a work permit/visa though, however that seems to be overlooked on occasion too if you are just passing through.

Add Longmont, Colorado and San diego, Calif. to the list of cities requiring licensing. In Boulder, Colorado you do not need a license.
You do not need a License to dance in Illinois.

Philadelphia PA requires a license

Lake Charles requires a bar card for waitresses and dancers. It's similar to a Texas alcohol and beverage certification in order to sell alcohol. Why do dancers need it, I don't know. And I'm not sure if it's needed in every club in Lake Charles. A license is only needed in a few clubs in Houston, and one of them is St James. But all the clubs do background checks in Houston and background checks in Dallas.
NYC there's no license needed. None needed in Myrtle Beach, Austin, San Antonio, Palm Springs, Oklahoma City.

San Jose, CA does not require a license. Some don't require you to present a SSN card.

Maryland and DC don't require licenses.
