theres definatly a price difference here.

also, IS IT POSIBLE TO CUT THIS CLIPS OFF AND USE THESE FOR FUSION OR SEW - INS? YOU KNOW? RATHER THEN TO BUY A NEW SET? IF I LIKE THEM?

I'V NEVER HAD EXTENTIONS BEFORE. JUST LOOKING FOR A GOOD, BUT IN-EXPENSIVE ROUT, IF POSIBLE.

    Hi CS,

Well it really just depends on what you want to have. Do you want to go with the fusion, sew in or clip on? When it comes to extensions, I have found that the cheapest way you go is just that---cheap. Now if you just want to have something temporary for work then I would suppose that the clip-ons would work for you. But if you want to go with something more permanent (meaning 3-6 months) then you should go to a professional extensionist and consult with them about what technique and hair would be best suited for your expectations.

I agree. I went the cheap route for several years, and had to deal with hair that matted easily and (one time...this is so embarassing) I bought synthetic hair by accident and used a curling iron on it. It shriveled up like shrink wrap. For all the money I wasted on cheap methods, I should have just gone with the more professional route the first time.

Just my two cents. If you don't know if you like the look of long hair, try the clip in ones first. If you find yourself wearing them all the time, I suggest you look for a stylist that is trained in the fusion method (either Cinderella Hair or Great Lengths) or the loc method (Euroloc)

Also, I found the sew in method difficult to work with on my caucasion hair. It looks fantastic on the courser African hair, but the cornrow ended up making a "rat's nest" on the back of my head in three weeks as the hair grew out. We ended up having to cut it out.

Also, keep in mind you can't wear your hair in an updo, or even just a ponytail. The cornrow and the the extension hair is meant for it to fall downward. When you fold the extension hair up for a ponytail it literally "folds" over onto itself and makes a huge bump on the back of the head.

I just went through this. Had my friend bond the extentions in, went and had it blended and stuff. 2 days later I was in the shower pulling them out - hated it. They looked great I just hated the feeling of it. WISH I had just gotten the clip ons to see if Id even like it. I DO like it... just not permenant. Just ordered the clip ons so I can wear them when I want but not have to deal with the maintenance.

Please do the clip ons first before going through the time, trouble and $$ on weave, bond or fuse...

No, you cant just cut the hair and bond or sew it in. You need the entire weft....

Remi (the best) hair is only $100 a weft so if you DO like the clip ons and want to get perm just buy new hair - its not that expensive...

Im curious, what is it about Remi hair that makes it the best for weft/weaves?

I made my own clip in extensions. I spent about $60 on human hair wefts from ebay. That was for two sets in two different colors so I could overlap them to sew them toghter and make my extensions look thicker while making them blend with my two toned hair. I then purchased $12 in toupee clips from my local wig shop. I got lucky with the colors, they matched my hair really well so all I did was highlight a few of the wefts. Then I sewed the clips on my double wefts and voila, human clip extentions for under $100!

Remi is smooth silky real hair. Its not made from coarse asian hair like some 'real hair' extensions are. And the synthetic ones will melt with a curling or flat iron...

    Mia M ...

    I like your method.....

ok, i just got home from a local beauty shop and found about 6ft of remy hair about 14 inches long for 56.99 . i then spent 9.99 for about a dozen clips.

the remy is apsolutly beautiful, and powder soft.

ok the only problem i have now, is to sew these danged clips on. the man at the beauty shop says, that only people who want to throw thier money away will use glue on this precious remy hair. he said "remy should never be glued, thats just IMHO".

i have a glue gun and fabric glue, im so tempted to just use the glue. but i think i'll head the warning.

i'll sit by my fire place tonite and do the very thing Mia M did. *sigh*. i'll post updated picture L8R

p.s. the shop guy said he would sew them in for me, at an extra fee.

but i figures i'd save a few extra $ anddo it myself. i hope i dont have any regrets .

please please don't use fabric glue in your hair....you might end up having to cut the extensions out, leaving your real hair an absolute mess. all glues are NOT made the same. if the man at the shop offered to do it at a reasonable price, then consider taking him up on it (if he has good references and/or pics of his work) rather than doing it yourself. i know you want to save money, but if you try to do it yourself and fuck it up, then you'll not only waste the money you invested in materials, but also potentially damage your hair. if you're gonna go solo, then Mia's suggestion is really good...when you sew, the thread can be removed with a seam-ripper (a friend can do it for you, or you can do it yourself....admittedly, the first time i got extensions i removed them myself after only a couple of days cuz i hated them....they were sewn in, and i got a seam ripper and took them out). if you use god knows what type of glue, it's harder. some glue used for extensions has a special solvent that partially dissolves the stuff when they're ready to come out.

obviously, all of this is your choice, your money, your hair, your time, etc. but fabric glue...IMHO bad idea....who knows what it will do (might not even hold....the extensions have weight)...or it might hold too much. just be careful...wouldn't want you to regret your decisions, as you said. i've seen lots of bad extension jobs...many horror stories. the guy at the store might very well be good....he will charge extra, though, because he's providing a service (one that's usually time consuming and takes lots of practice). i'm sure he's not the only one in your area...if you want, take the hair around and compare prices and investigate the quality of work of various people.

good luck....i'm sure it will look beautiful once done...just proceed with caution, and don't be too impulsive

Don't skimp on extentions if your going to get them it will stuff up your hair and scalp. I've had a few different kinds including synthetic and ones I did myself. The best ones were the great lengths, the hair was good with a nice texture and wave and blended well with my own hair. The first lot cost me $1200 for a 3/4 head (I have a lot of thick hair) but I serviced them myself, my friend only pays around $300 for 1/2 a head but her hair is thinner. Shop around and get to know your product, hairdressers charge different rates for exactly the same thing.
Personally though I'd go for the clip on extension. Cheaper, less drama and your not going to spend hours sitting in a hairdressers chair, mine used to take about 9+ hours to do, looked great though! Personally I think extensions look best used sparingly to thicken up or fill out a style. I don't think they are the best choice for length more than a few inches longer, too hard to blend without going a long way up the scalp and using lots of hair.
