    Default "stripper skin" prevention

I'm 25, only been dancing two months. I'm already noticing my skin is starting to look rougher, probably due to many factores--sleep deprivation, not drinking enough water, etc. But I know the smoky environment of the strip club does most of the damage. I was wondering if anyone had a skin care system or product that they swear by to keep themselves looking fresh and young...?

You have to moisturize end exfoliate all the time ! invest in the best body cream with shea butter or anything that is repairing and for dameged skin!Try products by oprigins, sisley if you can afford it...Darphin or Shiseido!

I use plain old Vaseline Intensive Care lotion. But much more importantly you have to take care of yourself from the inside. Drink your water, eat your fruits and veggies, get good sleep!! These things will do more for your skin than just some superficial cream. Take care.

I guess this is a good time to introduce myself and reply to this thread at the same time, as this is my first post! I am a retired dancer and now own my own day spa. I am a licensed esthetician and would love to answer any questions regarding skin care or body care! I've been in the spa business for 11 years and now have my own skin care line so I'm full of information!

Our worst enemy in the clubs is the smoke. It prevents your skin from receiving the oxygen it needs. Of course we also like to be tan and that is another factor that will dry your skin. Exfoliation and moisture are very important and I believe the best ingredients to do this are glycolic acid, salicylic acid, shea butter, and rose and/or geranium oils. Salt scrubs and sugar scrubs followed by intense moisture are fantastic treatments if done correctly. Always ask about the ingredients being used. You don't want a lot of oil in your scrub because the oil will prevent the moisturizer from penetrating into the skin. A lot of day spas will use oil in their scrubs in order to give the illusion of moisture. The scrubs purpose should be to exfoliate, not to moisturize. You get your moisture from your moisturizer!

Enough cannot be said about diet, hydration, and exercise! It's good for you, inside and out!

    Any more questions? Ask away!

I agree with what everyones said. Drink at least half your weight in ounces every day. Eat foods high in antioxidents, like tomatoes. Exercise regularly, sweating is a great way to detox and get the blood and oxygen circulating in that skin. Take vitamins and supplements. Adding a womens multi and Tonalin CLA has done wonders for my skin, energy levels, and all over well-being. Last but not least, MOISTURIZE!!!

I also reccommend getting regular facials and backcials. If you can't currently afford spending $60+ for a treatment, consider making an appointment at a reputable cosmetology/esthetics school. My school charges $25 for a facial or backcial and I've always had a pleasant expierience.

What do you mean? I weight 110 -- does that mean I should drink at least 55 oz a day (no problem, that's less than 2 nalgenes, my normal water target)?

This might sound like a no brainer but you"d be surprised how many strippers don't do this: REMOVE YOUR CLOWN MAKEUP EVERY NIGHT BEFORE BED!

Drink lots and lots and lots and lots of water. Also in shower moisturisers like the one from olay with shea butter makes your skin amazingly soft. Remove makeup before bed and use night creams to keep your face soft and wrinkle free. Also you can get stuff for a home mud bath, does amazing things for your skin. As well as body mudd(lavander is great because it relaxes you as well). When you tan make sure to use tanning cream before getting in the bed.

Yes. That's the minimum recommendation of water intake per day.

The best products I have found for myself are from L'Occitane www.loccitane.com. I have several of their products but the best for overall 'healing' is their lavender shea butter tin. I use it anytime I have a pimple or rough skin on my face (apply at night since it is very thick), a cut, rough knees/elbows, I even use it in my hair sometimes... and it practically takes care of the problem overnight. Their stuff is awesome, and you can order online or go to one of their stores. Oh, and one last thing, I've have my shea butter tin since 2004 and still haven't run out... it lasts forever!

I like Luara Mercier's scrub. It's the best facial scrub I have ever used and it's gentle enough for daily use. Maybe try something like an exfoliant for a while to see if that helps with the dullness.
