Default So why am I tipping out the waitress and bartender?

Ok, I don't mean to sound like a selfish bitch, but I really have to ask this question. Why at the end of the night is it necessary for me to tip out the bartender and waitress? I just really want someone with more experience to explain this one to me. At my club whenever a waitress brings me a drink, or I get one from the bartender I (or the guy buying the drink) tips them right then. So why at the end of the night am I tipping them again for something I've already tipped them for? I completely understand tipping the dj and the bouncer. I know at some clubs the waitress and bartender helps the dancer get private dances, etc. but that is not the case at my club... ours bring drinks and food and thats it. Please don't get me wrong... I just don't understand.

You shouldn't have to tip them twice.

thats pretty messed up... especially if you don't know the bartender or waitress all that well.. i could understand if you were close with them and wanted to tip them because you're friendly with them.... probably just a way for them to make more money so they don't leave the club to find another job.... thats my guess...?

This is how it goes down... if you don't tip them when they bring you your drinks they bitch about you all night... then if you don't tip them additionally at the end of the night they bitch at you in front of everyone working at the club including the manager... that is just what is expected of you.... tip for every drink and tip at the end of the night. Should I just stop tipping for every drink and just wait for the end of the night?

Try and not have the custys buy you drinks. That will piss off the waitress even more! Id personally opt for the no tip her ever, unless shes hooking you up with some $ in return.

Are you buying your own drinks? If there are customers around wait till they order you a drink before you get one, then they will tip the waitress, that will take care of the tipping at the moment problem, then you just tip them at the end of the night.

They need to take a step down from that pedastool and realize that they get paid by the hour, dont get naked and dont have to deal with grabby a*holes all night trying to take you home.

You work hard for your money. You put up with alot more than serving drinks. If tipping them at the end of the night doesnt get their attention that their actions are BS then stop tipping.

yeah, i don't get it. at one stupid club i worked at we were required to tip out the bar and the waitress, were required to sell drinks, but got no commission on them, yet would be fired for turning a single one down. that place made money off drinking customers who were there to see ass, but ass was not rewarded at all; on the contrary.

Just to let you know, we are required to sell six drinks a night (whether we buy them or a guy buys them for us). The waitress/bartender doesn't care who tips them when the drink is sold (just as long as one of us tips them). Then they still expect to be tipped at the end of the night. I usually don't have to buy many of my own drinks, but my club does get a lot of stingy guys that either don't want to tip on stage, don't want to buy drinks, or don't want to tip the waitress/bartender. Here's the other part that sucks... we have a big posterboard with of list of rules on it in the dressing room. One of the rules is that we HAVE to tip out everyone working if we make more than $100 or we get fined. So, I guess I'll just take your advice and tip at the end of the night ONLY, and just have to deal with it if the guys have already tipped them for me.... at least I won't be double-tipping.

At my club we have to sell 3 drink sun-thurs. and 5 on fri & sat. We do however make some commission off of them and the drink quota keeps the girls out of the dressing room and with the customers. So I understand that. I do not tip out the waitress at the end of the night. She also makes $1.50 plus tip from the customer for every drink i sell. If I go to the bartender to get a drink I will tip her a dollar or two.

It's required because it prevents them from getting pissed off at not making enough money at the club. I personally feel that CLUB PERSONNEL should be paid by the club and not out of dancer's earnings. It's just LAME.

It subsidizes their income so they stay and you have a bar/wait staff. Without it, unless they really like looking at T&A, *they* (edited from you) can make more money elsewhere.

Just to reply to the last two messages, our bartender is the owners wife, so she's not getting out of the job... whether she makes money or not... i guess you could say it's a family affair. And for our waitress, her and her husband have an agreement that she make $50 a night to keep the job, and trust me she is making that and quite a bit more. We are not talking about high acheivers here.

At both places that I work at, we're not required to tip out the bartender or waitress. If I get my own drink, I don't tip -- they know I'll tip them at the end. I believe in tipping them b/c they do provide great services to me... they change my bills very quickly, they keep the guys drunk, and the waitress sometimes give me a ride home. Woohoo.

However, if there are multple waitresses, then it seems obnoxious -- the club is just making you do it so that they save themselves money every night. Blah.

I worked at a place that would waive the house fee if you sold wine or champagne through the night. But I've never seen a place force you to tip the waitresses and bartenders. I admit I tip them according to favoritism but if I don't tip they don't get angry. Some waitresses even refuse saying they only take money from the guys. That's a pretty lame policy.

We aren't required to tip cocktail/bartenders - But, it is good business sense to tip them for services rendered such as: directing you to customers with money, helping you by chatting up customers in the VIP so you don't have to dance the whole time, or providing additional services that make your job easier. I think 20% is a good rule of thumb - For example, a waitress sends me in the direction of a guy who spends $100 on me, so I'll give her a $20 to say "thank you." The way I see it, I probably would not have made that money if she hadn't helped.

See this is what I dont understand. Are you an employee or independent contractor. Legally they can't tell you how many drinks you need to sell per shift.

^^ I totally agree!^^ But alot of clubs make you work a certain amount of hours or days per week. And legally they cannot do that if they are not paying you to do so,and they dont when you are an independent contracter. So basically being an independent contracter means jack.

I'm a bitch when forced to do something that doesn't make any sense to me so I would tip them under a dollar (I carry quarters for this reason) for each drink and then tip them no more than 2 dollars at the end of each night. If they bitch explain that you tip after each drink you buy and since you have so many people to tip out at the end of the night you can only give them their share of your tip allowance. The way I look at it is 10 - 15% of what I walk out with will go to tip doormen, dj, bartenders and cocktails. If I walk out with $300 then I have about $30 to spilt between usually 6 people, which means they'd each get $5 off me. I don't tip out more than 10% if I don't have a night over $300. If I do, everyone gets a few extra bucks. You can't break yourself to tip out people that aren't doing you a service... tell them if they expect more in tips you expect more in service.

I'd would only tip them once, and only if I used thier services.

I worked out os state last week and the club had a house mom, one of the dancers working. At the end of the night I was told that I needed to tip her a minimum of $5. I did so but asked my friend who's running the place why I had to.

Her Job is to help with hair, make-up, costumes. She has a supply of baby wipes, tampons, etc, she goes over the rules with new girls. I had to get my manager friend to explain the rules to me beacuse she never did, and I've been at this game for 8 years, I bring my own tampons and baby wipes thank you very much!

If her only job was to be house mom and she stayed in the dressing room and had the supplies etc readily available for girls I wouldn't have had a problem tipping her even if i didn't use her services but his girl was danicing and making money on the floor. I just don't feel she deserved a tip from me. (I could care less about the $5, it's the principle)
