Could anyone suggest some good energy meals to eat before going in to work.
Could anyone suggest some good energy meals to eat before going in to work.
When I was thinner I used to eat a giant salad before work. Romaine, spinach, cuces, carrots and cherry tomatos. I used to throw some (unbreaded) chicken strips and hard-boiled egg in there for protein. I combined it with a fat free dressing. Definitely has some carbs, but good carbs. It gave me energy all night and I was not hungry.

Baked fish, toast, salad, and a small glass of skim milk
If you really want to eat to satisfaction before work, I suggest you eat several hours in advance. Have a healthy hot meal which will keep you ticking over like chicken and vegetables, stir fry, sweet and sour chicken and rice (which I love!). Give it plenty of time to digest before going into work or you'll feel sick, bloated and unsexy.
If you don't have time, have prepared cut vegetables or fruit to grab into work to snack on whilst there. The occassional fast food item won't kill, but don't make it a regular habit. I like to take carrots and houmous if I'm stuck for time, but I'm addicted to that stuff anyway.

Malibu, I agree with you there because if I eat too soon before work I do feel bloated and gasy. However, if you start running low on energy later on what should you eat, an energy bar?

I eat something light about an hour or two before work, such as tuna sandwiches with a salad.I will drink a sugar free beverage such as iced tea or lemonade with the meal.Tuna is an awesome source of protein.

I know it's fast food so it's bad, but I usually have a side salad topped with chili (small) from Wendy's. No joke, I can eat that at 5 in the afternoon and I'll be fine until the next morning when I get off of work.
Otherwise, I usually have plain tuna over a salad with lemon juice. Lots of water too. I find that drinking water (room temp. to be exact) during the night helps to keep my energy level up.

I ate a few hours before work also. Some type of protein with a salad...no bread or pasta as it would give me a crash and make me want to sleep.
I agree with Greggy that drinking water throughout the night is key. And I always kept a protein shake with me in case I started to experience low blood sugar during my shift.
You want to eat slow burning carbs about 50-70 grams 45 min before. The best is oatmeal, very easy to make you can put some honey on top for sweetener.
An energy bar is not a bad idea. If they sell them where you are, you could eat Nutri grain bars; I like the elevenses variety, they are reasonably healthy and satisfying. You might also want to consider taking a wrap (be careful if you buy it, sometimes they're filled with all kinds of junk).Originally Posted by greenidlady1
I used to work in a club with a microwave. This was great if you wanted to heat up your homemade soup and eat in during a small break in the changing room. If you have a microwave, then soup is the way to go. Chunky or pureed vegetable soup is hot and filling but not too heavy in your stomach. Accompanied with some bread or crackers is nice too.
