Thumbs up Olive leaf extract for infection

For the third time in the past 5-6 years I've gotten an infection behind my lower left wisdom tooth - the tooth is fine; it's the gums behind, get infected and swell up over the tooth and hurts like hell.

Last time the dentist wanted to pull it along with my other lower wisdom tooth to prevent future infections. He said (and I've read) that due to crowding back there it's easy for bacteria to grow and cause infection - hard to get back there to clean properly. After last time I started using a rotating toothbrush with the longer front bristles, and it does seem to help, but alas, I got another infection this week.

As a side note, I guess I'm gonna have to break down and get the damn thing pulled when my health insurance kicks in next month. Ugh.

But, the positive news I wanted to share is that I found an herbal remedy that seems to be working EXTREMELY well for the infection. I always prefer a natural remedy if I can find something that works - the fewer chemicals I ingest the better! Did some online searching and found several references for olive leaf extract. Bought some yesterday morning and started taking the recommended dose I found ONLINE, which was more than what was on the bottle.

This infection started around Wednesday and by Saturday had gotten to the point my ear/throat was hurting, hard to talk/smile, and the correlating lymph node in my neck was swollen and hurt like a muthafucka. After taking the stuff yesterday, by midnight last night my mouth was MUCH better, and my lymph node was smaller and less painful. This morning my mouth/throat/ear is pain-free, my gum area at the source of infection is only a tiny bit sore, and my lymph node is totally down and only a tiny bit sore. Obviously the infection is going away.

I can't believe how well this stuff works! I don't like taking meds and avoid it as much as possible. I didn't want to spend the money to get another dentist to set me up with antibiotics and lecture me again that I need to get the damn tooth pulled - I know, I'll get it done when my insurance comes.

So I spent a couple hours of my time researching, and $20 on the olive leaf (a good brand, 100% vegetarian), and it looks like I'll get away with skipping the doc and meds this time. YAY!

Sorry this is so long. I guess I'm a lil excited and like to tell stories. heh

****I read that this stuff is supposed to be good as an all-around natural antibiotic, and also good for colds/flu, herpes (cold sores) and other common health annoyances. I know it has sure made my infection better in a hurry!

I have also been brushing with EXTRA care back there and swishing some peroxide in that area. No swallowing and rinse thoroughly after. Just thought I'd share. If this stuff works this well on a mouth infection it has to be good for others as well.

Dosage I'm taking: From a bottle of 500mg olive leaf extract - 4 pills initially, then 2 pills 3 times a day, with food. I'll continue for a week even though the symptoms are going away quicker. I haven't found any info on side effects, and I haven't felt anything but better!

    Do your own research.

Yep. Just like you would take chemical meds to get rid of infection.

My body reacts violently to most antibiotics so, unless the sickness is severe, I'm told to just wait it out most of the time.

This sounds like it might be a viable option since it's natural. Thanks for sharing.

Yep. Olive leaf is a natural antibiotic and I believe also an antibacterial. It's great for anything you would normally take an antibiotic for (and much easier on your body) and can also be used topically on cuts that are infected. I've never seen it as a pill tho, I've always gotten it as a liquid...

The stuff I got is liquid-filled capsules. There were other brands in the store that were some kind of pills also, but they didn't seem to have the same quality as what I got - most expensive brand in the store for $20. I figure $20 is much better than $50-100 for a dentist visit and meds. And it's working extremely well! Today I'm almost 100%! I'll be looking for this stuff for infections from now on

Love this stuff. I'm always getting sore throats from working in smoky clubs and what-not. Stuff was prescribed to me by my Doc when I had pneumonia. It's awesome.

I used this a few years ago to stave off a cold, and it worked really well. I'd forgotten about it, thanks for the reminder!

So I got reeeeeaaalllly nasty burn on my arm; it started to get infected and I used some of my olive leaf extract (liquid-filled gelcaps, cut open) on it. It was better within a day, we're talking hours. Of course it's all scabbed over and itchy now - which means it's healing. This stuff rocks!

GNC has Olive Leaf. Would this work? The label says it has "Olive Leaf Extract (Olea europaea L.)(10% Oleuropein = 50mg) 500.00 mg". It's not a liquid. I think it's ground leaf in capsules.
