I have done some research on this topic and wondered if any one else knew of it as well. I was told it can be done without extras. Can anyone Help me?

You do realize that a courtesan is the professional term for Working girl right.....

I always thought that a courtesan was a mistress for a wealthy man. Is that not what it means?

lol @ you guys.![]()

Yes, it does actually:Originally Posted by Mary BlueBoot

The whole "word of mouth" concept strikes me as bunk since golf course conversations between Tom the CFO and Harry the Hedgefund guy rarely go like this:
Tom: So whadya do last weekend?
Harry: I met this fabulous hooker. I should give you her number.
But, still, read the 101. It's quite valuable.
Another interesting courtesan blog of a woman who is the real deal is this one:

Can you tell us where you heard that? Who told you that it does not involve "extras"?Originally Posted by Damia
To the best of my knowledge, the term is not all that well defined, or in other words, not used all that consistently by different people, but I have never heard it used to mean anything other than a prostitute; it simply indicates a prostitute who is classy, educated, fancy in some sense, exclusive in her clientel, expert, serious and professional about her chosen career, proud of her sexual abilities and so forth.
You might take a look at the High Dollar Hotties forum at http://www.aspd.net/. Many of the women who post there consider themselves to be courtesans. And I believe there have been threads there (at least one) about what exactly it means to be a courtesan rather than an "ordinary" prostitute; I don't think there was any clear consensus though.

I consider myself a professional courtesan...... licensed actually and the girls who call themselves courtesans with-out extras..... should have sticked to sugardaddy.com
Think of it like a stripper who doesn't take off her dress....

Yeah and I'm an ecdysiast.

Thanks for the info. I meant to say that 'extras' weren't required right away. That it would follow in a normal way, like a relationship.

SC, I agree with you about PMC. Every once in a while something slips in there that sucks the believability out of it.
I've never worked as an escort but I deeply believe that men don't enter into a commercial relationship with an attractive woman to solely purchase her time. It's been said time and time again here that that's a dangerous game to play. If you are a dominatrix you can be a dominatrix, since those clients know not to expect sex. If you're a stripper doing private parties, you can be a stripper, and either make that clear or have backup. But don't expect to make money by simply being a dinner companion or going shopping. Guys with money to blow like that can find women to do that for free. If they're paying for your time, they are expecting something. It's hazardous to believe otherwise.

i have "The book of the courtesans" by Susan Griffin and "The art of seduction" by Robert Greene. when i hear the word courtesan i think of Mme de Pompadour, Ninon de Lenclos, Cora Pearl, Coco Chanel, etc. I also think of the times when courtesans were more respected and better treated than wives. It's just not like this anymore. Back in the day these women got everything on their terms, had fortunes thrown at their feet, and attracted to their salons the greatest minds of their generation, who considered it an honor to be there. These women knew how to be fascinating. Essentially they were hookers, but they were so desirable only because they were fascinating. They were infamous, eccentric, fearless and daring, were amazing natural psychologists and philosophers, remained beautiful until very old age, and became legends and icons. And alongside them there were always cheap street girls who died young and in poverty, at 20 looking 40...
times have changed, people have changed... i didn't know people still use the word courtesan now.

They don't, they use words like hooker, slut, whore, tramp.. A woman is not idolized anymore and put upon a pedestal and I blame the worlds Mothers for not teaching their sons.
If my boys said half of the crap that young men say to me when I'm at work they would not have anything but a nub to sit on. Let the beatings commence!!!
Then again most young girls are no better. It's very sad.

agree. men are the way they are now because a lot of women let them get away for a long time with giving them less in many ways. and yes, there's a lot of spoiling by mothers. and i think deep down men are angry and despise women who don't realize their own value, and aren't aware when they are giving more than they are getting in return. women who got everything they wanted *knew* they were worth it all. and showed it by not accepting less.

Susan is mostly right. Most of the women like Elle (from Butterfield11.com) specialize in longer mitli hour or multi-day appointments and if a guy whisks you away to Cabo for a weekend, some shagging will be expected but apparently it's actually not even a huge part of it. These guys seem interested in the overall companionship aspect. They know there are a zillion girls out there they can call if all they want is to get laid.Originally Posted by Susan Wayward
Bridgette is also right that it's term commonly applied to high dollar escorts, but the guys that book these girls expect someone smart, pretty and elegant who knows how to behave in public, since longer dates are a mix of public and private time.
Man, a girl sure can learn a lot from being friends with SmartCookie.

Sorry, Missy...'Salons' are not what you are thinking. Salons were literary venues (often held in the parlor room of distinguished ladies' estates) where women invited philosophers, public officials, and writers to discuss literature. These were often held weekly and were attended by 12 to 20 or so of the literary greats/important figures. These women were a part of aristocratic society before the end of the Old Regime in France and "bourgeoise" women after the fall of the old regime. Naturally, these women were already wealthy be marriage or being born into wealth and were NOT "courtesans" in any paid sense of which we are conversing within this topic. A few famous women were openly lesbian but a lot were married to influential people. Im taking a class on this right now...needed to clear this misunderstanding up.
