'loan sharking' by clubowners is arguably illegal, but it always seems to have plenty of takers i.e. short-sighted dancers. From the standpoint of an unscrupulous clubowner, dancers owing money to the club is very useful in building just the type of 'loyalty' clubowners like. It also comes in handy when clubs are approached about providing 'willing' girls for OTC events !

Put another way, any dancer who borrows money from her club is essentially selling her soul (as well as her tits and ass) to the club the minute she comes up short on repayment !

I borrowed money a couple of times. I had no intention of paying it back. I knew I could work it off in a half hour or so. Seemed like a good deal to me. I tried it at a bank one time and the guy just looked at me with a blank look. My soul is not for sale but the tits and ass go for 500 an hour.

In my club we call it a "draw" and you just pay it back to the manager when you get it. Most of the time I just let the club keep my cut of the LD until it's paid back. They never charge any interest though. I don't think I would do it if that was the case.

Honestly, if my club did that, I would've taken a $600 loan last night. I don't think one should make a habit of it, but if it's an emergency and you can't get the money anywhere else, as long as you pay them back on time, I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

20 to 25% a year or a week? For instance if you borrow $1000 on Monday and $1250 is payable the next Monday you are paying 25% interest a week or 1,300% (approximately) interest per year. After four weeks if you made no payments and they haven't broken your legs, you would owe $2,441.41.

I hope you have gotten the point that this is a very high rate of interest, even for an unsecured loan with a borrower who has variable stream of income that is not predictable.

The payday stores are a better deal. See if one of them will do some type of deal. In this instance a home equity loan would make a great deal of sense as that type of loan is at a second mortgage rate of about 6.5% per year. Taking money off of a credit card would be a good deal (by comparison) as they have rates of 19 - 25% per YEAR for the "bad" cards.

uh, if someone had good enough credit to have a mortgage...or even a credit card, I don't think they would be hitting up a loan shark.

I've always fantasized about getting into the shylock business, but I'm too afraid of getting busted. Plus I don't have any hired goons.

Nikki, you are a solid scream. LOL

But you soul is not for sale maybe because you don't own it anymore. But maybe that's OK if you're having fun.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

I don't get it. You're a dancer, how can you ever be that strapped for cash? You work, you save, work again...how could you ever get yourself in a bind to where you would have to ask your club for a handout? Oh, and to answer your question: No, I would never ask a club for a loan.

I don't get it either, CK, but you know they are there. It's like it's a surprise rent is due at the end of the month or something.

....and if there is anyone that can get cash fast by just working for it, it's a dancer.

    a few things.

Let me say this though on the behalf of all broke dancers lol. Sometimes, when you have kids...bills etc and a slow long bit at work.. you need help to just get a bit caught up for the moment.

When your kids are ill enough that you can't get someone to watch them and you really do need to stay home with them.. .when you yourself are sick and out of work for a week or so.. yes a loan would be great.

Fuck I need a loan shark now lol, having to pay a housepayment till it sells and paying rent in chicago.. add some bills ontop of that and 2 kids. Yah im going insane here. A bad night right now isn't an option. and I can only physically work 4 nights a week.

Although I've never dealt with a club that loaned money ( since girls can disappear rather easily and often do a lot of times. ) I've met a few sharks in my time just in passing.

Its a means to get by but def., REPAY. if they are anything like those i've known, they aren't kind when it comes to having to find you in order for you to repay that loan.

That is a draw, it is different from a loan and pretty usual in the sales business.

Even if the term is yearly, this is a pretty steep rate. Sounds like the club could end up owning you. I wouldn't get involved. At the same time, clubs that do this have cornered a market. Who else is going to give an emergency cash loan to a stripper?

Well that's what I thought before I started dancing. A friend was my link when I started and she always saved and had plenty a cash in her pockets to pay her bills and then some. Once I started dancing it was as if certain girls didn't have any idea that money doesn't just fall out of the customers pockets! These types of girls (definitely not all!) thought they could come and go whenever they wanted and that they didn't have to have a good work ethic, but it is important to work hard and be smart about your money! Sadly those girls are probably still living in week-to-week motels and bumming rides off the other girls. (and NO, I'm not talking about those who have real responsibility like kids or family, trying to get by, I'm talking about the young ones with the crappy, abusive, boyfriends and bad habits.)

Our club does loans when you first start, they will loan you the cash for your business license, shoes, and possibly an outfit. You give ALL the money you make to them until it is paid off. No interest is charged, but I chose to just pay for my own stuff. I'd rather not owe a club money, just doesn't seem like a great deal.

I think that is such a bad idea; well at least for clubs here in MT. Girls can disappear easily here and there isn't much "strongarm" behind some of these local clubs to go looking for a girl that owes money.

I've always looked at dancing like it was a something I was only going to be able to do for a limited time so when I go, I GO all out and make as much as possible so I have that savings. I don't think I would ever trust a club to give me a loan in their "good faith" that I will repay it without having some other bullshit drama surprise.

If you're gonna work in this industry, get used to the fact that management is largely corrupt, exploitative, non-innovative, and non-caring. The loans will work for them more than they figure they will work for you.

Some of the small clubs I work bookings at will advance girls money against their $300-$400 base pay that they get on Saturday night. Of course there is no interest involved, and the money is usually used to pay the costume person.

A vast majority of dancers are BROKE, are not motivated to work this like a mainstream job, and are lousy at working the floor. They don't have savings and checking accounts, many have no cars, no or bad credit, and live with roommates thus having no assets in their name.

Is it any wonder that some club owners try to gain "leverage" over these "flaky" girls?

Seriously... problem is the more you make the more you spend and pretty soon youre spending more than you make and cant catch up.. been there done that (thank gosh I got over it) but I see it all the time at the club.

As per borrowing $$ from a club - no freaking way... Id rather work a month straight to get the $$ needed than get it from a loan shark...

After having to work that week or even amonth straight you learn to save your money for bills and the extras that come up.

In almost 9 years of dancing I have never had to borrow money to pay the bills, if I had to borrow money I wouldn't dance anymore.

at 25% no way would I take that deal with anyone
on other terms, it would depend on just how good my working relationship with the club was. I've borrowed money once, and only did that becuase I had no way to cover a bill inorder to register on time that semester, but the manager and I had been really tight friends for a while. I don't think I would have taken an offfer like that from most of the place's I've worked.

At what rate is it usuary?
I've never borrowed money, per se, and it would really never occur to me to ask my club manager for a loan. I have had clubs pay for things like licenses, and I have had costume people run club tabs, where they take whatever they are selling you out of what the club is paying you. But those are very short term, informal "perks"
