    Default Should I get botox?

I just turned 20 and I was thinking about getting something done this summer about my smile lines. I feel like they are worse than they should be for my age. My mom is about 47 and had them pretty bad. Can anyone recommend any good treatments that would work for me and last for a while - botox, collagen, fat implants ect....

OH gimme a freaking break. You're 20, not 45 girl...Your skin is still changing..You're a growing young lady. You dont' have "smile lines" are you serious?! You should be worried about pimples and breakouts not fine lines.

I'm sorry to bitch but DAMMIT MAN! Some people are so quick to try every little gadgit and gizmo that hits the market. You're 20yrs old..how much younger are you trying to look?

I think it's ridiculous because smile lines are so cute (eye and forehead wrinkles are another story.)

    Just curious....do you smoke?

Everyone's face kinda scrunches up a bit when they smile- maybe that's what you're seeing?

I would be careful about getting botox. I have an aunt who ending up with all these facial nerve problems and a drooping eye from the stuff. Plus, you're young. I doubt you need it.

Maybe you can try a tightening facial cream instead, if they bother you that much?? I think 20 is too young for botox.

I dont smoke but I grew up in Denver where people do tend to age faster. I am kinda scared of botox because I heard that same thing.

I could be wrong but doesn't botox relax the muscle thereby rendering it "useless?" Doesn't that mean you wouldn't be able to smile?

I think at your age you would probably benefit from a preventative/treatment skin care regimen as opposed to fillers but we have no idea of the condition of your skin...perhaps glycolic products or retinoids. Have you spoken to a dermatologist about your concerns?

edit: by smile lines are you talking about the nasolabial folds or when your eyes crinkle up?

just curious....but how do people age faster in Denver? to answer your question, though, don't do botox....no need when you're so young. when you are your mom's age, then it might be a relevant question.

I have received botox twice and am a huge advocate of it if applied correctly and you don't overdo it. I get it done once a year and have them place little tiny injections, intead of one or two big injections (if it is spaced out, you still have movement and don't look stiff).
HOWEVER, you are mistaken about something. Botox is for the eyes UP, meaning it works to help freeze/soften the movement that creates wrinkles around the eyes (crow's feet) and forehead. It DOES NOT work for the eyes down, meaning lines underneath the eyes or around the lips or "smile lines". i don't know of a responsible doctor who will inject botox in these areas, because you need to be able to move your mouth freely. if you want to "fill" these lines (around the mouth), then you do so with either restyline or collagen injections (which I have never done, so I can't advise you).
ALSO, another big misconception ladies - your wrinkles have very little to do with your age. It has to do more with genetics, diet, skin tone, sun exposure, etc. Therefore a twenty year old may need botox more than a forty year old if she has a more vulnerable skin type. So don't feel guilty for wanting to explore technology regardless of age, only you know what willl make you feel your best, there should not be a stigma attached to this as far as I am concerned. Like I said, I get botox, but only very subtly, and for my lines on my forehead because they run in my family. Hope this helps!
(Also, if someone had a bad reaction, like headahces or nerve problems, I would say that it was administered carelessly, since usually it is quite safe)

I know exactly what the O.P. is talking about. My facial structure (or the amt. of fat in my face) has created a smooth hill of the area where my nasal-labial folds are. I want a taught, smooth face, but w/e. People think I look cute when I smile because of it.

Hey Tara86, you should check out Go to facial procedures. She describes all sorts of treatments and options. The Beauty message board is pretty active too.

I know, I had this little 19 year girl come up to me in the dressing room and ask what those lines were around her lips and how she could get rid of them, botox? I said no, first thing you can do is stop smoking, that will save your skin in its self. Secondly, stop looking so damn hard, most all of us have smile lines. Then she said she needed a boob job. Her boobs were probably a B and of course perky as hell. I said, wait until you have a baby or you are at least thirty. You have perfect titties. Geez...

The air in Denver is much much thinner than the air in othetr parts of the U.S. I nocite it expecially when I travel from Denver back to NY and peoples skin really does look a lot different, even my own. The boiling point there is even lower than anywhere else (95).

Yeah, with a pic at least we can tell whether we really think you need it or not.

CK i am totally with you on this. You're 20 years old!! Wait a few years, you are still young and you shouldn't be worrying about having to "fix" anything.

I should have used the quote feature...I actually thought you were answering for her!

You know what I think ages people more than facial lines? Hands. And hair, even in women.
