Has anyone tried Hoodia for weight loss? I've been hearing a lot of talk about it, both good and bad.

Has anyone tried Hoodia for weight loss? I've been hearing a lot of talk about it, both good and bad.
Most pills that advertise as having hoodia have none at all or very, very tiny quantities that can't do anything on their own. If you look at the labels, they often contain other stimulants as the main ingredient.
Hoodia is hard to grow and attempts at growing it outside its native African desert environment haven't been successful.
Hoodia pills are marketed at supplements, so they don't have as much of a legal obligation to live up to the claims they make. If you do go out and buy the pills, you might experience some weight loss, but it'll likely be from the other stimulants in the pills.
"She has written so well, and marvellously well, that I was completely ashamed of myself as a writer...But this girl, who is to my knowledge very unpleasant and we might even say a high-grade bitch, can write rings around all of us who consider ourselves as writers"
Ernest Hemingway on writer, aviation pioneer and horse trainer Beryl Markham
Hoodia, if you buy it from a reputable grower, is a helpful diet aid.
I speak from experience, & my mom likes it too.
It works by tricking your brain to thinking your blood sugar is up, so the "I'm hungry" signal doesn't happened as often.
Almost works TOO good, you have to remind yourself to eat.
The Bushman take it to supress appetite on long journeys
in barren enviroments.
The plant in endangered now, since that reporter
on CNN(?) popularized it...Everyone is coming out with stuff CLAIMING to have Hoodia in it...But 90% are full of fillers.
You need to ingest the actually meat of the plant, which is more expensive to package- mine was $40/bottle.
Good luck~

how many pills of this do u take at a time and how many times per day?

Does anyone know of a reputable maker of hoodia supplements? I researched and found that Hoodoba was supposed to be good. Does anyone have any info?
I will try anything once. Does anyone know the name of the Hoodia that works without other crap in it?? Like a pure Hoodia??
Dex-L10 is a good brand. Comes with a seal of authenticity. Start at 1500mg (3 pills) and increase to 3000mg if needed. Take before breakfast and lunch. And remember to drink water. Hoodia also kills the desire to hydrate.
I've been taking Hoodia 911, which is 800mg per pill (with the appropriate certifications). I've only been taking it for two days, but it does work. When I take it, I don't feel hungry and even if I start with hunger pangs, they go away soon after taking it. However, I'm noticing that just because I'm not hungry doesn't mean that brownie won't still fit in my stomach. So some discipline around eating smaller meals is still required. :-)

Hmm I want to try this. I must have bought the 'filler' Hoodia- 'cause mine didn't seem to work very well.
Aviendha- is the pill itself one of those long oval ones? I hate those- so hard for me to swallow.
It is a long oval one. I've been taking mine with juice, then drinking water (the instructions say to take with 8oz of water, probably to prevent the dehydration issues other posters noted, where you forget to drink).

I just started taking something called Slim form Hoodia. The bottle says that it is 100% certified, but so far it hasn't done anything for my appetite. Do the other brands come with an actual certificate? 1 tablet is 500mg and I increased it to two, but still nothing. Keep me posted if this stuff works for you. Maybe it takes time?? Any one ever try Green Tea?

I just started Green Tea yesterday. Boy, I never had so much energy, and without the shakes and sick feeling I get from soda. I didn't feel like eating, either. I will keep you updated on it. I am drinking Lipton Green Tea with Lemon and Ginseng.
But for now, I think with all the Hoodia scams, green tea is a better choice.

How does Green Tea taste?

The green tea tastes ok with some honey in it, but I am sad to report that I have experienced severe diarrhea. I do massage for a living and I have never had to run out of the room in the middle of a service. And I had to today. It was so embarrassing.
I came home and did some research. It not likely that the Green Tea is giving me diarrhea. It's the ginseng. I have to try a different green tea, without ginseng.
I was doing a little research to see if I could buy pills with ephedra via the internet and came across this Hoodia... Does it feel like ephedra?
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.

I got these Hoodia patches at the health food store last year, UGHH such a waste of money they were like 40.00 and did not do a damn thing to control appetite.
So I DONT suggest those. The pills are probably way better.
I had good results with Tonalin CLA.
Nothing works like ephedra did.
I miss ephedra....

Agree^^^.
I bought some hoodia pills from Walmart (the name currently escapes me) and I think they controlled my apetite however they were full of caffeine. I couldn't sleep later. I stopped taking them because I don't think it's good to consume so much caffeine. I bought some Hoodia tea (the brand was Bija)from a health food store. It tastes good- almost chocolatey. Maybe it helps control my apetite a bit- not sure. It was $10 for 20 teabags. I'll keep drinking it because I like the taste and in case it helps.
Fat Loss Supplements - Overhyped and Overpriced
By Anthony Colpo
Hoodwinked by Hoodia?
Hoodia is currently being vigorously marketed as an appetite suppressant. I went looking for supportive data and could only find research showing that rats injected or tube-fed with a glycoside extracted from Hoodia subsequently reduced their caloric intake and lost weight [8,9]. What this means for humans taking oral Hoodia supplements is anyone's guess; I couldn't find any studies examining its use in real live humans. In other words, all the Hoodia hype is predicated entirely on rodent research.
Readers should be very careful when extrapolating the results of animal research onto humans; calcium and DHEA, for example, produce significant weight loss in rodents but have no such effect in healthy Homo sapiens. Save your money until it can be proven that Hoodia produces meaningful fat loss in humans.
