    Default Slim-fast diet--any pointers????

I have been slowly gaining weight since Christmas. Or maybe since I quit smoiking. I have figured out that Chocloalte is my new niccotine! Anyway, I have been having a ton of issues in my life that have made it very difficult to stick to a diet of any sort. I finally gave up and decided to go with Slim-fast to give me a jump start. (If I don't see any results quickly, I tend to give up, which is one of the reasons I don't do so well w/ diets)

The diet plan is pretty sensible. 2 cans of Slim-fast daily, plus a decent sized meal, 3 snacks (about 100 cal each) and 4 additional fruits and veggies. Not crazy or anything, and very convenient. I am also going to take hoodia to help control hunger and tonalin to help maintain muscle mass. I take a really good multi and mineral suppliment every day, too. Along with 3-4 cups of tea and some water, that will be my daily intake.

Does anybody have any pointers about supplimests, exercise, or whatever that will make this easier or work better?

Long cardio workouts are out of the question for me at this time. I don't have a home gym and all the weights except some 3 lb dumbells have been packed up. I am also working around my almost 5 year old kid who clings to me like velcro wehnever I am home. And the weather here sucks and is ery unpredictable.

I know that sound slike a litany of excuses, but really it is a list of stuff that I can't figure out how to work around. In nice weather I would slam a slim-fast and then take my kid out for a bike ride or something, but I can't do it now!

    All suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

kinda unrelated to slim-fast, but as someone who also gives up if she doesn't see results....don't weigh yourself....at all.

I know all too well to work hard and see no change and be like, "well, I could have done that eating what I want.....f*ck it"

not too much into slim fast. i had good results with weight watchers. you need to read between the lines with them- some stuff has too much sugar or fat or the wrong kinds.

don't bother with the meetings, i just snagged the book from my mom and did it myself.

some chocolate cheats: swiss miss sugar free hot cocoa, healthy choice lowfat no sugar added chocolate brownie ice cream, pria bars. these are all relatively low in sugar and fat.

Steve Ross has a great yoga show called Inhale, on the Oxygen network. He's very inspiring, and no equipment required. I used to do his show every morning back when I had cable, and got very toned, very quickly. Maybe you could go mallwalking until the weather clears up?

Splenda is a godsend. Kashi cereal, too.

Good luck! Slim fast really does work, if you're disciplined, but remember to have a nutrition plan for maintaining the weight loss.

Maintainence will not be too hard. I know how to cook properly for good nutrition; I just have not been doing it lately. Mostly I cancelled my weekly produce order until we get settled, so I have nothing to make salads with. ANd I have been drinking way too much wine, and eating way too much chocolate. ANd the guy at the mexican place down the street from my work knows me by name!

LIke I said, I am looking for a jump-start to get me moving in the right direction, until I have time to cook for myself and family properly again. I know slim fast is not perfect nutrition, but it is convenient and brainless.

I wouldn't bother without a plan to maintain the lower weight permanently.

I have had some success with Slim Fast in the past when I needed to lose only 5-10 lbs. I was thinking of trying their new higher protein shakes - I think they are called Slim Fast "Optima". I saw on their commercial they are supposed to control your hunger longer because they are higher in protein - something I am lacking anyway.

Another thing I do is to drink water with lemon juice. I just buy the lemon juice in the bottle, but add a squirt to my bottled water. For some reason it makes me feel fuller, and the lemon taste is refreshing. I love it!

Also for snacks, soy crisps are really good and satisfy that sweet or salty craving, depending on what kind you get. I am hooked on the white cheddar ones.

Lunchobx: I have 20-30 lbs to loose. I have PLENTY of time to work out a maintainence strategy.

I have been doing this 2 days and I am ALWAYS hungry. Does anybody know how long that will last?

It would be cheaper for you to go buy a big tub of meal replacement. I also found Meal Replacement shakes that you make at home have better ingredients than the Slim Fast Shakes.

Venus--I am going to try both of those ideas. It really does not take me that much time to make a shake in the mornings, right? The cans are fun and easy to carry to work, so I will save them for that.

I like the idea of flavoring water, too. I tried the fat flush diet last summer, andI have several bottles of cranberry juice left over from that mis-adventure. I think I will do that again. You only use abuot 1/2 c creanberry juice to a half gallon of waer or so (I think) so it's not like I would be adding a lot of extra calories there.

Yeah, I don't know about those Slimfast diets for keeping it off-whenever Ive tried , I always end up gorging myself later. It sounds like you know what you're doing with healthy eating and whatnot. Here's some stuff I like (like Venus said, those fruits and veggies):

~baked sweet potato (fills you up; lots of nutrition)
    ~carrots and celery with mustard
~cucumbers (theres what, 40 cals in a whole one?)
    ~baked apples
~cooked broccoli and cauliflower with low fat cream of _____ soup yum

Not on the diet, but use your child to work out. Play more physical games with him like tg and what not. It'll be good for you, and wear him out so he'll be easyer to handle. You can look up more games on play online Im sure

I'd def have to say I like the weight watchers diet better...........and they make their own line of foods, their little mini chocolate cake bar thingys are REALLY good and are usually a quick fix for chocolate for me.

Chocolate Carnation Instant Breakfast with fat free milk is how I lost all the baby weight (I gained 65 pounds). It's the same type of idea, for breakfast and lunch I mixed a drink, for dinner I had something like grilled chicken and vegetables. I had a huge bowl of already picked and cleaned grapes to snack on throughout the day. To me the Carnation powder tastes better than SlimFast. Either way you will cut your calories and lose weight. Don't forget to drink your water.

I'm not so big on veggies and such myself, so I eat a lot of pretzels and popcorn. I've also fallen in love with baked cheetos.

If you really want to slim up fast this ALWAYS works for me. No lame slim fast required.Eliminate white bread ,pasta, potatoes and stick with lean protien and vegetables.Think high fiber to fill you up and drink water with lemon like crazy.Thirst is often mistaken for hunger and the lemon acts as a natural diuretic...and step up the cardio to burn fat 30-45 minutes 3-5 times a week.Weight training will also boost your metabolism.Stay away from alchohol as this will make you retain water and stimulate appetite...I know it sounds like no fun, but this will get you results.FAST.

Raw fruits and vegetables are definitely best. Your system burns more calories to digest these foods. Plus there's more nutrients and fiber, which helps subside the hunger feeling. They're especially good after a meal too, if you've still have the munchies. That's why Europeans eat salad as the last course. It helps push things along.

My favorite is a nice salad with tunafish on top and low fat dressing. The lemon/water i agree is good as well. I use the carnation instant breakfasts alot when i have a sweet tooth. It really works well to satisfy my after dinner desert cravings. Also, my aunt really had great results on the point system by weightwatchers... so maybe that could be option. Can someone explain the cranberry water flush diet some more?

I do not recommend Slim Fast at all.

I have tried the Slim Fast diet twice. Once in my late teens and once again about a year ago. Both times I lost less than 5 lbs and then gain it back plus a couple after I quit using it. Plus it made me feel weak and caused stomach issues.

The only "diet" that has worked well for me is to not diet at all other than smaller portion size combined with daily workouts.
