    Default Confused New Club Owner

Hey Everybody. Great site. I got a lot of information just from reading all the posts. Anyway, I was looking to make some friends and ask a few questions. I just opened a club in the Albany, NY area and I am completely new to any aspect of the adult industry. I am young guy (mid 20's) which seems to both hurt and help me. I am able to relate well with my current girls but they also try to walk all over me and the club. Anyway, I am having real trouble networking and understanding how to book dancers. A few of my questions:

What are some ways to attract new dancers to the club? (Websites, Publications, etc)

Does anybody have any information on how to get overseas talent to come work a club?

Can someone detail the real important things that dancers are looking for in a club?

Thanks I look forward to making some new friends.

I think that word of mouth is definetely a good way to attract new dancers. If your current dancers have a good experience working at your club, then they will most likely tell other dancers that they know about the club. In my area, many club owners/managers will go recruiting for girls at other clubs in the area (with each club manager's permission). They will bring their business card, and talk to the dancers about their club and why they should come work there. They usually have some kind of deal worked out with the other club that if they get a few girls from their club, then they will send over a few of their dancers, so it's almost like a tradeoff.

I think that a good club (from a dancer's perspective) would have a reasonable (or no) housefee, no mandatory tipouts, flexible scheduling, a decent dancer to customer ratio, and a good dressing room with plenty of lighting and counterspace.
Take the road less traveled- just make sure you have a map.

You know nothing about running a strip club, yet you went ahead and did it anyway?? You are a very brave person (or very rich, and can afford to lose tons of money while you learn the business).

A guarenteed, sure fire way to get dancers to book into your club is to use an agent, and then offer shift pay to your girls. Yes, the agent is going to charge you too.

Trying to attract foriegn dancers is a sticky situation. You may get Canadians coming across the border, but if you have this situation often, you may end up getting caught by immigration, and lose your business. It is very difficult to get a work visa in the US, and takes years in some cases.

To make a long story short, if your dancers are able to earn a lot of money, then word will spread like wild fire (and by a lot of money, I mean $1k a shift). This info has to come from the girls, because a lot of owners/ managers will tell potential dancers this, but any dancer who has been around the pole a couple of times learns quickly that it is usually BS when an owner/ manager says his girls are making $1k per shift.

Now obviously it doesn't have to be all the dancers making this kind of money, but it does have to be some of the dancers, and the money has to be consistant (think NYC or Vegas).

Also consider attending the DancerWealth seminar, so that way you understand the dancer's earnign POV. If you have no dancers, you have no business.

I have taken over and turned around two other nightclubs before this one but this is the first time i tried a strip club. No I am not rich, just a very hard worker who has done a lot in the business world at a fairly young age. I bought a strip club to make money. No other reason. We are making money, but there are a lot of hassles that I am dealing with each day. The biggest has been booking girls. Every club owner I have spoken to says the same thing.

Paris, you mentioned agencies. Can you recommend any agencies or even dancers who are looking to act as agents. Currently I am not charging any house fees and willing to pay hard-working, hustling girls to come work at my club. I even have room and board available. If I have to use an agent in the beginning then I will.

Thanks again for all the advice.

PS: how did everyone create the signature pics...

And this page has lots of indusrtry links, including talent agencies:

You also might be unaware that getting dancers to stick to a schedule is next to impossible. If the dancers show up 2/3 of the time you are doing well. If you want a dancer to start her shift at 7pm you need to tell her that she has to be on the floor at 6pm.

Don't threaten unless you mean it. If you threaten to fire or suspend any dancer for any reason, be prepared to follow through. If you don't follow through you will be walked on for the rest of your career. I know of only one club owner who opperates this way, and the dancers who work at her club are the top. Her little hole-in-the-wall place still does great business despite some pretty stiff competition.

I bought my first club in Little Rock Ark. A long time ago. Had the same problem. No dancers and the ones that were there were not any good. I called up a friend of mine in Chicago and got two ex Playboy centerfolds to dance for me at an outrageous price for a month. I paid them an hourly wage and guaranteed their tips would be over a certain amount each night.

Then I went out locally and got 6 of the hottest cocktail waitresses I could find who had never worked at a strip club and paid them twice the going rate and guaranteed their tips also.

I put up big banners outside the club for really inexpensive drink specials on my slowest days. I had free food for happy hour and advertised that fact. I gave all of my employees free drink cards to pass out to all their friends. I went to the local clubs and found a popular lady bartender and stole her.

I hired a DJ called Vance and the Blanche the Brazilian bombshell (his wife was a feature dancer and they worked together). Vance also kept the dancers in line bringing the new ones in without much friction with the old ones. He had a gift for working with women they all seemed to like him and he never hit on anyone because his wife was there.

When I took over the place it was very redneck and cheap customers. I would buy drinks for anyone who came in dressed decently. I worked the door myself during peak periods and refused entry to anyone who was an obvious troublemaker i.e. drunk, drugs, weapons etc.

I hired state troopers and local cops for security on weekends.

I paid friends of mine to offer the cocktail large amounts of money for lap dances and if they would get on stage to dance. That worked they all started dancing in a couple of weeks.

When you steal people and transition CW’s to dancers and make significant inroads into another one or two clubs business life can be a little scary so be prepared.

The word spreads and other dancers from clubs that you have taken customers from begin to apply for jobs. I also did not take a day off for 6 months. I was there open to close every day.

Have you thought about advertising in Xtreme magazine... They market specifically to this industry...

Just as an addendum I got banned because one of the moderators told me I was not in the strip club business. I posted a negative comment about strip club managers in a thread that asked dancers what they thought about gowns. It is my personal opinion that gowns went out in 1956 and further that asking dancers what they think about attire is a ludicrous gesture. Be that as it may I was banned and cannot receive communication through this forum. I noticed when I logged on today that I had a message but I can't read it because of the banned policy. If anyone wants to contact me my email address is [email protected]

Mark45Y, after reading why you were banned, there must be some misunderstanding. I am not the moderator that banned you, and as far as I am concerned, since I am one of the moderators of this section too, you can continue to post under Stripping General. A prerequisite for posting in this section IS NOT being in the strip club business. As long as a member DOESN'T enter into blatant arguments with other members, ANY member has the right to post in this section, as long as the post is stripping related.

You can say all you want about strip club managers. We all as dancers complain about them too.

I would recommend Pm'ing Venus and discussing what I just said to you, as she may be willing to correct this situation for you.

The best way to attract dancers is to make sure they are treated fairly, taken care of, and that they are making lots of money. That simple.
