Yeah, I'm gonna stay up for a while to watch...

I thought Jon Stewart's monologue was funny, but "heh-heh" funny as opposed to "ha-ha" funny.

What the hell kind of dress is Charlize wearing? She'll be making lots of "Worst Dressed" lists by morning.

I love Conan! I'd much rather see him hosting than John Stewart.
I hope Reese Witherspoon wins for actress. Walk The Line was a great movie.

I hate to say it, but the show kinda sucked this year.

I flipped to it now and then but I guess I missed all the good parts.

When they played "It's a hard life being a pimp" I just gave up on it. The arts should try to make life better, not decend into the sewer of depravity and exploitation. How cheap.

Memphis in the house! I'm thrilled Three 6 Mafia won an Oscar. What the hell isn't uplifting about that?

I agree with Susan. I was cheering for them. They TOTALLY cleaned up the song, because they wanted to be respected. They had a comparison in the paper yesterday, the real lyrics and the lyrics they used tonight, side by side.

Gavin Hood, director of Tsotsi, the South-African film that won best foreign film, gave an inspiring, emotional, generous and apparently spontaneous speech, partly delivered in Africaans, that kept the focus squarely on everybody except him. Short, brilliant, heart-rending and to the point.

Reese was a strong second, though. She has this almost magic ability to be sweet, genuine and emotionally powerful without seeming to be trite or shallow. It was a performance, of course, but a great, genuine, honest one.

I was very happy to see Crash win. I was deeply moved by the picture long before it attracted any attention. I was pestering everybody I knew to see it when it first came out. Beyond the fact that it took risks by turning PC on its head, it laughed at every assumption the audience walked into the theatre with. Even on the second viewing, after I knew what actually happened, the scene with the little girl running out into the street to rescue her dad reduced me to tears. Once you are the father of a young daughter, your entire reality changes forever.

The Oscars is my superbowl. I was working tonight and of course they had the hockey game on the big screen, but the bartender is my buddy and put the show up on the little bar tv....haha, it was busy for a sunday too (go figure) and I missed most of the show! but bartender actually texted my phone with the acting category winners while i was in the CR. LOVE that guy! hee hee

but goddamn Crash. I wanted my cowboys to get some glory.

edited to say, yes I did see crash in Spring 2005 when it came out, and loved it then, but really, there was emotional resonance with Brokeback that was less contrived...Crash did the same thing Magnolia did ten years ago, but with racism instead of frogs falling from the sky.
