Good question! I have never worked more than 3 consecutive days in a row. I just cant do it! My feet hurt, I'm grumpy. I feel like going out/shopping/indulging, etc. I do have another (day time ) job - but if I didnt, I still doubt I could do it! The bar atmosphere is so draining!

Ask yourself this Optimist. How are you able to work an 8-5 job five days a week and not be able to dance the same amount of days?

Bridgette hit the nail on the head. EVERYTHING she said is true.

If you can work 40 hours a week in a office or store for $500, then you surely can work 40 hours in a club for $1000+, right?
I know I know. But I hated working 40 hours. I'm built for leisure . Truthfully, the only jobs that never had me watching the clock was my counseling job (I was a Psych major) and working in Mom & Pop Jersey clubs. I like hanging with people. These corporate clubs require concentrating on selling not concentrating on having the biggest blast. If I can hang with the boys and just be me and talk about anything it's more fun than having to be sexy. I'm inspired by money but it's not as inspiring in a corporate dancing environment. I can't connect with my co-workers because they think I'm competition, not their buddy. So it's a lonely workplace even though there's a hundred of us . I wanna be a worker bee but I'm just a gypsy looking for a party!

Optimist, it sounds like you need to find some different clubs to work at that more suit your personality, maybe smaller clubs where the atmosphere is more friendly and laid back. The big mega club isn't for everyone.

Even though the Mega clubs aren't as warm I have averaged up to a grand a night there and I could never do that at home because the customer base has declined, most clubs don't have a VIP room, the management and ownership at those clubs are more racist than other parts of the country. So I like people but I'm not crazy . I'm not going to walk from this opportunity. And that's why I'm looking to maximize my potential! So that's why it hasn't been easy to transfer my work ethic in other gigs to this one. But I try, and I try, and I try, and I try--y--y...I can't get no...!

What I've found works for me is a combination of a few things- first off, I'm like Susan-Va in that I work the 12-9 shift (all of dayshift) monday thru friday. Now, if I'm just a little bummed out, I'll go out with some of my girlfriends after work and party and play for a little while and flirt with no intention of taking anybody home and let off some steam. However, once in a great while (I've been doing this for over four years now) I get really stressed out, and so I take an entire day off to relax and recharge and remember the job needs me as much as I need the job.

Right now I'm experimenting with working for 4 to 7 straight and 2 off. It's rough the first few days. After the third day I feel like I'm cruising. As long as nothing outside my work life goes wrong, it works! What I can't get around is relationship crises, spiritual crises. It's too bad family, friends, and boyfriends don't act up according to schedule instead of randomly. But, like Murphy's Law, I see I have to expect derailments from time to time.

Fem, how do you keep from wanting to kill the guys after 6 days? I get cranky and resentful that they demand my attention by the 5th day.

Back when I danced I worked 6 days a week with Sunday being my only day off. I choose that schedule and it worked for me. How I did it, I really couldnt tell you. After about 4 weeks of that I would take like 3 days off then go back to the 6 nights a week thing again. I think it helped to prevent burnout.

For me, if I'm making money I can do it! I was a server for years. When I was in high school I worked 40 hours a week. If I could do that then, I can do it now! Just go, go, go

I think is a combination of how lazy/hardworking you are as a dancer, your motivations to make money, the club's pace, etc.

I make the most money working a 6 to 8 hours shift three times a week, four at most.

In my 4 years of dancing, I've only seen 5 girls doing more than 4 days a week, REALLY working every time they were at the club. I've always noticed that many of the girls that go to the club a lot, spend about two hours on hair and makeup, when they finally are ready, go to bar and sit there for hours, hang out at the dressing room, etc.

Ive been slacking lately, but this coming Tuseday I plan on working every night ( 9-3am) for the rest of the month. Its gonna kill me cuz of morning sickness, then smoke makes me really short of breth. I have an appointment to terminate my pregnancy next monday, and I plan to be back working the next night. I guess it is hard but if I put my mind to it, i can do it like i used to.
Does anybody here work like crazy, even when all ur bills are paid, in advance for the next month, just because they are money hungry? Thats me.

I've had an abortion and I gotta tell you DON'T go back to work too soon. It was very exhausting and I didn't even feel like smiling for a freakin' week. The first two days I slept A LOT. After that I was very down about the decision. I was still happy with my boyfriend but my spirit was crushed! Give yourself time to heal. That money will still be out there.

Yes! I agree with Bridgett on the work week thing!!

I ask every Sat (or Fri, whatever) what each girls schedule is for the upcoming week (need 4 day schedule, we're open 6 days, no house fees ). But I hold em' to it also, dont wig on me in the middle of next week, lol. If ya need a break; ya better know ahead of time, because this really is a job. We count on you, ya know.

    off_topic:
Xiomara, you'll need a few days, the more active you are the more/longer your going to bleed (TMI, sorry)...take the week off and hopefully your employer will understand.
