    Ketosis and Atkins

    Just a question/observation for everyone who has tried Atkins/Lo Carb dieting...
    Did you go through ketosis, and keep track of it? I have those little sticks you pee on (ketostix) and for the last 3 weeks I'd say, I have been in ketosis. The first 2 weeks was due to starvation, because I had pneumonia and wasn't eating or really drinking anything. This last week, I have only been eating foods with no carbs (seafood, cheese, eggs pretty much) and have stayed in the highest level of ketosis. Now.... If you've ever tried the Atkins diet I would love to know how it affected you, negatively or positively. I already have lost about 12 pounds with the diet and also the prior not eating....I'd like to keep losing.
    How hard was it for you to stay on the diet? Thanks

    I found it easy. But it's hard on your body not eating veges etc. I suggest getting to the weight you want then start eating fruit and veges.

    Your body will be used to not eating carbs so what ever you do don't start eating them as soon as you are the weight you want to be because you will put weight on faster than Homer locked in a donut shop.

    I lost 15 pounds on Atkins and loved my body.I lasted 6 months only breaking the coffee rule. I have gained it back this winter by going back to a low carb and sometime pasta ,cheesesburger diet. Been thinking of my small jeans lately, so maybe I'll join you in your fight against carbs.

    The hardest thing I found was once I came off it and then tried to start again the results are never as good as the first time. Not sure why but a few of my friends have had the same thing happen.

    By the way your ass looks fine from here. Not sure what you are worried about

    Huh? Sorry to correct you Jackie, but on Atkins you have to eat 3 cups of veggies a day. And when you start to add in, you don't add in junk..just higher glycemic foods at increments of 5 net carbs at a time.

    I have been low carb for well over a year now and started because of hypoglycemia. It helped me lose 30 lbs and I maintain between 95 to 100 lbs with a bodyfat % of about 17. Before anybody jumps on that, lol, I'm only 5 foot 2 inches with a very tiny frame.

    Silver, I'm surely not an expert, but, being in maintenance for over a year now, I feel I have quite a bit of knowledge on the subject.

    PM me if you have any questions or concerns. And PLEASE eat veggies from the acceptable foods list...you need them to stay regular.

    Oh, forgot to answer about ketosis. Few things to remember. The actual color doesn't matter. If you show ANY color at all, you're in ketosis. If your strips show a darker color, it's usually an indication that you are somewhat dehydrated.

    And don't be upset to find that they don't work at all during your TOM (they don't) or even not at all. They are not always indicative on everyone. You might not be expelling enough ketones in your urine to register which can absolutely happen if you drink a ton of water.

    I started on February 1 and have lost 14 lbs. I use the Keto sticks also. You can stay in Ketosis forever, but you have to watch the carbs because once you go past 50 grams of carbs in a day you will start converting the carbs into fat.
    I eat lots of salads with Tuna, eggs, cheeses, etc. hamburgers without buns. I don't feel hungry and I still lose weight.
    Last weekend I ate some cake for a birthday and 2 pieces of pizza. Up 4 pounds just like that, then back down in three days.
    I also take my vitamins daily.... make sure you do that.
    I also started back with my trainer so I am building muscle (hopefully) and getting the cardio back.

    Make sure you drink lots of water. Those poor kidneys of yours.

    My mum had good results with Atkins.

    Huh? Did you even read the book? You eat carbs like green veggies etc.
