    Default $250,000 Tip!!! O_o

    I got a really really big tip last night: An owned apartment.

    I got an apartment...in the middle of the city...for free.

    I go tomorrow afternoon to pick up the key from the doorman. The owner of the apartment is leaving for a city 1000km away and doesn't need his OWNED apartment anymore. He leaved Monday morning and is leaving the keys for me at the front door. I'm bringing Michael (my boyfriend) with me in case it's sketchy. ^^ But this man really honestly seemed completely serious.

    The apartment is valued at $250,000.

    Plus I got $235 on ONE stage show in tips. And apartment guy made me $350 as well.

    So my earnings last night total?

    $250,650.

    Dude, last night must of been generous everywhere then. One of our entertainers that rarely makes more than 200 bucks had a guy give her 4k last night. Everybody else I heard made 1k or more and I had to pick this weekend for the dog show!!!!

    Any paperwork should be taken to a real estate attorney to be sure you own it free and clear. Then have a search done to be sure there are no liens on the property. Then find out what it costs to insure the property. Then decide if it's more valuable to own or sell it or use it for collateral for another venture. Good Luck chickie

    If you don't have a free and clear deed, you don't have the apartment.

    I would keep my boxes packed up for a quick exit should he come back into town wanting that apartment back if you do not have a deed.

    Can you afford the other fees associated with the apartment? Someone is paying for that doorman.

    Yeah, that makes sense. The dude would be basically letting the bank repo it but figuring well, I'll let her think I'm wonderful and giving it to her. Having the key doesn't mean shit. sounds too good to be true, but hey, you never know!

    As far as I know, and my boyfriend's father works in real estate, the property around Brisbane is skyrocketing in value and an apartment in it's location (Charlotte Street, two blocks from Queen Street, for you Brissies) is going to improve over time in value. I intend on keeping it until it's worth about a mil and then either sell it and buy a house on the outkirts of the city or keep it and live in it forever. We'll see what happens.

    But do you have the deed free and clear? If not - then you either have to take over the payments (which means it ain't as free as you would like to think) or the bank will boot your ass out the door via sheriff's deputies.

    And you can't sell it if you don't have the deed.

    We just don't want you to be in the situation where a couple of sheriff's deputies show up one day with some movers and put your stuff out on the street!

    Seems like you are jumping the gun without getting all the facts.

    If he did give it to you, good for you.(signed deed). If he has the money/apartment to give without a problem. Hurting him financially...etc...

    Seriously though, this whole thing sounds like a lot of information is missing or it is not true.

    For some reason I find it hard to believe some random guy would just hand over his property to a stripper of all people. Either there is a major catch to it, you made it up or there is MAJOR debt that comes with it.

    If it is real and no strings attached... congrats... but I would be super weary of something like this...

    Has he signed over the deed to you? And is it notarized and recorded properly (or whatever the Aussie equivalient is)? I wouldn't be jumping to move into an apt like that if I didn't have the proper papers to back it up.

    It sounds like you don't have any papers on it - you've said nothing about it. Beware. If there IS a large debt on it (remember he could be in deep financial trouble and owe more on it than it's worth - second mortgages, etc), you'll wind up being evicted before long and you COULD lose all your personal property that's in the house as well! Don't be foolish girl.

    Your real estate friend is only making estimates. If you DO have the papers on it, you don't know what it's worth until you have a proper appraisal.

    I hate to sound pessimistic here but what you've said so far really sounds like you're caught up in dreamland and not doing your homework. It's fantastic if this guy really GAVE you (with deed) an apt, but you need to cover your ass. No telling what kind of shady crap this guy could be pulling.

    It's not yours until the TITLE/DEED is in your name. You don't accept any property without going to the courthouse and pulling title/deed on the property first and making sure that the title is clear (with no outstanding mortgages/liens). Do not move in until you know that you are the rightful owner...do not move in until you understand the full conditions of the agreement. Do not move in until you have the deed/title in your hand, signed, notarized and filed with the city/county. Don't make the mistake and ASSUME anything. Have all of the facts, in writing, in your hand before you do anything.

    You also need to know what the taxes are per year and what the condo association fees are. Make sure those are well within your range of doable before you accept, as well!

    Let's not forget possible back taxes. Guy could owe a ton in back taxes, to the point the gov't could put a lien on it and eventually sieze / auction if off to get their money.

    I find it interesting we haven't heard anything in a couple days now.....
