    Default Kombucha tea

This tea rocks! I had a really hard party night last night and took some before going to bed and I instantly felt better and clear headed (as I drove home at 6am).
Has anyone else drank this tea and if you have did you like it?

Its kinda of like lemonade, sparkling cider, club soda and some vinegar tasting. So, some say its an aquired taste.

    I love it!

I have a hard time looking at it while I drink, but I buy it every chance I get.

I brew it at home and LOVE it. I'm always running out of it and have to wait for the next batch to finish. My glass jars are taking over the kitchen.

What are the benefits of this tea?

I tend to look at tea as a medicinal...

Wow..my mum used to brew this when I was a kid! And Meghan, her glass jars took over the kitchen too

I remember drinking it as a kid and disliking it, but I think that was just cuz was quite tart and didn't taste like cordial. This also depends on how long you brew it for though.

I've been looking around for some of the culture to make my own and haven't been able to find it. I think I'll have to ask my grandma, she's the one who gave it to my mum.

It works as an immunity booster (probiotic)...and does lots of great things like helps detoxify your body, prevents yeast infections, helps your skin. These are only a few. It's like one of those all round body boosters.

There is more information at http://www.trib.com/~kombu/index.shtml "The Kombucha Centre"

It's great stuff, but man it looks kinda gross! You can see the process here: http://www.kombuchatea.co.uk/kombucha-fermentation.asp

So where can you buy this tea? At the grocery store?

As an aside, I recently read an article about white tea. I'd never heard of that either.

That stuff looks really interesting...I want to try it. However, my boyfriend would flip if he saw that "brewing" anywhere around the house. My guess is he would insist it was unsanitary and toss it. Hahaha...I wonder if I can find it premade around here at a health food store.

Most organic/natural food stores carry some version of it.

The tea is slightly alcoholic but youd have to drink like gallons to actually feel anything at all. Not sure if it has any caffiene in it at all. I didnt notice any effects after drinking it from caffiene.
I get it from a friend who makes it. Ive seen many stores sell it online.

Btw, I dare someone to eat the mushroom part of it. jk

Thanks.. I got a ready made bottle from Whole Foods and I returned it because it smelled like alcohol. So I thought it was spoiled. Is it supposed to have an "alcohol" smell ? The smell was kinda like fermented juice..

It is fermented juice sorta. You were probably smelling the vinegar spoiled apple juice smell of it. Thats normal. Check the date to make sure though.

If you find it at a health food store the benefits will not be the same, as it will have been pasturised.

I have eaten the mushroom. Once it tasted EXACTLY like a delicious fruit, the 2nd time it tasted exactly like vinegar.
