Default Do you have to really know how to dance?

I really want to be a stripper. I don't have any dancing experience though except for what I do at home in front of a mirror haha. Is knowing how to dance really important or is it something u can learn by watching the other girls? Will they hire u even if u dont really know how to dance as long as u look good? or do looks not matter much compared to dancing?

You'll pick it up belive me its easy! The only dancing I had done prior to stripping was stage diving and slam dancing, lol. I can't speak for every club of course, but it's definatly normal for clubs to hire girls who have no dancing experience (-:

Some clubs I know dont care if you know how to dance as long as you look good. I've been dancing 6 years and I think I can dance pretty well. I still watch the other dancers to see if I can learn a new move. Its really easy to pick up.

i took jazz, tap, and ballet when i was in highschool so i knew what i was doing when i hit the stage for the first time...the thing i had the most fun with was taking what i already knew and made it sexy. if you don't want to look totally wet behind the ears take a yoga class for flexability and find a beginners dvd for strippers.

How does jazz, tap, and ballet prepare you for stripping?

Thanx for the help I have gotten a strip dancing dvd so maybe that will help a little. I'm glad to know that I don't have to dance like a pro to start out.

I would imagine that it helps with coordination.

I still can't dance and I've been a dancer for 4 years. I have no rhythm and I couldn't do a pole trick if my life depended on it.

Just smile and flirt on stage, be comfortable talking/selling, do a decent, seductive (not raunchy) lap dance and you'll be fine.

one thing i would highly recommend...when you are practicing at home, do it in your dance shoes. it's a totally different thing if you are used to dancing in regular shoes and then you put on those stripper shoes and it changes your posture and all that....practice in your stripper shoes.

It's a rhythm thing...there's nothing worse than watching someone with no natural rhythm try to dance (a la some of the people that wanted to by on my college's dance team). It may not be exactly the same thing, but I'm sure it would make it a lot easier.

you know, i felt the same way. but one of my first nights dancing (at my club, at least)..i realized that being a good dancer will not necessarily make you more money. there was one girl who could do splits and amazing ballet-infused dancemoves with the pole, and another girl who did really great floor work..but i walked out with at least $80 more than both of them, and i had just started. its better to work on your vibe connecting with the customers as you dance..look at them (instead of the mirror), smile, and make eye contact.

there really isnt much more to it. the dance moves come with experience.

Don't worry about not having formal training. One tip though is to make sure to count the beats in your head -- if you're too nervous, you might end up dancing really quickly and off-beat, which just looks silly. Thinking "1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4" throughout a song keeps my movements slow and sexy.

one of the best things to do is watch how the other girls move on stage. take the moves and add your own style. the biggest part is to have fun with it. youll do just fine

I think the new girl allways makes money. Cause they are so anxious and nieve. Like the other girls said, you'll get good with time. You dont make any real money on stage. Its just to promote yourself.

It's not important at all. I'm more of a strutter and a poser than a dancer. Like everyones already said, you'll pick it up by observing others. It's more important that you have a good attitude, people skills, and the ability to sell yourself...

Dancing on stage is a lot less about giving the audience something to look at as it is acknowledging back to the audience that you're looking at them.

Get that one down, and you can do pretty much anything you want up there.

LOL, same here! Other girls say I look good on stage, but I don't feel like I do. I don't do any pole tricks (never bothered learning, and even if I did try, I would probably suck.) I feel like I put on a boring stage show and I basically do the same moves over and over again. I hate it when I'm at clubs where I have to do a 4 song set on stage because I always run out of shit to do! Thankfully how good of a stage dancer you are has very little to do with your income.

I was HORRIBLE on stage when I first started dancing (it didn't help my confidence any either when customers kept saying to me "You're new at this, aren't you?"), but I made just as much or more than the experienced dancers because I smiled a lot and made eye contact. If you look like you're having fun up on stage, that's what really matters. No one is going to say to you "I don't want a dance from you because you didn't do anything impressive on that pole." LOL

The best thing to do if you can't dance is to imagine that you're modeling for sexy pics to music, striking sexy poses is the basis of dancing. Mimic sexy poses in men's magazines for example, pay attention to what makes the girl look good? The way her butt looks in different positions etc.

Get comfortable with yourself! When you feel comfortable on stage you'll look good.

I've had dance training, as well...but it never made me a better stripper. I was good because I knew how to communicate effectively. I also rarely "danced" on stage and instead moved my body in sexy ways...learned some pole tricks. Stripping has nothing to do with dancing.

Move sexy & slow, no dancing.

This is a simple way to move as a starter & I hope I can explain this right, lol......

Relax your hips and sway them slowly side to side(move sort of in circles a little bit) and gently stroke the pole as you're going down. making your hair lean towards your face(as you're doing this give the crowd a seductive look)then let your hair fall back. But don't lose eye contact. I hope you get the idea of what i'm trying to say, lol. Practice some sexy facial expressions & seductive body movements in front of a big mirror too. Open your mouth a little like if you're hot(as in horny), then giggle A LITTLE(as if you're thinking about something naughty)& give smile...then right after that eye contact like a mother-f*cker.

I would just like to say that its pretty easy. I mean i dont know a ton of pole tricks, and i dont have the porn star look. but its really not about any of that. every man that goes in there is looking for attention. you could slip and mess up, but as long as you laugh at your self, and then give some guy in the croud the biggest "did you see that! ooops!" face, he is going to come up and tip you, just because you singled him out and made him feel important. I am the biggest cluts ever and liek i said, im not one of the porn star looking girls, but i have style and class and conversation. I make my money, and because im not stuck up and pissy all the time i walk out of there with friends and they come back.

Thumbs up Re: Do you have to really know how to dance?

I have spent time in NYC strip clubs as well as Lincoln Center. If you want to be a successful stripper, the 10 keys to success are:

    1. Attitude
    2. Attitude
    3. Attitude
    4. Boobs
    5. Attitude
    6. Nicely trimmed twat
    7. Attitude
    8. Firm ass

    10. Dancing skills
