    Default Generalizations and Universals

My education tends to push me into statistical generalizations. I think behavior of an individual can be predicted by the group the individual belongs to. Strippers are a group. Very diverse I will admit but still a group. Strip club junkies are also a group equally diverse but still a group.

You could throw Sociology and Anthropology and Psychology out the window if they could not predict the behavior of an individual by knowing the groups the individual belongs to. For example, what group is 97% white and 3% black? The answer is women with boob jobs. So I can predict with almost 100% certainty that if you are a black women you will not have a boob job. The data is 5 years old. Would the same percents apply to strippers? I doubt it.

The fact that being a stripper changes the accuracy of ethnic generalizations I find interesting.

I think if you look at the Margaret Mead hoax you find a perfect example of generalization gone awry. The fact that her fiction is still taught at some Universities is incredible.

Generalizations are meant to be attacked, that’s how you get at the truth.

I am opening up a business here, “The Hello Handsome Man School for Bar Girls.” The ladies are paid to attend class where they are taught English and the skills that are necessary to function as a profitable Bar Girl. After the classroom time they work a shortened shift in the club.

This is not a new idea. It is done all over Singapore where most of the ladies are recruited from small towns in Malaysia and have no idea how to act in the big city let alone what a cat bath is.

What I learn from stripper web helps me create the curriculum for the school. American men are by far the largest single Western male group here and what I learn from the Junkie forum is helpful in directing the ladies how to gain maximum amount of profit.

There is also a large number of young American men beginning to arrive here and I profit from reading the posts of the younger guys on here. The older guys just want a price quoted for services rendered for the most part but the younger guys want to believe there is some kind of emotional commitment. The younger guys seem to have a lot more ego involved. The younger set seem to be looking for a heart of gold while the older guys realize that women who sell sex for a living whether it be lap dances or other things are simply sex workers and don’t expect them to be anything else.

Japanese guys are a totally different market and unless the dancers are prepared for it a lot of them freak out.

I teach the women to identify a male type by age, language and dress and then go into one of ten acts to get a sale. They don’t speak enough English to get a handle on what the guy is really like so I only have surface appearances to guide them by.

I have also had a lot of cultural adjusting to do between Western strippers and Asian strippers. If you think Western strippers are irresponsible as far as showing up on time or having some kind of work ethic you are wrong. Asian strippers have absolutely no concept of time or work for money returned. They take off on a whim or any excuse to have a party and sometimes do not return for weeks. One of the first rules I had to impose was you can’t talk on the cell phone or watch TV while you are having sex.

In case you are wondering, I did not think of the school idea myself. It was in response to women asking me how to meet a Western guy. I live outside of town and there are few foreigners here. I would get asked ten times a day if I could fix women up with an American. I simply do not have enough friends to accommodate them all.

Could the lady members of stripper web profit from my experience? If they want to dance in Japan or Guam I could tell them how to make a fortune. Would they ever ask me? Nope.

Can an American open up a strip club here and make a fortune? Yes, without a doubt. Do 90% of strip clubs and bars opened by Americans here fail? Yes. Why? Because they fail to understand the generalizations that are mostly true about business here. They have faith in their ability to understand individuals. They think they will beat the odds. Odds are a form of generalizations.

I don’t have any faith in my ability to understand individuals. I have faith in my ability to understand generalizations. I can understand strippers as a group and strip club junkies as a group. The fact that there are exceptions to every rule does not negate the rule.
