Default Sugar free sheila and low carb

Okay, so I have noticed that there are a lot of questions about the low carb diets. I am a physiology and anatomy major with a minor in food science. What I've learned in my major is pretty different than the info in a lot of the low carb books. I was taught that we need at least 40-50% carbs in our total diet. So, I'm gonna test it out and see what happens. I gained a few lbs from smoking and have yet to lose it (4 months). I have always been a natural athelete (running, cycling, rockclimbing, weights, yoga etc) plus I've been dancing for about 2 yrs. I'm a decent eater, but I do have a sweet tooth and love to eat out. I want to have that chiseled, athletic look. So I'm gonna do the whole Atkins/south beach where I cut carbs almost completely the first two weeks and so on... I'll let you guys know what happens! Please leave any advice!

check out this site on low carb info. pretty informative! If the girl can lose 40 lbs, I can lose 5 DAMMIT!

You are not doing something right in your work out. You may also want to check your intake of Trans Fats. The smallest amounts of that will kill any chiseled look.

Are you weight training? If you are, please tell me what exercises/routines you are doing and at what weight/intensity. Are you doing cardio? How much and how often?

If you are eating as cleanly as you say you are, then it's in the workout routine...

I would strongly advise that you do NOT get onto a carb restricted diet.

also cut out all "high fructose corn syrup". I was just reading in one of my husbands muscle mags that this is the #1 thing for putting on fat.

also, if you've been doing the same the routine for a while, you're body is probably just used to it. You need to "shock" your body as my husband says. Change up your routine dramatically. Another way to shock it is to not work out for a few days, then hit the gym HARD.

I do a split routine for my weight workout. One day I will do push muscles (chest/tricep/shoulders) with weights heavy enough to make my muscles fatigue at 8-10 reps.

Another day I will do the antagonistic muscles (back, abs, legs). I do about 2 excersizes per body part, 3 sets.

I also do 3-4 days of cardio for 30-40 minuets. (Jogging, aerobics, high incline walking, swimming etc)

I change my workout schedule every couple of weeks.
I've been taking track of my eating habits and to my surprise there are many things sabatoging my efforts! A cookie here, some candy there. UGH!

It's amazing what you find when you keep track of everything that you actually put in your mouth during the day, huh?

Start substituting the sweet tooth with other "healthy" sweets. In a few weeks of that, you may find that you crave the "bad" sweets less and less.

VenusGoddess isn't steering you wrong. My Mom went on low carb and was practically psychotic after two months and wouldn't stop taking every bit of sweets I hid from her for myself.

Exactly. I tried to drink a Pepsi for the first time in over a year about a week ago and I couldn't get it down. So much sugar!!

After a while you completely lose the sugar addiction, it's an interesting epiphany to realize you were so hooked on it. After the first couple weeks it gets easier and sugary stuff begins to taste bad (if thats possible)

What exactly are transfats? I usually try to eat high protien/lower carb, but I'm not on that strict of a diet. Of course I'm not "chiseled" either. I do better than I used to with my eathing though....well, except for a the moment. i'm having an oreo McFlurry, but I'm kind of feeling down. That girl on the sugarfreeshiela site looks awesome by the way.

Oh and that orep Mc flurry that youre eating is: (12oz, small)
    calories: 560
    calories from fat: 150
    total fat: 16g
    saturated fat: 9.0g
    TRANS FAT: 2g
    cholesterol: 50mg
    sodium: 250mg
    carbs: 88
    sugar: 71g
    *no fiber
    protein: 14g

For OP most of working out is eating lifestyle change. Like 80% eating right and 20% working out.

Be aware that the FDA approved food makers to put "TRANS FAT FREE" on their boxes/bags of foods even if the food contains trans fat. Nice, huh? If the food product contains less than .045% of trans fat, then it can be called trans fat free (which makes no sense what-so-ever).

SO...it's extremely important that you READ THE LABELS!!! If you are reading the label, you will not go wrong, they HAVE to list ALL of the ingredients. If you grab a trans fat free bag and flip it over, it should NOT have Partially hydrogenated or hydrogenated anything in it. If it does contain those words, you should put the product back.

Also be aware that the best oil to cook with is Olive Oil. It does not turn solid upon cooling from being heated to a high temperature. The oils that do that (Sunflower Oil, Vegetable Oil) are all liquid forms of trans fat...meaning that when you heat them and then let them cool, they turn into that white-ish solid...trans fat.

Your body cannot break down trans fat very readily...and so all trans fats will be stored immediately. If you are going to indulge in a sweet anything, spend more money and do it the whole food way...buy stuff that isn't made to last for the next 250,000 years on the shelf.

    Take care of yourself!

Okay, so I'm still doing the whole low carb thing. I can argue pros and cons equally well with the low carb deal. I've tried everything else and it just doesn't work as well. I totally agree with Tigersmilk, diet is so important. Especially for me, I'm under 5ft tall and an extra 200 calories a day will sabatoge my weight loss. It's weird, I won't gain weight that quickly but it's nearly impossible to lose anymore weight! I'll keep you guys up to date on my results. I'm getting (hydrostatic)fat% testing next week =(

Oh and Venus is right about not buying "stuff that isn't made to last for the next 250,000 years on the shelf." I used to eat frozen or canned and though its a bitch to have to cook everything, it tastes better! And of course, it's better for you!

Being Asian, you will have a more difficult time getting definition. Our skin is thicker and fattier than that of other races. This means that you will have to work harder and keep a stricter regimen. Do it healthy though! You must be patient because it will take longer, but it can be done.
