On a serious note, yes men are quite welcome to take a belly dance class. Just be very aware that 'traditionally' it attracts women so you may be the first guy in awhile or only guy ever to take the class locally.
If you're wanting to learn how to 'move' and 'free up your hips', why not take up Latin American and/or Ballroom Dancing ? There MUST be a class near you or at least a 'social night' where they have a 'complimentary' one hour lesson at the beginning of the 'social event'.

Maybe trainfinder22 is trying to find a good place to meet women?
Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.
I learned a long time ago there's no sense getting all riled up every time a bunch of idiots give you a hard time. In the end, the universe tends to unfold as it should. Plus I have a really large penis. That keeps me happy.

Yes of course! According to my friend who teaches belly dancing, some of the worlds best belly dancers are men! I remember seeing male belly dancers on tv a few times when I was a kid, I think it just got so popular for women though that everyone forgot it used to be a mens thing too.
By all means go for it![]()

Once again I have embraced my addiction and have put off the moral dilemma to another day.
Contact the instructor first. Some teachers like to teach only women because they are teaching authentic middle eastern dance or some chic-power feminist tribal amalgamation.
I know an excellent male bellydancer here who would be happy to train other males. Its a great workout but make sure you have an instructor who will teach you proper form and technique. My back and abs are very strong but they hurt so much during intense training. It was well worth it...

I'm trying to picture a man belly dancing.. lol too funny! ok but seriously though, if that's what makes you happy then cool
Maybe you'll start a trend.

I am hoping it would at least improve my sex life...my Girlfreind reads Cosmo and then wants me to get into these weird positions like spoons..and other non traditional positions...Personaly I like doing "It the way mammals have done "It" for millions of years... I love her and want to please her not just for sex but for the fact that she is a great cook and I love her for cuddling on the couch after a hard days work on the railroad. I bend over at least 100 times a day and couple railroad cars.....I just dont want to look at her as another railroad car to hook up the air hoses but as a loving yet somewhat demanding human being...Perhaps the Belly dancing classes will get me in shape
If spooning is too exotic for you, then you have a ways to go buddy.Originally Posted by trainfinder22
BUT, this isn't a bellydancer website, try www.bhuz.com.
Good luck!

Personally i think it's awesome when men are confident enough to want to learn to dance. Dance is often thought of as traditionally "feminine", so I love seeing people that are cool enough to break the gender lines. (And as a female bellydancer, I will pimp this dance style out to anyone! It's fun as hell, and great exercise. ^_^ )
Sure, dancing is fine, but there is something very feminine about belly dancing. The movements compliment a womans body.
Trainfinder- I figured you were gay! I can easily see a cross dressing gay man happily belly dancing in full costume. It seems like a natural for a drag queen.
But you mentioned your GF?? Maybe you two can take a belly dancing class together. Sounds like fun to me.
Oh, as a side note, Belly Dancing was begun as an entertainment and fitness program by women and for women. The primary focus was stregnthing the lower body and abs to ease childbirth. That is why it is a female dominated dance.

I hate to be the square, but a guy recently joined my belly-dancing class, and I was not into it. In fact, I haven't gone for the last two weeks partly for this reason, and might go to another class when I start again. I think if the guy in question had really seemed like an eager student of bellydancing, I might have been more tolerant. But he interrupts class frequently to get "clarification" from the teacher about things that are fairly obvious -- I can't tell if he's an idiot or just likes the sound of his own voice a lot. He comes across to me as fairly patronizing: he's the only man present, so of course it's up to him to get everyone in line.Oh, and he hits on the girls in the class. Not all of them seem to mind, but it bothers me. If I wanted a singles-bar vibe, I'd go to one.
Call me over-sensitive if you like. I know I'm not being totally reasonable, and that's why I'm considering changing classes, rather than making a fuss about it with anyone else. But in my defense, I put up with a lot of idiocy from men day in and day out and the girl-only aspect of the bellydance class was something I really loved.
My advice to men who want to take bellydancing is that you'd better really want to learn bellydancing, not to stand in the back of the room and watch girls move in sexy ways. Be aware that bellydancing is a traditionally female practice and that some of the women in your class may be there for that reason. Be hyper-respectful the way you would any other time you are out of your element. And if there is a tall, mean-looking redhead in the back giving you surly looks, she probably wishes you would go home.
I know. I personally would not be attracted to a man that belly dances. That may just be me. But I also like manly men.Originally Posted by unbeleavable
