After several years, I've finally learned that epilators don't work b/c they break hairs rather than pull them out. I suspected this b/c I'd get stubbly 2 days after epilating my arms, legs, and bikini (I could never do it on my face or underarms b/c it would rip up my skin). Finally, I had one arm hot waxed and epilated the other, and I realized that I had been epilating in vain for the past few years. The epilated arm grew in quickly and prickly, and the waxed arm grew in slower and less prickly. Unless you see a bulb at the end of the hair, it's not ripping the hair out. Repeated removal by the root will eventually scar follicles into growing thinner hairs, although fine hairs may get thicker due to irritation (thick hairs like bikini and eyebrows get thinner eventually). An epilator is too fast and most hairs are too weak to be pulled by the root. Hot sticky wax grips the hairs and the pull is slow enough not to break a lot of hairs. Damn, I wish I had known sooner.
