    Default Suze Orman book FY&B

I have been reading this great book called The Money Book For The Fabulous Young and Broke by Suze Orman. It has great step by step money and investing plans for the self employed. If you buy the book and use the access code you can get a free financial plan and and lots of great investing info on her website. I just thought I would pass along the Info to the other $$ minded dancers on this site.

I read this book, and it's okay....but I think it's geared towards someone that's in debt, doesn't have any idea how to save for retirement or buy a house...for the utterly clueless and unstructured.

So....if that doesn't apply to you, it's kind of a waste.

Well, it is called for the Fabulous Young & Broke

I'm still pretty curious about it though. I've read her articles on Yahoo Finance.

I own this book and rented the DVD - think I did a post about it a while ago. She has a few good books out.

Im not sure its for the 'totally clueless'. I think I know a bit about stuff but it did explain a lot in detail what I wasnt sure of.

    Id highly recommend it.

She has a website you can go to if you have the book that has good info too.

They should be teaching this stuff in High School. I've met people who don't even know how to compute compounding interest - the basic method of interest on a bank account!

Of course, we are talking about the financial sophistication of a country that doesn't even know a $2 bill is real money.

^^^ sad but true, Deo. However, the fact that the vast majority of Americans have hundreds of thousands of their dollars invested in US stocks and bonds via 401k's, IRA's etc. and tend to follow the simplistic advice/formulas of 'experts' like Suze Orman actually provides a good opportunity for the rest of us to make money !

They should be teaching it in highschool but they don't. That's why so many people think money is only for paying bills and having fun and end up living paycheck to paycheck, or for dancers, night to night. Many women who start stripping are trying to bounce back from some financial mess (CC debt, student loans, divorce) but without a basic financial education they end up getting right back into one. They aren't stupid (okay, some are), just uneducated.

Books like this are good for providing a basic financial education and can get you on solid ground. From there you can get really curious about investing and decide what's right for you, be it mutual funds or burying gold bars in the ground.

The majority of dancers don't save because they earn cash. it's hard enough to save when you have legitimate income, but since most are living under the radar, it's even more difficult.

You don't need to read a book to know that you should save, ESPECIALLY in our busienss. We all know that the majority of dancers don't plan for a week ahead, let alone for their retirement.....so yeah, I think they are stupid. Sorry to say it, but how can you live your life without even a bank account?

    That's beyond Suze Orman!

my friend has the book, and let me borrow it. it was okay, nothing that I didn't really know.

Note: you don't have to buy the book to access the site. Suze Orman herself said on her show once to just go into Barnes & Noble, copy down the code, and then log on to the site.

My wife got this book and cleaned our credit report right up after a bankruptcy and she does give some good info on starting savings accounts with high interest rates.

There are many dancers that fall in the grey area between being stupid and utterly clueless or well informed investors.

Back in the day we had house moms that kept an eagle eye on dancers, making sure they weren't disheveled, or grinding, or letting customers touch them. I wish there were still someone who took care of not only those things, but informing dancers of financial basics like, put 1/3 of your money aside for taxes starting your first night, have an emergency fund, weather a few seasons of stripping before financing anything. If they chose to be stupid and blow all their cash, well, that's their choice, but I know that kind of basic information could make a difference for a lot of dancers. Instead they're just thrown to the wolves and end up perpetuating the f*cked up stereotype.
