    Default Teeth vaneers and lighting?

    I've searched but I can't find
I recall a thread where someone mentioned that teeth vaneers didn't glow like normal teeth in club lighting, that they just stayed "blank" or something. Can someone tell me if this is true or not?

Ive seen a guy at the club where I work. Every other tooth of his glowed in the blacklight. It was obvious he has some venners.Veneers dont glow like real teeth do. I had to walk away from him to keep myself from laughing in his face because it looked funny everytime he smiled. Maybe they have developed new ones that are just like the real tooth enamel and they would glow like real teeth???

Yep, this is true, save for porcelain crowns - which I have. Don't you have a dentist you can ask? They should know this stuff.

How much does this cost, what this girl had? she looks find before and if it's anything more than $100 or so for the whole mouth I think it seems like a waste of money.

OMG, nowhere near $100....you're looking at around $1000-2000 PER TOOTH and you will probably need 8 or 10 teeth.

Also, lumineers (the brand) are not for everyone. If you have minor flaws, sure, but they can be too bulky of your teeth are all jacked up. This girl just has short teeth. If yours were like mine, they will have to shave more off and use more porcelain to get the right shape.

Lumineers are good, but half of it is getting a good dentist. It's a lot like acrylic nails/. You can have all the best products, but if your nail tech isn't very good, they will look thick, bulky and fake.

hmm, I never new "fake" teeth looked different. I wonder if my new crowns will look "normal" under black light? I don't want to smile and have my two front teeth not be like the rest in a club! lol

I think it depends on the color you get.

If you get just two teeth, they usually match the others. But if you get a mouth full of veneers, you are going to pick very white because you don't have to worry about them matching. But honestly, sometimes you can tell on just one or two crowns. It must be the porcelain that reacts to the black light.

I work in a club now that doesn't uuse black light. Thank god I don't have to deal with the comments anymore.

I'm attaching my before and afters. I really hate this picture, but I just want you guys to know I wasn't kidding when I say my teeth were jacked.....crooked, crowded, underbite, staining, chips, small and pointy. UGH.

Emily I think those look great! They are sooo expensive! I guess there's a lot of things I don't like about me before I'd spend $ on my teeth. I don't even like the way I look when I smile so I guess I never worried about my teeth. You have a beautiful smile and they look great!

yeah, they are very expensive. I was shocked too and I actually cried a little at the dentist's office when they told me. I wanted them so bad and I though that there was no way I could justify the expense (mine were $12,500). I finally did when I started to consider that this is my face. I never smiled. I don't even have pictures where I smiled in them, which speaks volumes. Now I always do. I get compliments daily on my smile. Nobody knows they are veneers unless they work in dentistry. My confidence went way up. While teeth aren't something people don't generally worry about, it's really distracting when someone has bad teeth. And then I realized what I spent on makeup and accessories, and really....the money wasn't out of line, considering there is nothing that will make your face look better than a nice smile. I work in a looks-based business... So...that's how I justified it.

Also consider that this is someone with extensive training performing the procedure, and the veneers cost around $450 each (to the dentist).....so it's going to be very expensive. This also gives you a "warranty" for a few years, depending on your dentist. I know you can get veneers for about $400 per tooth, but I don't understand how. You will surely get lower quality porcelain and who knows about the dentist's training. There is something called the LVI, which trains dentists in cosmetic procedures. Any dentist can do veneers and love to because it's a couple grand for a few hours' work. That training is expensive, but I'll pay for it!

And my income did go up. Not a lot, but it's been shown that people will buy more from people with a nice smile. You come off more trusting and warm. And guys notice. You can go on SCL and see how many times they post about girls with jacked up teeth.

So I bit the bullet and got them done.

sorry this is so long. I have a lot to say on the topic. This is only a tiny bit of it!

    I financed them.

I paid it all 12 months so I wouldn't have to pay interest. I used CareCredit.

If $$$$ is really an issue for anyone right but really really want to improve their smile, without spending several thousand dollars you can either whiten your teeth with the Zoom or Brite Smile in office whitening sytem or do the whitening trays or for a better route, you can get composite veneers instead of porcelain. A composite veneer is what a white filling is made out of and the dentist preps the tooth the same way they would as a porcelain veneer and it's done that day instead of waiting for the lab to fabricate the porcelain veneer type. The only disadvantage of composite veneers over porcelain is they don't last as long. A porcelain veneer will last 10+ yrs, whereas a composite will last 5-7 given you take good care of them; get regular dental cleaning at least every 6 months and most importantly brush and floss, floss, floss! If anyone has any dental questions, feel free to PM me. I'm a dental hygienist and would be more than happy to answer any dental/mouth related questions to help you out or for advice! :-)

I have the composite veneers on my top two front teeth. I had it done about 12 years ago to fix a small gap. I didn't realize they were considered veneers I just thought it was called "bonding." In my entire dancing career I honestly never noticed if they glowed differently.

Composite veneers are a decent option, but they aren't as strong and they stain....plus I don't think they have the same appearance and color variations as veneers that make them look more natural. I mean, a tooth isn't just pure white. Porcelain won't stain.

VP- there is bonding too....that's when that white stuff is mixed at the dentist's office and molded on your tooth...a little prepping is done so it will bond. A veneer is a thin shell that is made out of porcelain in a lab in some far out place...and then the dentist puts it on for you like 2-3 weeks later. it looks like a tooth and it slides on just like a glass slipper.

Apparently it depends on the materials, not all veneers glow the same.

My two front teeth are porcelain crowns; I knocked them out when I was 11. When I had a temporary after losing one, it did look weird in the blacklights, and it was composite. However, the two crowns I have now look perfect and completely match my teeth in the blacklights. These two crowns cost about $2700 but since they were necessary dental work and I have fine dental insurance, most of it was covered. Also, since my dentist is married to my uncle's ex-wife, they threw in a Zoom bleaching for free.

In Texas I've known a couple of girls who went down to Mexico to get veneers and they got them much more cheaply (before you laugh, there are some fine dentists down there and it's pretty common for people in South Texas to cross the border to get work done).

Anyhoo, I would like to second what Emily said about the importance of good teeth. I was so excited with my gorgeous new crowns that when I left the office, I said, "This must be what girls feel like when they get their boobs done!"

Temporary crowns aren't made out of composite, at least as far as I know of. They're made out of acrylic, yes, the same stuff that goes on fake nails. I'm sure there are some good dentists in Mexico, but if the person can afford it, I'd really strongly advice getting the dental work here. It made be cheaper but you do get what you pay for. Anyone can slap a veneer, a crown, a filling on anyone's teeth but you want to make sure you know what that person is doing because I've seen some bad dentistry before with big open margins that trap plaque and food causing a new cavity under it, making you have to get a brand new one, and these were done in the US.

Just like when it comes to getting your boobs done. You can get a boob job at a really cheap price but does that cheap price mean just as good of a boob job? Perhaps, but the chances go way down and when it comes to having work done on your body, it's always best to throughly check out the person's credentials before you let them do work on you.

I personally, would only have work done in the US and only go to people by recommendations of someone I know. You don't ever want to just pick someone out of a phone book or go to someone just because you know they're be priced much cheaper. Just my personal opinions and what I'd do.

i saw something on extra a while back that instead of going through the surgery or whatever, they came up with teeth that you can remove, just like halloween teeth but of course much nicer.
