I had a hour long converastaion with my contact at the IRS. Turns out that her sister worker at a club for a couple of months...The IRS is not intrested in going after dancers and I was assured that filling out this form would not entail them or red flag dancers to back taxes for not filling. By Filling out this form this only affects the employee relationship between you and your employer. The employer can not fire you for filling out this form. I have yet to determine if by filling out this form if it makes your club have to pay back pay or not..
There are two federal cases in West Virgina of Exotic Dancers that I was able to find on Lexis-Nexis more on those later

It's all well and dandy that they have that form, but I doubt if I take it in to work they'll just completely revamp their system . . .

How you all like the government's idea of relaxing disclosure rules and allowing your tax preparers to sell your information?

Ah America. Well, if you don't have anything to hide - I guess it shouldn't matter eh?

Today. But, tomorrow they might be, or in a different region they might be. I worked in Indy when the IRS got interested in dancers and wait staff. They hit a whole bunch of people with assesments. Club and restaurant owners were "convinced" to start witholding on tips and estimated tips for wait staff. Credit card transactions lead to W-2s or 1099s and witholding as appropriate. Cash, was still largely under the table.

MY contribution to this was posted at this link -- http://www.stripperweb.com/wiki/User_talk:Threlayer

But lots of dancers much prefer to work under the table, with all the penalties involved.

And, No, I don't mean under the table that way; that is only a fantasy.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

NOTE: anything I post here, outside of a direct quote, is my opinion only, which I am entitled to. Take it for what you estimate it is worth.

I'm new here and this is my subject of concern. My daughter recently started dancing and quit her regular part time job. She gets paid only the money she gets from customers plus a comission on drinks she solicits from customers (more than 4 per shift). BUT, she also pays a $25 fee at the beginning of the night to dance AND has to tip out the bouncers at the end of the night.

Is all of this standard practice? If so, doesn't this qualify her as a "sub-contractor"? Does this mean she owns her own business? How does this affect taxes? YIKES! She needs help!

yes, legally speaking, she is the operator of an independent contractor business. From a tax standpoint this means filing a 1040ES with a check for estimated federal taxes due to the IRS every three months, and also means filing a 1040 tax return with Schedule C (profit or loss from a business) by April 15th for the previous year's earnings. Tip money received from customers is reported under receipts on Schedule C. Kickbacks from drink sales may or may not be legal under your state's Alcohol laws - if they are legal then they also get reported as receipts on Schedule C. The $25 per night stage fee plus the nightly tipouts are deductible business expenses on Schedule C.

The state of Wisconsin has separate forms to file for quarterly estimated state taxes (form A-115 ?) and for end of year tax return (form 1 ?)
