Default When the DJ is in a mood...

I worked last night with a DJ who seems like a nice and friendly guy, but he seemed to be in quite the mood. One of the most beautiful dancers I've ever seen gets off stage, and he plays "Who Let the Dogs Out" as she's collecting tips. Then just a few minutes later, he put on "The Lapdance Is So Much Better When the Stripper Is Crying," and went off to take a break while the WHOLE SONG played. The rest of the night, he treated us to such tunes as "Back Off Bitch" and various other insulting songs. He was also playing everything so excessively loud that my throat is still sore 24 hours later.

Big surprise that I left in a foul mood at midnight with $40 in my pocket.

It wasn't totally his fault, but he damn sure wasn't helping! Why do they do this?

Actually it sounds to me like it was almost entirely his fault. He's probably a rookie who doesn't understand the club hierarchy. It's everyone's responsibility to make everyone else look as good as possible, so everyone can make more money. He probably learned his lesson by getting (if he was lucky) a begrudging $10 tip from each of the girls and the finger from quite a few of them. I had a guy "guesting" for me one night who did basically the same thing while I sat back and watched. After about 2 hours he got booed out of the booth and I retook my throne with a smile. He'll learn (if he hasn't already), so don't get too discouraged. If he keeps it up, inform the management that if you wanted to go deaf and go home broke you'd knock a couple of teeth out, get pregnant, and become a truck stop waitress...

I get the vibe it's the opposite problem - he's been at it so long, he doesn't give a shit.

He made $5 from me. That's not being stingy; I just didn't have it to give. I think the night was just a combination of his ugly mood and the bad Monday-night crowd. I remember now why I don't dance on Mondays.

Most clubs that I've worked at don't even think it's worth it to have a Dj on Mondays. They always suck, with the consummate exception of 3 day weekends of course... Just look at the guy and tell him "Look, you might not give a shit; you might have job security up the ass, but as for those of us who actually get out there and WORK for a living as opposed to push fucking buttons and talk, it would be nice if you at least ATTEMPTED to do your job well so we could look good!", or something to that effect. The guy sounds like a complete tool. Mind you I'm a DJ myself, so I'm not knocking the job. I just know who does the real work in a club!

...which dj was this, yek? wait a minute wasn't that me he played who let the dogs out for when i got off stage? last night when i was done he played 'been caught stealing' and it has the dogs barking at the beginning.....grrrr, wtf??? i chewed his ass. that was sean (i think that's his name) the one with the long hair....
if it's gerald, he always plays retarded music. it sucks b/c i feel like a lot of times it runs people out.

let's see, some of his most-played break songs are "at a medium pace" or whatever it's called, the adam sandler song about the shampoo bottle in the ass and whatnot. funny song but damn. he knows every word and sometimes plays it 3 times or more in a day!! and the peanut-butter-jelly song. of course on that one i can't say much b/c i've made him play it, and last night i had him play it twice back to back b/c it's so short lol.

then he'll play shit like "you light up my life" and constant gay country songs. of course there are the regs. who request "i love this bar" and he'll play it for like every break song while they are there.

as i said the other day, i'm not well-liked by a lot of the girls there, and i wouldn't be surprised if they had him play the doggie songs while i'm collecting tips. bitches.
Oh, I musta took a wrong turn at Albuquerque.

Yeah, it was Gerald, and he was doing all of that the other night. From 10 to midnight, all his break songs were Shania Twain or Leanne Rimes. Seriously, people were leaving because of it. He wasn't doing that last week when I was there, but I'm not keen to go back if he's going to keep doing that. It's not worth driving an hour each way for.

i think he's a sweet guy, i really do but his break song choices are just wrong. and customers do leave b/c of it sometimes and most of the girls complain about it too. sometimes i have requested a specific break song so he won't play something gay. looks like i'll have to start doing that again...

Christ, I've seen a lot of rotten DJs, but this guy sounds like a contender for the top ten worst list...

Intelligence has never been much of an asset to being a stripclub DJ, lol...

But sometimes you get the ones who are really, really dumb. While I still prefer them to the arrogant asshole type DJs, it can be annoying if they are the other one working in your club--or if you are a dancer having to deal with them as well, I'm sure.

Actually i think all DJ's will have their moods at some stage. I know i had a big one Friday nite.

We are in the middle of our big Australian car race the Clipsal 500 [which happens to be bigger than the Australian Grand Prix in Victoria]. Anyway the club is full and i mean full, if we knocked out one of the wall we could have stuck another 300-400 people in.

Anyway my podiums lights have blown and i have to fix them while i have a showgirl onstage. I think i've worked out the problems and monitor the lights while also watching the dancer on the main stage. She has a hissy fit at me cos im not looking at her and talking on the mic. That starts the nite off well. I eventually fix my lights but all this got me in a mood, it was all down hill from there. I wont bother you with further details cos im not happy with how i came across. So lets just say i had to do some apologising at the end of the nite.

Well im going to get some sleep cos Saturday nite will be a bigger night. More people, more idiots, and hopefully no princess' to get me in a mood.

it's not a mood. he has played gay, stupid and crap music as long i've been there, that's been almost 3 years now on and off. i don't know why they don't do something b/c the girls complain about it alot. i do know that some of the stuff, like a lot of the country, is b/c some customers will request it. well, i *thought* that but the other night someone told me that this one guy once requested "i love this bar" and tipped him to play it, and that now everytime that guy comes in gerald plays it automatically and then goes over to the guy expecting him to tip him. unfortunately he keeps tipping him, he's a generous tipper to all the girls and bartenders so i guess he doesn't mind, but i don't think he actually requests it anymore. yup. that's just gerald.
yekhefah if you go back the thing to do if it really bugs you is to request a specific break song after your set...i don't think there's much we can do other than that maybe we can tip him to NOT play any crap, lol.

Bikinigirl, if Gerald is burned out and wants a break, my bf is volunteering for some of his shifts. He's a brilliant DJ and he wouldn't mind a little more practice at the strip-club thing. Think Donna would go for it?

LOL! We're both heading out of town soon for work, but when we get back I'm definitely going to look into it. He actually volunteered, which is encouraging. It would be fun to work with him; he actually gives two shits about the music and making the girls look good!
