Rather then just a intresting way to pay the bills. Do You do what you do because you have to pay for school and the rent and when you finally make get your degree you will throw yourr dance shoes away or Do you enjoy being a public performer and being in show buisness? Would that answer be different if you were working in high contact full nude clubs or working on stage. Is it surviaval or a God Given Vocation?
I did a paper on Lucile Ball and she left Jamestown NY for New York City with a few dollers in her pocket at the end of the Depresion with the drean of being a showgirl
I even saw in the archives some nude modeling that she done... Clealry that woman had dream and worked hard to make it come true. How many women out love show buisness and acting and dancing and look at work in the "Gentlemans Clubs" as a entry level steping stone to being a "Star"...

I like it. A lot. So what if it's short-lived. If you were good enough to play for a few years in the NFL, would you do it? Probably. That's where my head is at.

I like my job as well, not sure if it would be my first career choice, as Emily said it is short-lived, so its great for now, but I definitely don't wanna be doing this 20 years from now. *plus, i don't think any of y'all are gonna want to see me dancing after 20 more years!* lol

if i'd known it was an option, i would have considered it during college. in fact, i might have finished college had i been able to dance my way through it.

I'm in college right now and have 1 year left. After I'm done with college, I'm going to be a feature dancer. I'm starting with training and competitions this summer. So yes I like my job, because even though I'm going to have 2 bachelor degrees after next year, I'm still staying in this business. I love performing and dancing and being on stage. While this is a shortlived career, it's fun while it lasts. Like Emily said, football players can only play the game for a short period of time before they reach retirement age, and that's also how I look at it. I'm only 20 right now (I'll be 21 when I graduate and get into featuring full time) so I have 10-15 years ahead of me in my feature career. Once I hit retirement age, I'm planning on going back to school for my Master's degree, having kids, etc. I love the freedom that this job has, in regards to travel, scheduling, etc, and I want to do it for as long as I can.

I enjoy my job a lot. Actually, last night the manager of the club told me he loved it when I worked b/c I made him happy by MY being happy, lol. But as a career, no, not forever. I will graduate my school soon, and will begin my career as a massage therapist/ESL tutor/dancer. 2 careers, one temporary career, ya' know?

ME! I love stripping and will milk it for as long as possible - I just wish I'd started sooner rather than later!
I work in a no contact club which is great. I have worked in a "light" contact enviroment which I didn't mind. I love dancing on stage most of all, it's a good buzz (-:

I started dancing after I finished my Master's degree and had an established career. Right now, it's for love and money equally. I wish I had started while I was younger and in college; it would have made my life so much easier back then. (I waitressed 60 hours a week and maintained a 3.85 GPA with a full courseload to avoid student loans.)

But no, I don't want to still be doing it 15 years from now. I won't have the body for it and I don't want to ruin my knees with those shoes. And hopefully by then my career will have taken off enough to keep me fully occupied.

What's a first career choice? Careers are ALWAYS compromises between money and enjoyment.

Without compromising? Okay, my first career choice is then independently wealthy dilettante novelist. Or independently wealthy naturopath. I'd work two days a week for the sake of doing something good, and go to nice restaurants a lot. I'd probably dance once a month for variety.

Does ANYBODY actually WANT to work more than a little? ;P

I love it! I get to be me and make tons of money at the same time. It gives me so much freedom. It's helped me create my back up plan when I finished my BA in PSY. NOw I hope to use it to get my Masters, and do it without having to take out student loans that would put me in debt for the rest of my life! I'm going to milk it as much as I can!!! I am so grateful that GOD has blessed me with the ability to do this.

It is totally my first choice. I have quit more than once to work as a real estate agent as well as promotional modeling. I just love being on stage the best. I start feature dancing in June and really look forward to it. It has been my goal since the first time I saw a feature. Yeah, there are bad weeks, but that is just like any other job.

Damn it I wish I was a woman so I could love my job. Yes if I could have played in the NFL for a few years I would have!

It is my first choice. I have a college degree now and could have a "real" 9-5 but why would I? If I can have fun and not dread going to work, make decent money, and the worst part is fatigue and sore muscles, then I think it's a good job. A lot of people think girls get forced into it somehow, and don't want to be there.

I get to dance to music I like, wear cute outfits, chat, and spend time with coworkers I actually like, then go home with cash. I wish I had started dancing at 18. I might be able to stretch it out though since I look 18 now even though I'm 24.

My guess is that most strippers feel pretty much the same about their jobs as the rest of us do. How many of us would do what we do if we weren't getting paid for it? As someone else said earlier, for most of us it's a compromise between doing what we enjoy and earning money. Why should strippers be any different?

I know you're supposed to hate dancing and "want out" but for the most part, I love what I do.I have always been a night person and I don't really care for structured enviornments. As a dancer I show up and leave when I want plus I leave with an ego boost and a fist full of cash. What's wrong with that? I have had "real jobs"...everything from modeling(not so glamorous) to real estate (tedious)...and I've gone to school(boring)....The only problem I see is what to do when you are too old to dance.

there was a point when I enjoyed dancing - but the competing with the dancer whores in Tampa (there are a TON of girls willing to do anything for a buck here), and the ever increasing customer base of SCUMBAGS has soured my attitude dramatically.

I am looking forward to quitting for good. It's a shame - because I enjoy dancing... but not what the industry down here is morphing into.

i won't lie, i wouldn't be doing this if i weren't putting myself through school. i have fun sometimes, but mostly i hate the job. i don't let it show to the customers, but i can't wait to get out. i will miss the stage (performing/dancing) and some of the people i've worked with, but i won't miss the bullshit, the hussle, the catty bitches, or 95% of the men. i think of it as a job like anything else. i've had other shitty jobs where i made MUCH less money, so at least this way i'm able to pay my bills. i'm in tampa like belle who just posted. maybe a lot of it has to do with this area. i don't know.

I'm on my 3rd year dancing , while I love the freedom and money, I'm starting to feel ready for a change. The negatives are starting to outweigh the positives and I feel that in whatever you do, once you feel that shift, it's time to move on. However, I am really thrilled that when I do quit completly, I can look back at it with fond memories.. Leaving on a high note is hard but it's better than looking back and wishing you had done things differently. I have my bachelors degree , and while I don't see more school in my immediate future I just feel its time to focus my energy elsewhere. But for the time being "I'm a bonafide hustla"!!! Gettin it while the gettin"s good.

Here's how I see it. If you get into dancing from the get go with the right attitude and with mentors to help you get the most out of being a 'career' strippers (doing it for 8+ years) then why the hell not? Then again, if you truely are a 'career' stripper, imo, then one would be willing to move to an area/town/county where you would be able to make the most out of your career.

At the same time, some 'career' strippers may not be willing or able to move however if they are open enough to travelling for work they can also make this work for them as well.

The majority of people use this as a stepping stone. I know I am. I wouldn't think of myself as a career stripper even tho' I am trying to use this business for all its worth (as such) in order to get me ahead in the end (so that I can start to do what I really desire).

My only regret (well it isn't a real regret) is that it took me 2 years to get myself together to a point where I could take advantage of this business (and I've been doing it nealry 5 years now).
