Default Texas arresting people in bars for being drunk...

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Reuters) - Texas has begun sending undercover agents into bars to arrest drinkers for being drunk, a spokeswoman for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission said on Wednesday.

The first sting operation was conducted recently in a Dallas suburb where agents infiltrated 36 bars and arrested 30 people for public intoxication, said the commission's Carolyn Beck.

Being in a bar does not exempt one from the state laws against public drunkenness, Beck said.

The goal, she said, was to detain drunks before they leave a bar and go do something dangerous like drive a car.

"We feel that the only way we're going to get at the drunk driving problem and the problem of people hurting each other while drunk is by crackdowns like this," she said.

"There are a lot of dangerous and stupid things people do when they're intoxicated, other than get behind the wheel of a car," Beck said. "People walk out into traffic and get run over, people jump off of balconies trying to reach a swimming pool and miss."

She said the sting operations would continue throughout the state.
For some reason I found this story hilariously funny. I kept thinking of Ron White.

How do they define drunk for the purposes of "public intoxication," I wonder? By behaviour, or by alcohol level?

I had to sign a little card in Bennigans at the Galleria in Dallas (2004), that I had to keep for this purpose. I had never heard of such a thing. If I didn't sign, i couldn't order my Paddy-O-Punch!!!

How can something like this even get off the ground....

Funny they could just patrol the main roads near the bars and breathalize all the drivers like they do in Australia. Do a big campaign... you drink and drive your a bloody idiot. It would be more effective than this shit. That is if they realy want to keep drunks off the road.

No seriously though, maybe its to cover their asses or something, cuz it sure won't boost alcohol sales, IMHO.

LOL, that reminds me of a time when I was 21. I was at a regular bar with my boyfriend at the time and I got kicked out "for being too drunk." I wasn't fighting, causing problems, puking, or doing anything wrong, I was just drunk. All I was doing was talking to my boyfriend. My boyfriend lived within walking distance from the bar too, so we were both walking back to his place afterwards. This bar also had a sign saying "Intoxicated people will be asked to leave." I saw people in there way more drunk than I was and nothing happened to them. They just picked certain people there to pick on.

^^ I would wager that was a case of BlondHottie, being so hot, no guy could stand you being there and not with them, and no girl wanted you in there cause you were too hot to handle.
