Okay, so as a lucky sufferer of IBD, I was slightly intrigued by the commercial for Dannon's new yogurt, "Activia." Today, I checked it out at the grocery store and the active ingredient that supposedly "aids in regularity" is called "bifidus digestivium."
It sounded like a gimick to me, so I bought my regular yoplait yogurt instead, and came home to research Dannon's supposed new strain of live cultures. This is what I found:
http://www.bifidusdigestivum.com/bifidusdigestivum.php
"The source of "bifidus" is probably from the intestinal bacteria bafidobacterium bifidum. "Digestivum is an invented word, which uses "digestive" as a root to suggest beneficial effects on digestion, combined with the latinate ending "um" to suggest a scientific derivation.... also known as "bifidus regularis" where regularis emphasises being "regular" and "is" suggesting a scientific derivation."
Basically, its the same cultures found in any yogurt. The lesson here : be a smart consumer -marketers are out to trick ya and take your money![]()
