I'm new to this site and I have a question. I read somewhere that the outfits you wear should repesent normal clothes and not be dancer looking. I was wondering if this was true. If someone was wearing a costume for a certain theme I think it would make it all the better, not to extreme however. What are the opinions on this?

As a general rule, I don't personally agree with that. But for a specific theme it could work well.

I don't wear any "costumes" but I surely do have dancer like clothes. Though most of my outfits are lingerie type sets. I like it and I feel most comfortable in them. Do what makes you feel most comfortable!

Where on earth did you read that? Stripper clothes are a breed of their own, and you can spot clothes not made for the purpose a mile away. Now, we're not wearing Vegas showgirl headdresses or anything, but the whole point of us is that we're wearing stuff that's tighter or shorter or clingier or sheerer than "normal" clothing.

That being said, there is a huge, huge variety in what you can wear to dance in, everything from floor-length gowns to neon bikinis, so it's just a matter of finding things that flatter you and fit your personal style.

Totally true! Hell, when I was starting out I bought one pants set, made a couple of sparkly skirt sets and found crap at wal-mart to wear for hustling on the floor. It's all about personal style. Nobody expects you to drop a grand on special stripper clothes when you're starting out. Go through your closets, you might find that you already have things to wear.
