    Sad Learning Hair/Makeup

I have the unfortunate problem of not knowing how to do my own hair and makeup. I'm interested in becoming a dancer but I'm not going to get anywhere very quickly without knowing how to go really glam with my look. I LOVE the super glam Pam Anderson kind of look but I have no clue how to achieve that on my own. If anyone would be willing to help me out or give me links or something I'd REALLY appreciate it. If I do end up dancing I want to be an 8-10 not just some average looking 5-7. Much love and thanks so much!

You can try www.makeup411.com for tips and tutorials. I'm like you, I can do other people's hair and makeup awesome but when I try it on myself It looks like garbage. If you really practice you can get the hang of glam makeup....I did. Hair I never figured out.

also, for tutorials. if you have the money, book an appointment for a makeup artist to do that sort of look on you. i think it costs $40, but is redeemable in product. glam makeup IMO consists of smokey eyes, fake eyelashes, bronzer and glossy lips.

Go to the makeup counters at a department store and look at all the women working behind the counters and find one who's style of makeup you really like, and have her do your makeup for you. I've always had good luck with MAC and Lancome.
Take the road less traveled- just make sure you have a map.

www.makeupalley.com is also another good website... I avoid any mention of my dancing on the site though, lol, in case some people might judge. The other 2 forums and sites mentioned are great too. I got lucky, because I have a friend who is a makeup artist who taught me how to do that Alexis Vogel/Pam Anderson/Porn star look. Takes me a freakin hour to do my makeup sometimes. Go to a MAC counter or store and get a makeover and tell them what kind of look you want and pay attention.

As far as lashes go, that takes practice! You can order in bulk for cheap on www.madamemadeline.com- some porn stars use Andrea 105 lashes and double up (put 2 strips on each eye). Duo glue in clear is a good one to use for your lashes, they sell it at MAC too.

Alexis Vogul(sp?), the one that comes out in the informercials. It looks glammed out, the look a dancer needs.

Honestly, I don't think guys go for all that crap. I've noticed that the girls who try to hard to look "perfect" are the ones who aren't making any money anyways.

But anywho, I suggest all 3 of the makeup tutorial websites mentioned.

Go to MAC, tell them up front what kind of look you want: IE: Pam Anderson/stripper glam...if you buy a few products they'll do it on you and teach you how...that's my suggestion.

Look online, plus find a pic of how you want to look and try to do it. Practice is the only thing that will help. Also go to any makeup department store and the people working there will help you out, even show you how to do stuff hoping to make a sale. Specialy a beautie product store like Sally's or something.
When i got sick of paying too much for hair cuts and dye I went to Sally's and told the worker what i wanted to do to my hair. She helped me pick a few tools and color to use and now it cost me about $20 when I want to cut and dye my hair.

Late makeup artist Kevin Aucoin's books "Making Faces" and "Face Forward" are very informative.

For hair, a really simple glam look that I use is just putting in hot rollers. My hair gets body and a little curl, and it lasts all night at work. Just put in some sort of heat protection stuff beforehand, then put in the rollers with the biggest ones on bottom in back to the smallest ones on top in front, put on some flexible hold hair spray, and viola! You can leave the rollers in while you do your make-up, and it saves time.

I am inclined to agree with this. Not only are they the ones that are not making money, they are also the ones that don't work the floor, and bitch about YOU making money while they get high or whatever with thier friends in the dressing room all night .......
