I read about the Rich Dad, Poor Dad book on here and bought it. I loved it and now there's a related seminar happening here in my city. Has anybody been to one? The author isnt going to be there...

I haven't been to a seminar, but I did hear the following about his program. First, he's a great motivational speaker that will encourage you to get off your butt and do something about your goals. However, he provides very little direction or instruction on how to accomplish financial freedom. Second, he downplays the value of education. Also, from the program that I recently watched, he appears to highly encourage real estate investments. I'm not sure if you really want to go this route given the current economic indictors. However, the course seems to be a good review of the basics.

Oh, here's a link so you can make an informed decision. Scroll down to the Criticism Section. I would recommend you borrow the book from the library and skip the seminar.

I already read the book and went to the seminar. It was free and basically a 12 hour long informercial. Like I said, the author wasn't there, and by the end of the 12 hours... apparently they were going on for another 3 but I couldn't take it anymore. I don't suggest it to anyone. Especially not if you're bad with money (I saw way too many people drop $500+ in a split second on their products without giving it any thought). A lot of filler but absolutely NO substance.
I just read the critisism. The entire seminar (and admittedly, even while reading the book) I was thinking about what fantastic salesmen these guys are. They're amazing at selling an idea. I'm not so sure about anything else. People are so eager to drop a lot money on their crap to learn how to get rich when they aren't offering much good advice. But they sure are making a lot of money....

These books serve as a great primer to get you into the right 'mind set'. That's where their value lies, imo. I used the books as a start... then purchased other books (ie "Think and Grow Rich", "One Minute Millionaire", various books from Trident Press, etc).
As for encouraging you to invest in Real Estate... I personally think that if you are armed with the right information then any time is a good time to invest in RE. It may take some time to 'hunt' down the real good investments however they are and always will be out there.
The reason why, imo, RE is used as a good starting place for investing is due to the equity you can acquire from the homes. You can use it to fund more loans so you can acquire more properties. You can also use the equity to get into the stock market and/or buy positive cash flow businesses.
I bought the Cash Flow board game a few years ago now. I do not regret buying it as it really is a great learning tool if you want to gain some knowledge into how to get out of the rat race and onto the fast track.
I only attend seminars where I will receive some decent relevant information not motivation. If I want motivation, I have plenty of CDs, books and websites where I can acquire that... so I do not see the need to attend a seminar.

Are you talking about the Learning Annex seminars that have a link from the Rich Dad website?

My husband and I are attending the one in LA on April 8th with Donald Trump, Magic Johnson, Suze Orman, and Robert Kiyosaki. From what I understand, the other speakers try to peddle their own products after their seminars, but at least it gives you exposure to other methods of making money in real estate besides flipping and landlording. I'm personally interested in discount notes.
