In all seriousness though, I look at myself as an exotic dancer. Yes, we all talk to customers, dance alike, dress alike, but I think it's all in how you carry yourself. "strippers" the ones at my job are usually loud and in cliques. "Exotic dancers" usually work alone, and are making their money by more slow sensual moves while on stage and on the couches.
No one get offended here: But IMO "strippers" walk around in skimpy clothing (ie. booty shorts, hell thong bottoms and bra tops) and leave absolutely nothing to the imagination.
Some Douchebag: "[Pimp C] 12:43 am: its true we got to stick together the black people on SW CK you is teh condoleeza of SW"
I don't think there is any difference
just like "stewardess" and "flight attendant"
or "secretary" and "administrative assistant"
it's just another way to say the same thing that appears to be more agreeable

What is the difference between a janitor and a janitorial engineer?

^^^^^Exactly. I think stripper is used perjoratively by some people but there's no big difference in my book.

There are two school of thoughts on this one:
School 1: An exotic dancer is someone with talent and skills whereas a stripper is someone who lacks talent and skills (and also usually isn't interested in 'improving' themselves)
School 2: Just another word to describe what we do as per previous posts above.

Or what's the difference between a housewife and a domestic engineer?Originally Posted by dlabtot
Although some people may feel that one term is preferable to another, there is no discernible difference between a stripper and an exotic dancer. Unless you don't remove any clothes for money and you don't perform any sort of lap/private dancing. Even then it wouldn't be called "exotic dancing."

i always thought that exotic dancer tended to be more of a term for a nude dancer rather than topless, don't know how i came up with that distinction. personally im not fond of the euphamism for either. i think "dancer" is suggestive enough. or just call me a stripper!! im not ashamed!!

I agree completely. Stripper, Exotic Dancer, Entertainer, Dancer... all the same to me.Originally Posted by Emily

If you say exotic dancer, it sounds like you're being pretentious (if that's even possible in our profession.)
I just say stripper....although I had someone accuse me of not being one because I identified myself as such since, "real stripper would never call herself that."![]()
they are the same to me, exotic dancer just sounds better to some people i think. either way you are doing the same thing--stripping.
Oh, I musta took a wrong turn at Albuquerque.
howdy ho, junior rangers.
I say I'm a dancer and leave it up to the other person to figure it out. If they aren't really a part of my life I don't tihnk it' matters if they know what I do.
It just sounds better, stripper is more of a derogatory term in my social circles for some reason. I use the word on here or in the club, but avoid using it anywhere else.
Dancer is sufficient.
Please don't lick me, it tickles..
i like dancer rather than stripper for sure...

it's just a word preferance. where i work the managers call us exotic dancers. i actually got in trouble for referring to myself as a stripper in front of a customer. who cares?

no difference at all
like garbage man and sanitary engineer.
yeah baby I know it

As a dancer-dancer and not an exotic dancer, when I get asked about my profession and say that I'm a dancer, peopel often say:"Oh, you're a stripper, then." My usual responce is "No, I'm just a dancer. A stripper is an entertainer, athlete, PR agent, sale person and therapist all in one. At least the good ones. As for me, I just dance."
In my mind, stripper is a title you earn.
But that can just be the fangrrl in me talking, as I seriously admire you girls.
Sorry this post is completly irrelevant, just had to say it.

we used to get in trouble for saying stripper or exotic dancer at scores so we were entertainers
When someone ask's me what i do for a living First i say "dancer' Then for Like's of me i dont know why .... "Ballarina" comes out of there mouth . I went through this three times in my life and each time i answerd " No i take my panties off as in exotic dancer" , lol my mom loved it the last time me and her went out to dinner when some nosey waitress kept getting our order's wrong .

It really depends on the intent and underlying tone of voice.

Oh, it's possible. It's possible.Originally Posted by Emily
