    A little iffy...

I'm a little iffy about something... A week ago I went to a strip club where an aquantance's girlfriend worked. I went to ask the manager about questions on how to become a dancer. I was supposed to meet with one of the owners and when I got there, she wasn't there, but I talked to another employee. They told me all about the licencing and how they let the girls dress, wear, look, do whatever they want because they don't want to pressure them. I told her I didn't have the money for the licence fees or the police check and that I noticed they needed wait staff (a sign on the door). I told her that I have never waitressed before and she offered to talk to the owner about me waitressing until i have enough money to get the licence.

I leave armed with some answers and then later, the lady I was supposed to meet me calls me back again and asks me to come in to meet her and was sorry she didn't show up. I go back (my husband driving me half an hour away) and when I get there, she isn't there again at the proposed time. I meet with the manager who helps me get started waitressing. I offered my resume, but they didn't want to take it. I asked my boss for his last name, and he wouldn't give it to me.

I've only worked as a waitress for few days, but they have been calling me about how it's coming along with my licence (they obviously hadn't all communicated with each other) and talking to me about it at work while i'm serving customers. I checked some club reviews and listings and got a LOT of negative comments about the club and I'm really starting to get weary of the place. The condition of the club, despite it's renovations, are a little less then par.

Sorry about the novel, but is this normal? I'm new to the whole thing and this is like no other place I've ever worked in before. I'm torn cuz all the other employees are so nice and customers are very sweet... very little business in this place. I'm thinking I should probably quit and not bother coming back to dance once I have my licence. I just want second opinions. (Plus I never get to ask any of these girls questions about dancing cuz they all give me the cold shoulder... maybe it's just the alcohol?)

As I've learned in my short little life, always go with your gut instinct. If this place is giving you a bad feeling or if everytime you go in, the person's not there then maybe you should find another place. Plus you did say there's not a lot of business there, does that mean there's not many customers? If that's the case, then don't work at a place where you won't make much money. And think if there came a time where something happened that you needed the manager for something and they didn't help you out? I truely believe that there's always little red flags early on in anything we encounter and if we choose to ignore them early on, we'll only get hurt. And I don't think it's the alcohol that's making these girls giving you the cold shoulder, IMO, alcohol usually makes people more friendly. I just don't think this place is for you and maybe you should look for another place that you'd feel more comfortable in and a place where there's more reliability with the management. Plus if you've read mad reviews about the place, there's probably a reason why. This just all sounds very sketchy to me. As I said, never every ignore your gut instinct, that little voice inside you is trying to tell you something, listen to it. One thing I've learned, is if you can't trust yourself, who can you trust? Good luck with your job search and never ever settle. There's plenty of places out there where you will be much happier in and you'll be glad you did it! Good luck!
