    Default Contests/Competitions

I was wondering how much of a help or a hinderance is it to have a title (either as a winner or runner up) in the contests such as Miss Nude, Miss Exotic Dancer etc?

I supppose what I am trying to say is, will something like this get you a better gig, more money or is it something better suited to those girls who have been in the industry some time?

Credits help if you want to be a feature. I'm not a feature yet but I do have 9 credits. Clubs I work at on a regular basis use me for advertisement and it helps bring in business. You can also tell customers the magazines you've been in and more than likely the will go buy them and return to see you. You can also set a website up and there you can sell t-shirts, pics, and DVDs. Credits do bring you attention if you use them the right way. Bragging about them just irritates other dancers.

I don't have any credits yet, but I'm entering some competitions this summer to try to get some. If you don't want to be a feature, then credits probably won't really do too much for you, in terms of your earnings. You'll still be a house girl, and while some DJs may announce your credits while you're on stage, I think that the majority of them probably wouldn't because that would be unfair to the other dancers. If you want to be a feature, it's important to get credits because more credits can get you more bookings.
Take the road less traveled- just make sure you have a map.

Compitetions are usually rigged. The agencies and/or promoters have their favorites, and will do what they can to knock unknowns out of the running.

Better than doing contests to get feature status would be getting jobs like men's magazine modeling jobs or doing stuff like daytime talk shows or "b" rated movies. This will get you feature bookings a lot quicker (and cheaper) than doing contests.

I have done the contests before, and it really means little (or nothing) to the customers unless they are hard core stripper fans. If you can say you were seen on Jerry Springer, that the customers can relate to.

Of course, you can always do porn. But you have to do a lot of movies before anyone has ever heard of you. There are literally 10's of thousands of people working as porn actor/ actresses, so you would have to work a lot before anyone (even heavy porn consumers) recognizes your name.

I am just now really starting to get Feature bookings, after trying to get the agencies to do the legwork for me. I gave up and decided to go independent, and have had some success. I closed a booking yesterday for 6 shifts for an Oregon strip club. I named my price and requirements and got an instant yes. I sat there and thought that maybe I should have asked for more, but then maybe they would have said no??

Just to let you know, doing the contests are a lot of fun! So if you wish to break in to featuring, just do the contest and even if you don't win anything, lie about your title. It isn't like lieing about winning olympic gold or something, it is just a silly industry popularity contest . It's more like lying about being Prom Queen to strangers in a foriegn city .

Thankyou to you all for your advice! I was a little curious as to wheather this was something worthy chasing while working or if it was simple something those who'd seen it all and done it all moved onto.

    I'm a little wiser now.

I'm only going after titles and contests for the promotional aspect of it all. I 'paid' my way into the National Final of the Exotic Angels competition (sponsored myself instead of having another business pay the sponsorship fee) so I can be in the calendar..... and thus have something to sell for a few months after it is published.

I've found that having certain titles can encourage strip clubs to look upon you more favourably than just another house dancer. There are quite a few clubs across Australia that will gladly promote you if you work at their club.

As for the contests and competitions themselves, yes they can seem rigged. They aren't all rigged just that the judges can be sub-standard (not take the judging seriously) at times or just have a preference for one body type over another.

In the end, if you enter ANY competitions and contests... do so for fun. This will help you really enjoy the experience. I also found that competitions were a great way for me to cross over from strip club dancing into private party/agency work.

Do not restrict yourself to just stripper type of comps/contests... branch out into "sports model" type of comps as well.

Thankyou Gold Coast Girl! There is some valuable advice in there I shall file away in my mental filing cabinet.

Sports model type comps? One of the local bars is quite frequently running model searches or girl searches for swim suits or some sporting event. I may just give them another look now!
