Default Medical Biller... Do you guys know anybody that is one?

I was just reading the thread on going to school for being a bartender...

I am planning on going to school to become a medical biller...

I just want to go to school for a 8-12 month period so I can get a decent job... ($11-12 an hour...) Im turning 20 and getting a little too old for fast food... So I was just wonderin...

Im pretty good at basic PC stuff so im sure I would be good at Medical Billing...

Are any of you Medical Biller's or know anybody that does it? AND how do they like it?

How much is the school to learn to do it? I've never done medical billing but I was an accountant for a medical company and had to deal with the billers a lot. Honestly, it wasn't a job I thought I'd like. It gets really irritating in my opinion dealing with all those codes and such, but then I never did it so what do I know. I just know the little I had to deal with bills and codes it was annoying work. It seems though that a lot of people just get an entry level job in billing and get trained though without having to pay for school. Maybe if you just go to a temp agency and see what you can find you'll realize you don't need to take courses to make $11 - $12/hour. If the school isn't that expensive it might be worth it though I guess.

My husband used to do medical billing (with no school background) and hated it. The companies that he worked for just sucked, I don't think it was really the job so much. For that much money, I would 2nd going to temp agency and trying to get an office job.

You can go be a registar in an emergency room and just collect copays and make $13-18 hr with no back ground or education.....

Another idea.....get a job as a bank teller. Most start at 10-12 an hour and 50 cent raises every 3 months are common. I think people that have worked at the bank I do for 2 years are making like 14-15 as a teller supervisor. Plus its something you can advance with into a store manager or banker position in a couple years. There is some sales quotas but it depends on what bank you work at. Banks are everywhere and theres really no requirement for getting a job at one. I got one after working at McDs for 6 months and I make 11 after only 6 months there.

My mom did medical billing and hated it. Plus a lot of medical billers/ medical transcriptionists are being replaced with computers. If you want to go to school for something that pays a bit more why not try being a dental hygenist or paralegal?
