The Strip
Morrigan
I dance each night on a blackened stage
To the music for an unknown wage
Dollar bills and sometimes fives
Are thrown at me in seedy dives
There's the man with the strange toupee
His disheveled clothes in disarray
He hoots and hollars and calls me names
"You're nothing, a whore, a slut," he proclaims
There's the man in the three piece suit
Discussing his latest illegal pursuit
He tips big money to keep me quiet
About that gunshot and that riot
There's the man with the octopus hands
Who used me until I took that stand
Now he's here for all the fresh meat
But don't worry, he'll be 'discreet'
There's the banker, the player, the teen
And that guy that tipped the bean
There's the husband, the fiancee, the newlywed
And there's the guy that asked,"How much for head?"
They all think I'm a woman for sale
Like I'm little girl who's inside all frail
But I'm strong inside from each day like this
Because I know I can find my bliss
There he is, with the crooked smile
The perfect customer who makes it worthwhile
No hands, no mouth, and always a kind word
No sex, that's okay, he's never dettered
But then there's everything else I own
College degree and not a single loan
Yes, the collagen was a splurge
But I made the money when I had the urge
I can see your paycheck and raise you double
In a single night with hardly some trouble
I can look in the mirror and see the beauty
Even when you're saying shit and being snooty
You may demean me and call me names
But I'm a proud stripper all the same
You may think I'm lower than you
But could you really do what I can do?
Can you get on that plastic stage
And get naked for that unknown wage?
Could you be called a whore and a slut
And still come home with a very proud strut?
For all you do and all you say
Could not once ruin my day
You're so lonely you have to come to me
To bring you up when you're on your knees
You're the one who can't get it up
Your self-esteem, I mean, you little yup
Don't worry, for money you can come to me
And make all your insults just to see
But in the end, you can't hurt who I am
It's not my life that you really condemn
No matter what, I'll always be chipper
Because you're the one who needs a stripper
...I was bored.
