    Default $2 for what?!?

so the CEO of my club came in to town this week and fired all of the bartenders, one of the managers AND started charging the dancers $2 for water. tap water, not bottled water! i told the manager that that is bullshit because we are not allowed to bring in any outside food or drink into the dressing room. i've decided it has to be illegal to not provide free water to your employees... but as you know dancers are not employees. can they get away with this? is this a normal practice?

That's not legal, no. If the tap water in your area is drinkable, then bring your own bottle and fill it up in the bathroom tap (just make sure the tap is clean). They can't expect you to dance and work all night and pay $2 for bloody TAP WATER! That's insane.

They are just trying to make even more money off you girls(cheap bastards) and it should be illegal. I mean you could turn on the tap for free right?Total bullshit. The only legal loophole I can think of is that they could charge you for the cup. I think that is how movie theaters got away with it for a while.

you could go and look up business regulations. Or you could sit tight for a few weeks, and hope it just goes away. The CEO just visited, riled things up. They will likely go back to normal.

If you want to talk to your manager, I would present it like this: by charging for water, they are effectively denying you water. This is actually true. Looking at labour regulations, can they demand that you work for however long your shifts are without that kind of basic sustenence? Are your shift longer than 2 or 3 hours? I would just ask him; like if you have 100 girls asking the bar tender for water every 5 minutes, that eats up a fair amount of her time and hence club money. However there is no reason that you cannot bring in your own bottled water. (preventing girls from smuggling in booze is their problem and would likely not be addressed in a labour code)

It could be they are charging for the cups.. I worked at a club that charged us for tap water (plus ice, ha ha.) We found out they were charging us for the cups not the ice so I brought in cups identical to the ones they were selling us and had the girls get free "refills."

If you're in Arizona, it's illegal to charge for water. If your in Alaska or MA (I think), it's illegal to charge for water in an establishment that sells alcohol.

That's crazy to charge for tap water. At my club employees and entertainers can have anything that comes out of the guns (soda or juice) for free. If it comes in a bottle or is an alcoholic beverage they charge for it. But the house mom sells bottled water for dollar. Sounds like the bar either the bar isn't doing to well or the CEO is greedy.

At the club I frequent they have a rule that dancers are only allowed one alchoholic drink per hour. Then they decided that they were not allowed to get glasses of water because some were supposedly having the customers spike them with shots. So now they have to buy bottled water if they want water. Incredibly lame.

At my club there's no charge but we are required to "tip" the bartender 2 bucks per drink. Either that or the customers can buy them for us for more money. Not alcohol, just water or soda. But I think they at least let us bring our own in.

What about contacting the BBB (Better Business Bureau)? That is the biggest crock of [email protected]#$it I've ever heard of in my life! What next are they going to charge you for the water you wash your hands with and flush the toilet with?! These clubs piss me off, stupid cheap bastards! It's not like they don't rob you as it is by forcing you pay this fee and that fee! Maybe I"m crazy but do any of you think one day dancers are going to get fed up and start protesting against clubs? Like the picketing or something? Or going on strike? I know, I know that probably won't happen, but it's a nice fantasy as a way to teach these cheap, ungrateful clubs a lesson and temporarily put them out of business and force them to show dancers more respect! Ughh!!! Ok, I'm done ranting now!

The first club I worked at charged something like $6.25 for a bottle of water. On principle I refused to let customers pay that much to get me water, let alone pay for it myself. At first they let you get tap water at the bar, but you had to drink while you stood there. I've heard that since then they no longer even let you do that.

So I decided to bring my own water bottle in so i didn't have to deal with that nonsense. The housemom however found my water bottle and made me dump it out. Out of all things to get in trouble for . . .

UPDATE: ya'll are not going to believe me!

so i was working last night, got thirsty, and begrudgingly got $2 out of my purse to buy some tap water. and guess what? it is now $5! i am serious. i don't understand. i am hoping this will go away once the CEO leaves town. i called the AR Department of Labor today and they said that there are no laws regarding this. insanity.

but i on a positive note, i banked last night

LOL, this is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard of an owner doing. They get paid fat cash from us with our house fees alone, not including drinks, fines, etc. Get even, Turn on all the faucets and leave them running when you leave the bathroom..... If its not free for you, its not gonna be cheap for them!
Some people are like slinkies, not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs!!

FIVE DOLLARS FOR A GLASS OF TAP WATER?!?!

That ought to incite a riot. Bring in a bottle and fill it from the bathroom tap yourself, and make sure you leave all the taps on full blast. This should be all-out war. There is no fucking way they should be able to get away with that!

Depending on your bathroom taps, why even bother with bringing in a cup or bottle that might get you in trouble.. use your hands. If you can 'block' the sink hole some way so you can get a nice volume of water to just drink out of the sink then do that.. may not be the best or most hygenic way to drink water however it will be free!!

I also agree that if they make you pay $5 for tap water then all the house dancers should protest by leaving the water taps running in the bathroom and/or bringing in their own bottles.

Ridiculous. How is your club doing, business-wise? Seems like when clubs start to lose business, they make it up by fleecing dancers. If this happened to me, I would freak out. I drink water constantly.
