    Default big prob

I don't have a SSN thanks to some BS my mom pulled when I was growing up ( long story ). I have tried and tried and tried to get one but the offices I've tried keep pulling BS and asking me for documents I don't have. If child grew up in a house where getting her a SSN was too much trouble, then do you really thing she went to the doctor? Or has records that are 19 years old. I've given them my birth certificet, but they want my state ID. Here's a news break, hay people that work for the government, you can't get a state ID without a SSN! So they want a work ID. Hay, another news break! You can't legally work without a SSN!!!! After I explain that I can't provide thoes things, they pretty much give me an " it's your problem " look and tell me I have to get i or no SSN. WRF! I've been told to file an apeel, whatever that is. But I have no idea how to go about it, and no lawer will touch me. This is a very odd case. I need major help. I can't get a job, so I can't get a plce or buy my own food. I'm living off other people, and my mom is kicking me out.

yes, this is an outgrowth of the 'illegal alien' political controversy, and stepped up enforcement of existing 'legal work status' laws in some states (Texas in your case). I'm not sure of all of the details, but in order to obtain a SSN for yourself you're going to have to carry the burden of proof ... which begins with tracking down your birth certificate, obtaining a 'legally authorized copy' with a raised official stamp, and then dragging it along with your mother down to the nearest Social Security office. It would also help if you had other records i.e. medical, school system, which prove that you have been living in the USA all of your life.

I once had to get a state ID for a BF of mine who was too much of a train wreck to have anything close to legal identification.

I cant remember exactly what we did- but I remember the first step was going to the SS office and asking about their requirements. We were able to get a birth certificate from the SS office using notarized high school transcripts (which the public school system was kind enough to give us), and then once both the birth certificate and the school records were in place we were able to get the SS card and then a state ID. Then I was able to get my loser BF a real on-the-books job scaring small children at a local toy store before they mysteriously went out of business 2 months later. C'est la vie.

Of course this he already had a SSN out there somewhere, he just didnt have any proof of it. Still, any sort of educational/health/insurance/legal records you can dig up (and institutions keep copies of these things even if your family doesnt) will help.

Of course shortly after losing his new job, my BF lost his new ID, and I lost my taste for supporting lame-ass BF's.

    Good luck!

I would look for an immigration attorney as they have specific knowledge about this. I would also search for the birth records - get that.

Contact your local Congressional Office for help if SS is creating a challenge. Call a SS office in another state - leave the Texas folks behind. I recently called the SS office in Campbell, CA for my mother-in-law who was getting the BS treatment in FL. The lady in Campbell was very helpful and no attitude -

Under the assumption you were born in the USA and that can be documented - your case may be difficult but you will prevail.

I don't have any school records, or doctor records, or anything. I've given them everything i have which is things like library cards from when i was 9, volentear documents from when i was 10 and 11, and so on. I gave them a lot, but they don't care. It's like none of them want to risk letting me have one incase I end up bombing someplace. Like I couldn't do tht wihout a SSN.
Unfortunately, the Social Security administration apparently has a set of rigid guidelines which they must follow when granting SS#'s to people who are not newborns. Those rigid guidelines start with being shown an 'official copy' of a birth certificate and an 'official transcript' of public school records. If you were born in America, the city hall and/or hospital where you were born can supply you with a birth certificate copy. If you went to school in America, the school system can provide you with transcripts. But it's up to you to do the legwork to make the inquiries and go to the proper places to obtain these 'official' documents !

The problem with your library cards and volunteer documents is that they are not 'authoritative', meaning that nobody at the library or volunteer center really checked into the citizenship or real address of the persons they issued documents to. Thus a person who snuck across the border from Juarez could just as easily have gotten the very same library card or volunteer documents. On the other hand, when issuing a birth certificate to a newborn or when admitting a new student to a public school, the ID and address of a parent would have been checked and verified.
