    Default stripping in Australia?

    Hi everyone

I'm a 20 year old student in the UK who works in a strip club part time. During the summer i really want to travel to Australia and was contemplating working in a strip club there. Just wondering if anyone would mind helping me out a bit? As I have a few questions -

Where about in Australia is best for stripping? What kind of things should I expect? eg - are most clubs topless or nude? What kind of earning potential is there? Do I need a permit? Also does anyone have any general advice for me? I just want to get a rough idea of what to expect before I start really looking into it. Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

hi sammygirl, it's hard to know where to begin, i'm in melbourne where they say some of the best earning potential is but i can't say from experience as i've never danced in another state.
as far as i know, all clubs in australia are full nude unless you get into topless waitressing. most states are non-contact but in queensland, patrons are permitted to touch but i do believe it's to discretion of the girls (???) there is a chain of strip clubs here in melbourne, kittens, who do permit touching but it has a reputation you don't want to poke with a ten foot pole, everywhere else is 'air-dances'

you do not need a permit to dance in australia but the taxation dept. has come down on the industry in recent years, forcing many girls to declare their earnings and the others to take the risk of getting caught. you'll have to look into a working visa (?) maybe to work over here legitimately.
the earning potential varies greatly depending on girl to girl - top earners can make over AUS$1000 per night over the weekends but others may struggle to make their house fees back.
Depending on the state you work in, you may be charged a house fee (a flat rate to work in the venue each night- usually around $40) or in other states (QLD maybe) they take a percentage of your earnings.

it would be beneficial for you to speak to "goldcoastgirl" on this forum as she has a wealth of knowledge on dancing around australia and has set up information to help, find a thread which she has posted in and send her a private message but she'll probably find this thread first. goodluck and let us know when you come down, depending on where you choose, we may be able to meet up.

Thank you Aprilleigh! Your advice is very helpful. I looked at some of goldcoastgirl's posts and it's helped me even further! I was also just looking at the Bar20 Showgirls (Melbourne) website and it looks fantastic - you don't get strip clubs like that over here! I'll keep you all updated about what I want to do. I really think this could work out well for me if I planned it well enough - I really want to visit Australia anyway and getting the chance to earn over there sounds even better. My geography is very poor when it comes to Australia so I think I'll have to get out a map and work out where all the different states are because at the moment its confusing me. It's scarily big compared to Britain!

    Hi Sammy,
Are you talking about during the English summer?
You will definatly need a working visa if you're wanting to strip here. No other permits are needed though. Stripping here can vary quite alot depending on where you go and luck really. It's definatly not a stable industry and it can fluctuate quite dramaticly from great to absolutly terrible $ wise in some places. From what I can make out Melbourne and Adelaide sound like they have the most stable and fair clubs. I take it you've checked the other Aussie threads (-:

Yes, much bigger than Britain over here, lol! You can't just jump on a bus or train and go to a different town or city for a day here, theres just lots of nothing (or nothing very exciting) inbetween.

I spent quite a bit of time in Melbourne in the late 90s and I've been back a couple of times since so I wrote this on the scene for strip magazine

    http://www.strip-magazine.com/mmagaz...8196127&ucat=2

Sydney is the most famous city in Aussie but I found Melbourne better in most ways entertainment wise. The other major places are Perth, Adelaide, and Brisbane then there are the more touristy bits like Gold Coast, North Queensland, Darwin etc

Tyke, that is a great article! I read it from start to finnish and I don't seem to do that often these days (-:

    >>>The road to nudity

The path taking Melbourne into it’s current state of liberalisation was quite a long one and seems to have been prompted by the realisation that all the restrictions were making the city a very unattractive place for visitors. <<<<

It was refreshing to see this pointed out. We can only hope that sooner rather than later our current lawmakers on The Gold Coast come to the same conclusion!

If the strip clubs locally went the way of the clubs in King St (Melbourne), Adelaide, Townsville and Cairns... I would jump at the chance to work locally again. It is the whole customer can touch you thing that is stopping from me from returning to any of the local clubs (or even wanting to work Brisbane/Gold Coast clubs for more than 4 nights a month). Ever since I have started dancing in 'no touching' environments I really do not want to go back.

EDIT TO ADD: I realise you meant about the whole 3am lock-in/out thing that is basically state-wide in Queensland. Ooops! I agree that the lock-in/out isn't that great. Oh I wish for the days of before it was even a thought!

Thank you for the compliment about my posts being helpful. That's the whole point and reason why I crave information in re: the clubs around Australia.

    In answer to your questions:

There is no definative answer to your first question (best money making potential) as there are too many factors that impact on earnings. Even Melbourne can have its 'down' times (like right now after all the events and then in Winter).

The strip clubs in Australia are full nude as there is a very small handful of clubs around the place that are topless. The thing about those topless clubs is that they aren't very popular and usually have v.strict rules in re: private dances in which they ARE an air dance. The private/lap dances in the majority of strip clubs in Australia are full nude with dancer to customer contact. There are exceptions as has been stated. Each state (and then club) is different - pick your destination(s) and do your research about the club(s) in that area.

Yes you will require a working visa. These are generally easy to acquire esp. since you are so young and from Britian (a commonwealth country).

As far as not knowing the "lay of the land" here in Australia, it is best that you research about the different cities and towns here before you come over so you can decide for yourself which one(s) you would like to visit.

Also, are you speaking about your Summer or our Summer? Remember our Summer is your Winter and vice versa.

There is already a well established market in Melbourne for table dancing clubs though whether it can support the current 4 large clubs plus the various other forms of striptease in the city remains to be seen. --- http://www.strip-magazine.com/mmagaz...8196127&ucat=2
I couldn't agree more! As for Spearmint Rhino which you mentioned in your article... the restaurant is definately open. Alot of Bucks parties usually start 'down stairs' in the restaurant with dancers rotated on the stage whilst they eat then after the meal is finished and depending on how long they hired the room... they then move to the main club upstairs. Also, during Winter (thanks to my experience last year) they also tend to use the downstairs room on the slower nights (Sun-Tues).

As for further expansion, there are rumours about SR and Bar 20 both expanding in the S.E. Qld market. When? Who knows! I definately am 'out' of the loop for the time being so I have no idea.

Alot of other the other cities/towns in Australia wouldn't be able to handle much more UNLESS a club did shut down in order to accommodate the new club (like what happened with Hollywood Showgirls as Santa Fe Gold (and then in turn it's sister club Bad Girls) were shut down).

Thanks everyone for your help. You are all great!

Yes I am talking about the British summer so it will be your winter. Not the best season for stripping I'm sure but only time I have off from my studies. I do want to make some money but its more about having the opportunity to travel that is attracting me. So I would just want to make enough to cover expenses plus hopefully a little more. I want to travel up to Japan on the way back for a holiday too if I can. I'm used to having to hustle at work so I don't feel worried about going to the bigger clubs in Melbourne. I also might stay in Melbourne for a bit and then travel else where to work in other parts of Oz but I won't work in any clubs where they can touch me (are they all like that in gold coast?). At the moment I work at a topless club where the contact is very light and really unoffensive. It's going to be a new experience doing nude. I was also wondering if it expensive to fly around Australia? Another thing - I'm Scottish. Will my accent work for me or against me? Its a very soft accent (not harsh or anything) but I dunno if it will put the guys off?

    Thanks again

    Sammy

Yes, all the clubs on the Gold Coast and Brisbane are full nude touching (customer to dancer). As for expensive to fly around Australia - it depends on whether you are fussy or not. I personally refuse to fly Jetstar due to a bad experience with them awhile ago now however your experience may be different. Some people refuse to fly Virgin for the same reason I refuse to fly Jetstar... in the end... just go to http://www.webjet.com.au and search for the cheapest airfare for your destination.

Then once you have found the cheapest airfare go to the website direct and purchase the flight from there (if you have a debit/credit card) as I've found it much easier to do it this way than via webjet.

Avoid going to travel agents even tho' that is the easiest route as sometimes you may not always get the flight you want via them. If you must use a travel agent, I personally like using Flight Centre - www.flightcentre.com.au

If you plan to stay at a few hostels (backpacker accomm.) you could put up a notice on their in-house notice board to see if anyone is going your way (if the place is within a decent driving distance) and get a lift with them. All you will be out is fuel expenses then.

Yet another way to travel is rail/train however not always the cheapest. It really depends on where you are going from and to whether or not the train is affordable.

Last yet not least is the good ol bus. Once again, most hostels will be of assistance with any 'affordable' ways to travel between locations.

As for your accent.. it might prove to be a problem if it is thick. If your accent isn't too thick, then it should prove to be an advantage as you can 'hypnotise' them with your accent (as such) If it is thick, you may find it very hard at first until you 'adapt' so that people can understand you.

Argh! I just posted a long reply and my puter froze!

Your accent should work for you rather than against you. However there are alot of Brits over here (I'm one too ) so the novelty has worn off somewhat...
Airfares are cheap enough really - we don't have the really cheap deals like you get over your side of the world but to get between the major cities on the East Coast you should be able to get flights from between $60 and $150 if you plan well or have luck on your side. Perth obviously can be more expensive to get to from all of the other major cities due to it being so far away...
Backpacker acom generally I think about $20 per night is about average. Some places may be less, especially for weekly rates. Of course you can pay more too.I'm hoping that half of Britain will decide to come here for their summer break like a couple of years ago - buisness was good then! (-:

I EMPHASISE my Swiss accent, as its a great talking point! I also say how tame things are in Aus, compared to Europe, which is why MY dances are much more fun than other girls!

Good luck, and maybe see you down here!
