Do most of you have a set to do for each song or do you just go with the flow? Also do you do floor work onstage at a club or just dance around the pole and go up to customers?

I improv.I don't do floor or pole work, but I do go up to the customers.

I wouldn't stress out over planning some elaborate routine but after you've been dancing awhile you'll find yourself kinda falling into one anyhow. It will become a mix between routine and improv.

A mixture of both. I'll have a 'general' routine that I will follow that is flexible (open to improv).

Since I can't pick the songs I dance to during the day shift I usually just have to improv with whatever comes on. But, I do practice certain moves at home just to stay flexible, and I also take a few exotic dance workout classes, which have really taught me how to move in different ways so my routines don't get boring on stage![]()
Both floorwork and pole, not always together in the same set though. I improvise depending on the song and my mood. I love both equally and the music kinda takes over when I'm on stage and I just do what I feel.
I just do what I feel like too although I do have a rough routein of how I do it if people are slow to tip me on stage.
I improvise on stage, but once you've been dancing a while you end up having certain moves that you do all the time. So I kind of have fallen into a routine with those certain moves, but I try to switch it up and try new things once in a while so I don't get bored.
Take the road less traveled- just make sure you have a map.

I improv, but I always run out of stuff to do about halfway through my set (we're onstage for twenty minutes). So I do a few back-and-forth walks on the stage to let everyone get a good look at me, then start dancing, do some polework, get down on the floor and show off....then if I'm really out of dance moves and pole tricks and am totally bored I just crawl around naked and visit with all the people in gyno. There's usually cool people sitting at the rail to talk to until my set is over.
Then again, if you're only up for a song or two, you're basically just showcasing yourself to sell dances later so show off your best assets, be it polework or floorwork, cool dance moves, whatever. Just go with the flow.

Kitty why are you on stage for so long? Where I work we're on for two song and they get shortened if too long.

I'm in Western Canada! Here we work for agencies as showgirls. We don't do lap, stage only, and we get a flat wage for every stage show we do (sometimes 13 a day!). The shows have to be between 18 and 20 minutes long. We don't have tipout either, whatever we make in tips and private VIP stage shows is ours to keep. It's a good length of stage time if you're creative and like to do paint/lotion shows, or you've got a really good routine put together but i'm new and still feel awkwardup there for so long.

I thought it was 17 minutes in Wpg? I barelled out there with my 18 minute BC sets and they loved me, lol. Thought I was a hard workerThe shows have to be between 18 and 20 minutes long.. Haven't heard of anywhere yet where it's 20 minutes though.
And yes, 30 seconds is a big f'ing deal in Western Canada. If your set is say 17:29 in BC (instead of 18+), some clubs will FINE you.
Boo- I had to tip out $5/ VIP show at the Gent's Club. Where is there no tipout?whatever we make in tips and private VIP stage shows is ours to keep.
To answer the OP, aboslutely improv. Like the other girls said, you start to fall into a routine after awhile, but I don't know anyone who's actually like "Ok spin, kick, twirl, pause, repeat..."

Wow, well then Kitty, is there a way I can come up there to work for a while? That sounds really interesting!

Yeah Scarlett, Rick told me between 18 and 20 minutes, and that they'd fine my ass big time if it was any less. I tried to get away with 17:25 at Centerfolds 'cuz I had to be at another bar for midnight and the DJ said not to chance it, that the mangement would be watching because I was new and therefore an easy target or whatever....bullshit. Then again, it WAS Centerfolds AND there were only five people in the bar. As for tipout...Rick never said a word about that but I've never done floor time at Gent's either, just mostly jamming.
Five bucks a VIP isn't bad at all really, not like the places where you tip the bouncers, the DJ, the waitresses, the guy that sweeps the floor etc... The nice thing about here is that you're guarenteed at least your show price so you never go home empty handed.
Damia, I'm PMing you.

I guess Centrefolds has different rules. *shrug*. Actually, no, I think they're taking advantage of you. But whatever, I guess it's no big deal for a jam show.
Just for fun though, you should ask to see a copy of your contract sometime.
No, $5 isn't bad on a $30 dance, I think it's fair. But I'd rather pay nothing!![]()

...Okay, now you've got me wondering. I've never timed any of the other girls' sets, BUT when I was just hitting the clubs as a customer last year I'd swear on my life a lot of girls only did three songs. Now that I pay closer attention in the last while, they're doing four or sometimes even five. They must have started getting sticky right before I started jamming, because the 18-20 minute rule threw me off too. I was only expecting three songs. And it's damn hard to kill 18 minutes on a tiny little dance floor with no pole. Hell, I ran out of things to do after five minutes at The Zoo.Originally Posted by scarlett_vancouver

I'm checking that out when I get back to dancing, hopefully soon (f**king exams). If I was doing 18 minute shows and didn't have to be I'm going to be hella pissed and Rick is officially on my shit list.
