Default Question about the Angel pose on the Pole

Even though I am retired I still pole dance at home. Right now I am trying to do the angel pose that is taught in the poletricks 101 dvd but I can't seem to get my heel properly placed on the pole. It just doesn't fit in there . So I am wondering if this is because I have 6 inch heels with a mini platform instead of a full platform or 7 inch heels ?

What are the best shoes for this move ? Should I invest in a pair of 7 inch heels or would a pair with a full platform do ? Or should I get some boots or what ?

Opps I'm calling it by the wrong name Please see my other post below. Thanks in advance for any and asll help !

It's the one where you climb way up to the top and hang on with just your legs, and you can move your arms around. You sort of look like an angel on top of the Christmas tree... just without the top of a fir sticking in your ass.

    Oh, I see.

Lots of people use their boots/shoes to stick to the pole, but I like to use my shins. I know what you're talking about with that way that some girls crook their foot to hold on...I don't do that either. It's not a necessity by any means- in fact, I think you have more control if you don't.

If you want to do it with shoes, though, patent boots stick best.

Anyway, here is the spin version of the move I am trying to do. Here it's called a split heel.

Click the link for the "actual chapter from the dvd" , it's the second to the bottom on the right side of this page.

Do I need really big heels like Pantera is wearing to do this trick ? Or am I just not strong enough ?

I can do alot of tricks like the helicopter and I can climb the pole and all that so that is why I am starting to think it's my shoes.

ok, are you talking about your heel at the top or bottom? If it's the top, I don't think you're shoes really matter, because it's really above your heel on the tendon..maybe try pointing your toes to make a "crook" with that area.

the shoes shouldn't matter too much. Is your ankle straight or bent slightly?

i'm gonna to try this pose..see if I have the same issue..

I clicked the link and I still am not sure of what you are talking about. the pictures aren't that great.
what I do know is this: it doesn't matter what kind of shoes you wear. I can do all that stuff barefoot. however I wear huge shoes like pantera's at work. when I was first learning, I wore patent/vinyl knee high boots.
    good luck.

I've found that this is not necessarily true. The shoes make a BIG difference in the way some of the pole moves can be done (take the splits on the pole...no way you could do that one without the shoes). It's not the MOST important of the moves, but it's up there.

actually you can do most everything on a pole without shoes! Trust me...I have one. It all depends on your strength...it's easier for me to "cheat" and use my boots to stick to the pole as of now though.

As far as this trick goes....You need to make sure to get your foot like it says in the video...just watch it and try it over and over until you get it. I can't give you any pointers about the bottom foot as it's neccessary to get it positioned right so that you don't kill yourself. Just maybe work on getting your shoe around the pole like they do and pulling up before you try to go any further.
As far as the top foot is concerned...you don't need to hook it around you can actually place it exactly the same as your bottom foot...whichever is easiest for you.

When I did pole work on the Stainless I could not get a good enough grip without my shoes. On a brass is no problem...but my last club had a stee/stainless and it was a bitch to get any kind of grip.

Every dancer I've learned my moves from taught me with the shoes. If you can do it without the shoes, good for you. I've still not learned how to do the chinese splits while up high on the pole and slowly spin down without my shoes...

Well I often work on my tricks barefoot so I'll keep trying this move without shoes because my current pairs just won't allow me to fit the pole in there properly. If I ever get it or the 7 inch shoes I'll report back on the progress.

i would think with the trick they showed in the clip that you would need shoes. the pole kinda wedges itself in between your heel and platform. id be worried that my feet would be too sweaty and slippery. at least for this one.
i *officially* am gonna try like real hardcore pole dancing, god that looked so awesome!
