So...there is a possibility the house deal we thought he had worked out will fall through- it seems the current owner decided to let it be foreclosed on instead of giving us an option to buy first.I could wait to see if I can get it, but I think we'll have issues with finance companies (and how much work it needs). Plus, I'm just sick of getting my hopes up and then having them come crashing back down right after. (For those of you that don't know, this is the second house we were planning on buying...the other deal fell through, too.)
So...I was talking with Mox yesterday, and he told me they (people from work) had been bugging him about transferring to Austin. They are having trouble keeping people around out there (in fact, his supervisor is going there in May to see if he can do better than the current management), and he would pretty much be handed a leadership position (what kind, he's not sure). It would mean more hours (which would = lots of over time) and a pay increase in the dollar amounts (not cents, I mean).
So anyway, we were talking about buying a house down that way...no big deal. I went to work today and was talking with my co-woker about the whole idea, and she said that my work was having trouble keeping steady help at their Georgetown location and they would probably transfer me without a second thought if I wanted to.
My main question is this, though... The equal distance between our two jobs would be Round Rock (literally, it's 10 miles to each of our jobs from there). What's the word on Round Rock? Good/bad? I know the cost of living is higher there than here, so I'm wondering if there are any alternative places anyone would suggest that would be better. I just want an idea of what we'd be moving to if we're planning on buying...we'd rent first, but I figure we'd run into problems having ferrets, a cockatiel, and parakeets (yes, yes...I know...I've heard it all before).
Can someone from up that way give me info. about the area or ideas for what we should do? I'd most certainly appreciate it!
EDIT: I'm asking SWers because I don't really know anyone that lives in the Austin area. The only people I know are going to college, and they live in dorms or apartments near campus...not at all what I'm looking for.
