    Default Eyeliner

Hey girls...I was wondering if anyone can give me some tips. I usually use pencil for my eyes but it wears off after a couple of hours and I'm horrible with liquid liner. I love the cat eye look but can't master it for shit!! I usually also stay with light lipstick because I like my eyes to stand out more and dark lipstick also makes me look older. How do you get the cat eye look?

    Thanks...Billie

well instead of using a eyeliner, use black eye shadow .. take a thing brush dipped it in water and put a little powder on it and put it like an eye liner inside..
no it doesn't fuck with your eye's it doesn't do anything bad.. just make sure your brush is clean and you powder isn't 100 years old.. and practice before ... if you put enough it will last all night until you wash it off..

I have had this same problem. What I've found is that black Prestige brand automatic eyeliner (one of the cheap drugstore brands) is perhaps the most impermeable substance known to man. It goes on very dark, lasts all night and I have to use several wipes of eye makeup remover to get it to go away. Nothing else I've ever used holds a candle to it, and yes, I've owned quite a bit more expensive makeup.

I've even started using other eyeliners *under* it so that I can make it go away more easily after work.

Gosh, I sound like a salesperson for them. But I really mean it, this stuff holds.

I like the gel eyeliner from Victoria's Secret. Good staying power, easier to apply than liquid, and works great for your bottom lashline.

Try Cover Girl's onyx liquid liner. I used to use that before I had the permanent eyeliner done.

My Holy Grail eyeliner is Bobbi Brown gel liner with her brush (the brush is important).

It goes on perfectly for thin lines on the bottom lid or thick lines on the top, and doesn't have that harshness of liquid. It's also waterproof and smudgeproof after it dries.

I have never been excited about eyeliner before and women were raving about this on makeupalley.com. I see why. And a little goes a long way. I've have my pot of it for a few months, use it almost every day, and a little bit is gone.

Someone on here recommended revlon color stay and I've been using it for about a year-year and a half now. I like it, but I might check out that stuff that Emily was talking about.

My friend at work also loves that prestige liquid eyeliner, I think she said it has a really fine tip on the applicator which looks great on her.

With liquid eyeliner, I've found that the ones with harder or firmer applicators, such as the revlon stuff, goes on MUCH easier.

I think you really need to use a liquid liner to achieve the cat's eye effect. There's a technique but it's a bit challenging to explain. Someone had posted a link before about a MAC tutorial and in one of them the girl showed how to do it. It involves making a pin point dot with the tip of your liquid liner brush at the inner corner of your eye and the outer corner. These dots serve as guides...kinda like connect the dots. I'll see if I can find the tutorials. I'm trying to remember who posted the link. Was it Tiger's Milk? Who posted a link to MAC makeup tutorials several months ago. We were all "ooooohing" and "ahhhhhing" over the different looks. Anybody?

    edit: it's http://www.limecrime.net

I'll see if I can find the cat eye one.

edit again: hmph! It looks like the tutorials are no longer available for viewing!

Use a eyeshadow base/primer to make any black eyeshadow stay put. I do mine early in the night before I go to clubs and crap, and it stays on almost completely through the night, i may touch up once or twice, but that's it! And get one of those thin-tapered eyeliner brushes which are made specifically for making thin lines for eyeliner........i love em!!!!

There is a product by Trish McEvoy called Finish Line and it will turn any eyeshadow into a liner that will stay put all night. It's the best.

I recently returned to liquid eyeliner. It's definitely good for achieving the strong cat-eye look, rather than a smokey eye (which I used to do). I always thought Angelina Jolie had beautiful eyes, and read that she always used liquid eye liner to achieve her cat-eyed look. So if it's good enough for her, well it should be good enough for me. ;-)

I use a Loreal or Revlon felt tip liner. It's easier to control. I try to start on the outer edge with a wider line, and then keep the line more narrow closer toward the nose. I make small brush strokes strokes, so it's easier to manage.

It definitely makes an impact. I still use mascara on my upper lashes, but it really cuts down on the time I spend putting on everyday makeup. Plus the brand I use even lasts when I forget to wash off before I go to sleep.

Jillian, I didn't mean the prestige liquid eyeliner, but the automatic -- the twist-up automatically sharpening crayon-pencil.

I can't use liquid eyeliner, unless I want to be crying black tears, which I suppose is very gothic but just isn't my style. :-)

Wow...cool tutorials...thanks for posting the links

I'd been using Almay eyeliner pencil in "Definite Brown" for a long time...love the look, but it smudges very badly and disappears after a few hours (despite the "16 hour" claim

Thanks to Emily, I have switched to the Bobbi Brown gel liner (in "Espresso Ink")...this stuff is AMAZING !!! Definite cat's eye look, deep, rich color....and absolutely NO smudging/ wearing off...

Thanks so much, Emily...this is going to make my life soooo much easier

How is the Bobbi Brown gel liner compared to the MAC Fluidline? Is one better- or easier than the other?

I always sucked at liquid eyeliners but I got some cheap waterproof stuff that stays on great. I just line my eyes how I want with a regular pencil and do all of my eye makeup
-mascara then I re-line with the waterproof stuff on top, I dont know why this makes it easier for me and it stay forever.
