Sad Mr. Influenza knockin @ my door

Just for the record, I feel like shit...

Day 1: Got an itchy sorethroat that I couldn't kick. Later into the day, I got so hot I couldn't move. My body was so hot it was like I laid in the sun all day. I literally laid in bed for 20hrs. Oh, and I cant' talk...

Day 2: I went to the doctor. Tested negative for strep, but positive for Influenze type B. Had a temperature of 100.6 All day i'm thinking, "dam i'm @ 100.6 degrees now, when I feel "fine" I wonder what was my temperature yesterday when I was hot.

Day 3: Well, it's 1:03am. My fever spell is finally fading. I'll fill you in on what progresses as the day goes on.

Again, for the record, I feel like shit. I've never had the flu before, and I feel aweful. What makes it even worse is that my ladyfriend came over to take care of me, and INSISTS on sleeping in the same bed as me. So naturally, now her throat is sore, and she's coughing.

The doctor didn't give me any meds. He just said to drink lots of fluids. What else can I do. I need help, and some sympathy wouldn't hurt either

damn, that sucks...is influenza just like a regular flu?

maybe try some of that thera-flu stuff, and i would probably take tylenol pm's or some over the counter sleeping pills to just sleep through the whole thing. (of course don't take too much!)
    hope you feel better.

Oh, I've got one better for you! Monday night I felt a little roughness in my throat and ruled it out as allergies (pollen is REALLY bad in Vegas right now). I wake up at 4AM on Tuesday morning shivering. It's 73 degrees in our house and I feel like it's 23. I get out of bed and I ache all over....the flu DAMMIT! All day I feel like crap and the wife keeps telling me to go take a nap. I can't because I can't get comfortable enough to fall asleep. I finally go to bed at 1AM Wednesday morning. 4 hours later, I'm awake again. It seems like the Theraflu isn't working at all. I can't go back to sleep. Now the shivering is alternating with me being too hot. I think I even joked with my wife that I'm going through Menopause.

So, almost all day yesterday, no sleep. At least it is a good excuse to catch up on all the Seinfeld DVDs I bought. Last night I go to bed at about 11ish. I wake up this morning at around 6AM when my hounds were howling in the living room for no reason whatsoever. So I wake up and I can't open my right eye. I go into the bathroom and it's totally sealed shut...aha...PINKEYE! I've had conjunctivitis about 4 other times in my life. I get it somewhat easily I guess. So I go to the doctor to get some meds for it and after getting checked out for a possibility of having Strep I tested negative (just like you). The bad news is I'm told I have a throat infection, an eye infection from the conjunctivitis and an inner ear infection! WTF?! The doctor even asked me if my ear hurt and I told her no being quite surprised at that question. So she prescribes me 3 different drugs and I'm home all day just relaxing. Well, about 4 hours ago, my ear starts to feel funny. So now my ear hurts, my body aches, my throat feels like I swallowed a porcupine, and my eye is red and feels like there's sand in it. Jeezus!!!! So here's the best part. My wife calls from work to see how I'm doing and I get up to go grab the phone and I almost fell down twice on the way. I guess my ear issue has thown off all my equilibrium somehow. When I walk it's like I'm on shrooms without all the good effects from them! So Cin, I totally feel your pain. It sure sucks being sick!!!!!

This was the first year in many that I did not get a flu shot. And of course I ended up with the real deal (Type B Influenza). The doc prescribed Tamiflu and that cleared it up with in about 24 hours. It really is hellishly awful suffering though. There's nothing you can do but let it take its course (which can be a week to two weeks) or find a doc who will prescribe Tamiflu.

I'm sick too. I've had a sore throat for a few days now and I figured it was just the dry air in Las Vegas, but now I'm back in L.A. and it's raining, and I feel like total shit. It's all in my sinuses and throat. *sigh*

Feel better everybody. Cinn, when I'm sick like that the only thing that soothes my throat is tea with lots of honey and lemon.

^^^ That's what I'm having right now. Chamomile tea, at that.

I REALLY need to go to the bank and the grocery store but I can't bring myself to get up. I want soup. And I want someone to put money in the bank for me. <whine>

Really? That's the same type that I had (Type B) so that is the worse one??? YIKES! My doctor said he had the same flu last week, and he was only sick for 3 days. Hell this is day 3 and I feel the same. Tamiflu, I'm going to look that up. Why in the hell did he not prescribe me that?!

I've been doing that. Usually when I just have a sore throat, I just make hot tea, and melt about 3-4 menthol cough drops in it. It's totally soothing!

^^^Never thought of that! I'll probably get another sore throat when I get to Florida next month, always do with change of climate, so I'll have to make sure and have those drops handy.

    Thanks for the tip!

Ooooh! That sounds great! I am home sick with strep right now, so I might try that!

As for the flu, Tamiflu only works if you take it within, like, 24-48 hours or something.

Definitely get a LOT of rest - your body needs to fight off the virus. I hope you feel better soon Cinnamon!

Type A is the worse one. I had that when I was nineteen. I missed all my finals and got incompletes

Some docs are prescription happy and some prefer a more holistic approach...I guess I hooked up with the right doctor! It did take me 24 hours to get the prescription filled because Tamiflu is the drug used to treat Avian flu. So there are major shortages.

    Feel better soon!

Well, I'm starting to feel a little better, I think. I haven't had a fever, or any hot/cold flashes. I still have the cough, and occasional sneeze.

My friend wants me to come down to Louisville to visit, and possibly hit the club. I wanna go out. Please, someone tell me I can go. I haven't been out in like 6months!!

No No and No!! Sorry babe but you need to take care of yourself!!! Stay in, watch movies and eat soup. One night of fun is not worth making yourself feel worse. There's always next weekend. Sorry!

Cinn, it's not worth the risk. Your immune system is in a weakened state and you would be more susceptible to other germs out there...especially in a club! You could recover from this one and come down with another.

Lyssa's right. Stay home and rest. Glad to hear you're feeling better.

Aww man, see I knew I shouldn't have checked SW before leaving the house. LOL...Ok, I'm putting my bags down, and retreating back to the bed.

My head is suddenly starting to hurt. To much excitement for one day I guess.
