Default when does the tax slump end?

Now, I've heard that it's really bad before April 15th. I've been out sick for a few days and before that is wasn't super hot because it was a lot of young guys coming in on nights when older gentlemen normally rule.
    So,
WHEN DOES IT END!?! When do people stop being depressed about paying taxes and get back to spending money on us?

    Just wondering

I think no one wants to say it but..... This industry is tanking for a lot of reasons. It's becoming more unreliable. So either sharpen your skills with DW or sales books like How to Close Any Sale by Joe Girard or start looking for another job. There never was a major slump for Easter or tax season but now any little blip keeps our prime customer base out of the club.

optimist is right. the industry is becomming over saturated, and the economy in the US is only going to get worse in the next two years with our current president.

oy...let's blame the economy again. Or better, the president!

I'm doing well this week and I did for the previous weeks, but I wasn't going to come on this thread and say, "gosh, I don't know why you're doing so shitty, because I'm doing so great!"

Maybe that's why nobody responds except to say, "me too...it really does suck lately".

There are girls making money and lots of it (in a clean way, so please don't go there). How do we explain that in spite of this supposed gloomy economy?

I never said I was doing shitty. In fact, I always do great for the most part. All I did was state my opinion. and that's all it is. just an opinion. If you have been dancing for a long time, then you know that money was better in this industry in the late 90's. hell, it was better all around (everywhere I traveled and worked, anyway) just three years ago. But again, that is only my opinion.

so if you're not doing shitty, why are you complaining about the change in the industry? Most people are making less now than in the 90s. Our industry isn't protected from the ebb and flow of the economy.

I am looking forward to having my customers coming in to spend what they get back from their returns. I had a customer call and tell me he's getting a lot of money back this year and looking for someone to spend it on!

the thing about tax refunds is that people that were entitled to them probably already got them....I mean, why wait until the last minute to get money that is owed to you? You wait until the last minute to pay money owed to someone else!

I never complained about the industry. I complained about the economy, which I think everyone in any industry can relate to. I don't know where you are getting the idea that I am doing shitty, or why it would make any difference to you if I was or wasn't. So I don't like our current president, and I'm not happy with the job he's doing. So what. alot of people in this country feel that way. However, I do kinda feel like you are picking on me, and I'm not sure why. You don't know me, and I don't know you. anyway, If you'd like to keep having this conversation, please feel free to pm me.

you did complain about the industry!

So yes, I inferred that you were doing shitty. When you said you were not, then I asked what you were complaining about. The president? Okay. Have fun. but....this is a stripping forum.

I don't want to talk about the current adminstration. It's irrelevant, which is my original point.

From my end I see a lot more girls bitching about how much they don't make. I see the girls with many job options who used to do this declining sharply. So I say forget about the experience of one or a handful of dancers. The general earnings trend is in the toilet.

It sounds elitist but at my club it was easy and common to do a grand EVERY night. Not anymore. It's a lot of persuasive effort.

I think the country's in a financial crisis and people don't want to admit it. In the last few years I've heard many girls speak of their second act, second career. Now, I hear irrational exuberance from girls who look ragged with concern by the end of the night. The general merriment I used to see from my spoiled bratty co-workers (meant affectionately) I don't see. I see a lot of attitude and higher than usual cattiness and heavier drinking.

You know what, Velvet, I'm going to out myself too. I've been doing this for over 10 years and by the grace of GOD I still look like I'm 23, 125lbs 5'7''. It's NEVER been like this. I debated on this for a few weeks because I wanted to see if what happened in Florida could happen here in Myrtle. It has. Friends who have worked this market for five or more years have said it gets lower and lower every year. I didn't care as long as I made quota ($2,000 per week) comfortably. Now it's time to make new plans because this job gets grubbier every year. I used to be one of many giving medium contact. Now, I look like a nun!!! Not cool.

Get your rest, stay on your game and make plans for next year.

see i totally agree with this. i have been dancing longer than most of you i do see this business in a downward spiral

with all due respect emily you have found a niche. most girls ARE NOT making money in a clean way anymore.
i still do well but even last year it was way better.

take florida. our season runs from nov-april. we had almost no winter increase in business and in our high season we had almost no increase in business either.
it's not just me. in fact i do better than most with what is available thru regulars and mega hustling skills.

IT IS the economy. loss if intrest in strip clubs and more and more clubs allowing out and out prostitution to compete. i've been saying for some time that this business has almost run it's course

I did not complain about the industry. I said it was getting over saturated. I was not complaining. sorry I brought politics in to it. maybe that wasn't the greatest decision. sometimes it is hard for me not to since my day job is with the DNC. so if that was inappropriate, I do apologize.

If you gals want to know where all your customer's discretionary income is going, go down to the nearest filling station and peer up at the price sign. Gas prices around here are nearing post-Katrina levels around here again and I'm sure they're possibly worse where you live.

I'm thinking that too, although I did wait until about two weeks ago to file mine because I had to earn some money to sock into an IRA, in order to get enough of a deduction to get a decent refund, and the money I am getting back is going to pay for my car insurance.

^^^Then that's the final nail in the coffin for me...it's the economy!

One other thing. Part of the reason people don't post on a thread like this is that in this business people are thrilled to crow about what they make when it's a good night. They're not so quick to crow "I made shit tonight!" Who wants to be dogpiled on by the club bitches?

Most dancers pretend they are independently wealthy with a few houses and investments and a luxury car or two and travel the world five times a year. Most of the women I see dancing act like they're born with a silver spoon in their mouths and they're not. They're not even grateful for what they make. They make $500 and say "is that ALL!" When they don't do well they go about their business silently.....until the next good night.

man, there are some smart cookies around here. I know I'm new here, but I have been dancing now for 14 years. I am still lucky enough to be thin and look like I am in my early 20's, and for that I am extremly grateful. the money was soooooo much betterjust five years ago. there are more and more dancers in my club doing extras. in fact there's more and more dancers doing extras in most clubs around here (l.a.) from what I have seen as of late. while this doesn't really bother me, It bothers me that sometimes customers think I will too; and then it makes it a little more difficult for me to make money. As it is, I currently have a straight laced day job, because I know that stripping does not last forever(although I sometimes wish it did, I really love the stage) and I don't want to be washed up with no skills/real work history when I can't dance anymore.

yea by the grace of god i look 10 years younger too optimist. so it isnt that i'm washed up by any means. i can out sell almost any younger girl. the numbers do drop every year.

a few years back i had found a niche club too. i still work there, but guess what it isnt near as good as a year or two or three ago.

i work in a smaller club locally too. the contact that is allowed here just in the last year is UNHEARD OF. in this town.

hum, so... nice can of worms there. I should say that I shouldn't complain-- I had a really great week last week, but early this week was rather lame, so I was trying to figure out if it was me or the fact that it's tax week. So-- I KNOW that there's money to be made and I am thankful for that...but the original question still remains: though the money is declining, if there IS a tax slump when does THAT tend to end? Next week? End of April? Early May?
Just curious. Although...now I'm obviously worried since I wanted to do this into my thirties, so I hope that whether the economy, the prez, or aliens are involved, things will get fixed soon enough. I mean...I don't need a grand a night, but $400-500 for a five hour shift doesn't seem too unreasonable if I'm continually out there hustling (and yes, I do want to do the DW course, but I keep putting it off since I swing between parties and clubs.)

The answer is...there is no tax slump. The next election's over two years from now. At this rate we'll be paying four bucks per gallon by then. We'll be more dependent on regulars than ever, we'll be making less money for more mileage or we'll be doing another job.

Velvet is right on the money. More and more guys have lost interest in strip clubs and in buying dances.

But there are a lot of variables in making money in this business. Given the fact that most clubs have experienced a slowdown, and a transition in the type of customer they attract, money can vary from place to place.

Emily is doing well at her club partially I'm sure because of the selling skills she has acquired, PLUS she treats dancing like a regular 8-5 job. She works at it full time and is there when the money walks in. Also she is at a new hyped up club that the novelty hasn't worn off of yet. Many dancers are just looking for fast money, and that does not exist.
I work full time at this business most of the time 7-9 hours shifts, and the slow days are mixed in with the good ones. If more dancers worked as much as Emily and I do, their money would balance out. Plus, they would get known in the club and develop some of their cash flow from a regular batch of customers.

It's more about being a big fish in a small pond as a dancer nowadays. Becoming popular in a club, and developing a trail of admiring customers who will buy dances from you and tip you well on stage (if you're in that type of club) is essential if a dancer wants to MAKE A LIVING AND ACQUIRE SAVINGS as a dancer.

Other than that, it will be hit and miss money. Unless a dancer is a student, going to work 2-3 days a week and EXPECTING to make $300+ a night AIN'T HAPPENIN'. And even a student needs to rigorously stick to 3 days a week (4 if possible), and let her admirers know when she is working.

^^^^^So true. I worked five days this week and it was wildly up and down. It could have sucked but working the WHOLE week made a big difference. I don't want to be a killjoy. I just know it gives peace of mind to know why it's slow and it's not necessarily you. You can relax and do a better job with restored confidence.

I still hope you'll prepare for the next chapter in case this business doesn't treat you right in the next few years. If you live in or near a big city or tourist city you have plenty of options. Bartenders in NY and Miami make $300 and up. Keep your eye on the money!
